It was great to wake up early, make some breakfast, and watch AVB make sad faces

Dortmund. As a very casual soccer fan I don't know any of their players. But holy shit they look good.

I alway like seeing the underdogs battle the big boys. Beating Real was a huge win. Currently, Dortmund is 4th in the Bundesliga, 12 points behind Bayern Munich. They are definitely making their CL matches count.

meanwhile, Bayern look amazing in league but shit in the CL.

Funny how that works out sometimes. Was just the opposite with them a few years ago.

Re: The Official Soccer, Football, Futbol, and Footie Thread
at this point, I wouldn't be surprised if Bate and Valencia made it out of the group at their expense. Valencia is doing the mirror trick as well, struggling in La Liga (and possibly missing on their CL spot for next season) and doing great in the CL outside of their narrow defeat to Bayern in the opening match.

Keep in mind they've lost a lot of their homegrown talent to the big boys (for arguably too little), but having a reliable youth system has kept them competitive. Marco Reus looks like a good investment too, albeit an expensive one.

Re: The Official Soccer, Football, Futbol, and Footie Thread
WTF Arsenal - that was the craziest game I've ever seen.

Re: The Official Soccer, Football, Futbol, and Footie Thread
Man U made that comeback look easy against Aston Villa today. It's almost like they toy with their opponents. As a novice soccer fan it's tough to cheer for them because they remind me too much of the Yankees. But they are fun to watch. When they use Chicharito as a sub that's an embarrassment of riches

Re: The Official Soccer, Football, Futbol, and Footie Thread
Not a lot for us Arsenal fans to cheer about lately, but hopefully this win against the Spuds will help drive us on to some better results like last season's 5-2 win did.

Re: The Official Soccer, Football, Futbol, and Footie Thread
This thread has been too quiet...
So, Ba is off to Chelsea. Sucks to see your best player go, but that is the way things are in the PL. Every team feeds to the top 4 it seems. Good riddance. He will be booed ceremoniously by the St. James faithful upon his return. Enjoy riding the pine at Chelsea.
Debuchy finally into the fold of the patchwork back 4. Hopefully that helps. My team has been easier to score on the K$sha lately.
Any other good rumors out there?

At least you have been scoring. Good game last night. Also, wasn't surprised that QPR beat Chelsea. They were dreadful against us on Sunday (even though we lost). So boring to watch.

Yeah, it was a good game. Some solid end to end action. That Baines goal was incredible. One of the best free kicks you will ever see. Santon had the equalizer on his boot if would have only passed it across the goal to Cisse'. Instead, he took an impossibly angled shot. That's why he is a defender.
QPR has been playing much better of late. Chelsea does need the help, so i can understand why they went after Ba. At 7.5 mil he is a bargain.

Officially saying Lampard will depart in the summer, possibly to play in Italy

Re: The Official Soccer, Football, Futbol, and Footie Thread
So what do you all think about Boateng's reaction to being racially abused? Personally I think he did the right thing by walking off the pitch and I'm glad his teammates supported him as well by doing the same - all these "Kick Out Racism" programs and tiny fines for racist chants aren't really doing much to solve the problem.

This is so damn good.
At the end of the video, you can cliuck on it for the translations. That's funny in it's own right

Re: The Official Soccer, Football, Futbol, and Footie Thread
thanks for the Boateng clip. he shouldn't be the one having to abandon the game, should be enforced by match officials during games

Re: The Official Soccer, Football, Futbol, and Footie Thread
Just when it couldn't get any worse for my beloved Newcastle...
...it does
This would be absolutely crushing.

Re: The Official Soccer, Football, Futbol, and Footie Thread
Looks like Bayern Munich landed Pep as their head coach starting next season.

Re: The Official Soccer, Football, Futbol, and Footie Thread
This Champions League match between Celtic and Juventus has been intense. Celtic dominated possession, but they totally bungled poorly defended a deep ball in their own end and Juve made them pay. But thus far Celtic looks the best, and I'm not sure how long Juve can hold them off. Its halftime.
PSG looks dominant in their match. They're the real deal

Re: The Official Soccer, Football, Futbol, and Footie Thread
Gus Johnson is doing the call for the Man U-Madrid match tomorrow. 86 minutes of silence, 4 minutes of freak out!

Re: The Official Soccer, Football, Futbol, and Footie Thread
Gus Johnson is calling the Man U-Madrid game today, but Shakthar vs Borussia Dortmund might be the better match today.

Re: The Official Soccer, Football, Futbol, and Footie Thread
Overall, pretty exciting match between Real and Man U. 2nd leg will be a pleasure to watch, I am sure.
My Newcastle lads in Europa action today. Have to work, so recording it.

The first half was a lot more exciting than the 2nd half.

Re: The Official Soccer, Football, Futbol, and Footie Thread
Of all the four games this week I thought Shakhtar v Dortmund was the most exciting - it was very open, there were some great goals, and Hummels managed to grab the equalizer in the final minutes to set up a really interesting second leg.
Also, as a Gunner this part of the Real v United game made me exceedingly happy:

Ronaldo vs. Man U was the most entertaining game I've watched in quite a while. Can't wait for the match at Old Trafford.

Agreed. Hence why I think the 2nd leg will be all out.

Re: The Official Soccer, Football, Futbol, and Footie Thread
Finally just watched Man U vs Real. Overall good match. I don't think I've ever seen a ref blow the final whistle without even giving the team a chance to take the corner. I'm sure it happens more often but I just don't watch as much as I would like to.
