While rumors on Led Zeppelin's extended reunion is running up and down since their one-off performance at London's O2 last month, it only comes close enough when an insider revealed that Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters will sit in as the band's touring drummer.
The source told Daily Star, "He was in the running to take over from John Bonham a few years ago and he's still gagging to get on stage with the Zep. While he loves playing with Foo Fighters, Dave would drop anything to be part of Zep's shows."
Grohl was the former drummer of Nirvana who stepped up as the frontman of Foo Fighters in 1995 post Kurt Cobain's death. Should the rumor be true, then he will replace the position of Jason Bonham, son of Zep's original drummer John Bonham who died of asphyxiation in 1980.
A new hint on Zep's other show erupted earlier this week when another source told Daily Mirror on their involvement at 2008 Bonaroo Festival. "They are going to play the Bonnaroo festival, which runs from June 12 to 15," the source quoted as saying. "This news will drive their fans absolutely wild. They have been bombarding their website to get back together for good but only lead singer Robert Plant wasn't keen to commit."
The source went on saying on the possibility of a longer plan, namely a tour. "Now he's had a change of heart and if it all goes well they are also talking about touring."

Yeah someone was talking about this in the rumors section. I don't know how I feel about all of this Led Zeppelin news.

Re: Dave Grohl To Drum For Zeppelin?
if they did tour, why wouldn't Jason keep playing?

It's hard to get excited when all they have been talking about is they don't want to play.

Re: Dave Grohl To Drum For Zeppelin?
lies. they would never drop jason for dave. as much as i love dave. id rather see jason there anyway
-
Re: Dave Grohl To Drum For Zeppelin?
I read an article earlier where Jason was interviewed. He said if they do go on tour/do any more shows, he is not sure if he will participate.
Seeing Dave Grohl drum for Zeppelin would be amazing. I remember hearing rumours about this like.... 5-6 years ago.

Yeah I mentioned this a while ago. And like you said a while ago Dave said he would like to drum for them if given the chance that they got back together and whatnot. The man has 4 Zeppelin tattoos, so ya know.

Re: Dave Grohl To Drum For Zeppelin?
I"d like to see Dave drum again but how would you be able to see that shit...and why wouldn't bonham participate???
-
Re: Dave Grohl To Drum For Zeppelin?
A) I don't think they would "drop" Jason for Dave. Jason might not be able to do it, so Dave would fill the roll (BA DOOM CHING!)
B) If you were Dave Grohl and had that opportunity to do it, you'd probably do it for free.

Chris, how the fuck do you know this shit?

Re: Dave Grohl To Drum For Zeppelin?
It's hard to believe Bonham would choose Foreigner over Zeppelin.

he is probably doing fine money-wise. also, not everyone would want to tour the world for a couple years, it's not as fun as it may appear.

Re: Dave Grohl To Drum For Zeppelin?
I would imagine the pressure to live up to your father in that setting would be pretty taxing as well.
-
Re: Dave Grohl To Drum For Zeppelin?
i dont think anyone expects him to be john....
that one post made it sound liek he has prior commitments to foreigner? but again i agree im sure he would choose zep.

I don't know. If you had the chance to drum on Stairway or Hot Blooded, wouldn't everyone choose Hot Blooded? Plus there is a lot of money to be made playing Indian Casinos.
Oh, and pressure doesn't necessarily have to come from outside sources. He could put that shit entirely on himself.
-
Re: Dave Grohl To Drum For Zeppelin?
true enough. i dunno. it still seems odd he wouldnt choose zep. but gorhl would probably be first in line if he didnt. i mean john paul jones did play on one of the foo albums

Re: Dave Grohl To Drum For Zeppelin?
When I saw the Foos in 05, Dave Grohl played drums for a song.
He looked so deleriously happy playing the drums. I could not even imagine his excitement if he got to play for Zeppelin.

Re: Dave Grohl To Drum For Zeppelin?
Drumming is a lot of fun, I miss it. Good Times Bad Times was one of the first songs I learned to play on set, back when I was... 14? I think 14. Imitating Bonham was a good time even though I'm not that big of a Zep fan.

It was. I was half expecting them too go straight into a Nirvana cover right after too. Obviously, they didn't.
Me too! They came to Van with him on drums when I was... I musta been 14 or 15, and I didn't go. The Distillers were opening up too. That is probably my second biggest regret of a missed show.

Um, I could have written that exact post. My band actually covered "Good Times Bad Times" I used to play all of the time and loved it. Haven't played in like 8 years.

Wow, creepy. I'm at pretty much exactly eight years too I think. Yeah, I stopped when I was sixteen because I wanted to devote all my time to drugs. Fucking miss it, man. Still can't stop drumming on my knees AT ALL.

That just made me laugh out loud. I stopped when I was 24. God I am old. I play on my knees and steering wheel all of the time. I can tell I annoy people on the train but fuck em. They just don't get it. Anyone from Chicago want to start a supergroup? I need to play again

Re: Dave Grohl To Drum For Zeppelin?
The thing that bugs me the most is that when I stopped playing I'd been on this kick of nothing but polyrhythms for like a year straight. So now I permanently have this tendency built into me to play in fucking weird ass time signatures even when I'm just drumming along to a song. Every once in a while I notice people looking at me like, "what the fuck does he think he's playing?" And I just want to say, "look, it matches, you just have to transpose it, fucker."

Re: Dave Grohl To Drum For Zeppelin?
One of those most epic rock bands of all time collaborating with one of the most annoying radio rock bands of all time. Brilliant.

hey man. they got solid roots

Re: Dave Grohl To Drum For Zeppelin?
One of the most annoying radio rock bands? Are you referring to Foo Fighters, 'cause I don't think that Dave Grohl drumming in any way qualifies as a collaboration with Foo Fighters. And if you're talking about Nirvana which would be the more apt analogy, well, fuck yourself.

I always wonder if people know the song I am listening to by the drum beat I am playing.
