Well if your team is in the Western Conference then you have a statistically higher change of making the playoffs over a team in the Eastern conference. So there's that.
As a Sharks fan, I like Detroit being in the Eastern conference, if anything so that if we are to play them in the playoffs, it'd appropriately be in the Stanley Cup Final, rather than in an earlier round in the playoffs. There has been some fantastic hockey between the Sharks and the Red Wings in the playoffs.
