The teddy bear named Mohammed
Okay I'm sure you guys must have heard about this in the news: a British woman was in Sudan working as a teacher and she asked the little kids in her class to come up with a name for a teddybear which they would all share amongst themselves, to learn about responsibility, etc. One kid named Mohammed suggested that they name the bear after him, and the rest of the class voted in agreement, so they named it Mohammed. The teacher was initially cautious, as this also happens to be the name of the Islamic prophet, but she checked with parents, and figured it was just a bear, and went ahead and named it Mohammed.
She has now been jailed for 14 days, and thousands of Sudanese people are marching on the streets, demanding that she be given the death penalty.
I don't think I have ever heard anything quite so ridiculous in my life. Do you think the same would happen if a Sudanese teacher came to the UK And named a teddybear "Jesus"? I really hope not...

Re: The teddy bear named Mohammed
You are inciting a religious argument\free discussion just by talking about naming a Teddy Bear as the prophet......thats 200 lashes.

I think she deserved to do a "Little bit of time" inside for being bloody stupid enough to go there in the first place and 14 days seems fair.

14 days is one thing. the death sentence is quite another.

Re: The teddy bear named Mohammed
You seriously think someone deserves 14 DAYS IN PRISON for a bad decision in letting some kids name a teddybear???

They have stopped well short of that and deport her after 14 days, she should be happy. You are of course correct, could have been worse, she could have had her head chopped off.

I think too that she should have been aware of this type of issue before she moved there amoungst the extremists, but she did check with everyone involved with The Bear first.
It's bloody ridiculous, though, and no, this wouldn't have happened in America or the UK, unless it looked like this:

I don't understand why kids aren't allowed to call a toy Muhammed or draw a picture of it/him/her, or put it into any kind of form, yet it's ok to call your kids Muhammed. Crazy.

Not really. But theirs is not a democracy. In this case I will ask you "Do you think 14 days in prison is preferable to a Beheading\Lashing\Both, and would you not happily take that 14 DAYS IN PRISON given that their country and culture is filled with murdering psycopaths?"

Really, Oh fuck! make way for Einstein!
Gotta go.

Re: The teddy bear named Mohammed
Pardon my daftness - what is it exactly that they are offended by? Obviously they are OK with naming people Muhammed, why is that any less insulting than a teddy bear? Most teddy bears are cuter than people anyway. And if I were religious, I'd want my God to be cute and cuddly.

In America? No.
In Sudan? Well I am not familiar with their customs and such, but it seems like it is not the best idea to be naming stuffed animals after the prophet. It is ridiculous yes. But I'm not going to argue how another country should be ran.
On the other hand, the parents did OK the idea though, so there really should not be a problem. if the teacher is being held responsible, then so should those parents.

Re: The teddy bear named Mohammed
Also, if the parents and the child agreed to this, why don't they kill them? They have no excuse...they're muslim...they should have known! KILL THE KID AND THE PARENTS!!!! KILL THEM!!!

Because the teacher is the one who allowed it to happen.
...but surely the all-powerful prophet Mohammed is the one who allowed the teacher to allow it to happen, ultimately!?
KILL MOHAMMED!!!
