So Many Wizards are always fun.
So Many Wizards are always fun.
I don’t know if it was the giant ball of hash I ate beforehand, but the show felt very much the religious experience. Tight yet loose musicianship, adoring crowd, and a full setlist. I mean, how was the intro to ‘Its Your Body 1’ in and of itself? My God. So glad I came out for this.
And I kind of get the Ariel Pink comparisons, on a track like ‘Do I make you feel shy?’, but they both have their own styles and songwriting. How about Connan coming out alone before the show started addressing everyone with gratitude and purpose? Who does that? He’s a gentleman, Ariel is more of a rogue. Speaking of which, was that the Ariel Pink bassist standing out front before the show btw? Almost asked him, but didn’t want to be wrong and wanky. “Just cus I have long hair and asian”. Pretty sure it was him though, but what was he just standing there for? Throwing down a hex?
Saw The Darkside in Chicago last night.
They were awesome. Crowd was the worst. So rude and disrespectful to the band.
I'll never complain about an NYC crowd again.
I'm catching The Faint and Danny Brown tonight. Pretty stoked.
erm, no. Was referring to Liphemra (another female led band). Just assumed, my bad.
Wow Mary J Blige came out for F for You during Disclosure's set tonight:) That was something else!
The Faint were excellent last night. They played quite a few songs that they stated were off their new, forthcoming album. More punky and fast, they were good and kept the crowd going. It was fun seeing them in a venue after all these years and I loved the set.
Danny Brown was good, but man, fuck night clubs. He had so many stupid people dancing into each other that it was hard to stand after awhile. I still dug it and he's a great performer.
Parquet Courts fucking nailed it tonight. The new songs from the EP sound so great live. Especially Descend and The More It Works!!! They also played some even newer songs that were awesome, some bluesy sounding and a super intense straight up hardcore punk song called Sunbathing. I talked to Andrew before and after the set and he said it will be on their new LP that comes out in May! So keep an ear out and see these dudes whenever you get the chance.
My only complaint is they didn't play Stoned And Starving. Pretty lame when a band is seemingly too cool to play their biggest hit.
The opening band Destruction Unit (they're signed to Sacred Bones) also killed it. It was so horrible though, the fucking owner or whatever made them cut off their set early and was covering his ears the whole time, just standing right in front of the stage. Who the fuck does that??
TOY was absolutely outstanding tonight. I swear, best new band to come out of the past year or two. So glad they finally came stateside, as I don't think they made it over here at all to support their debut record in 2012. The drummer is an absolute beast, and the extended jammy krauty tunes were just insanely good, I can see Dead & Gone being way up there with the best songs I saw live all year when all is said and done:
If there is any justice in this world, this band will get the recognition they deserve in the very near future.

Yes this gives me some hope for a Bryan Ferry show up in San Francisco area.
Destruction Unit opened for The Men when bmack and I saw them at The Smell a few years ago, and they were the most blisteringly loud band I've ever seen before. Literally sounded like an airplane taking off. They had my attention from that point on.
Yeah they were insanely loud... Probably not as loud as they usually are but I definitely couldn't hear for shit a good thirty minutes after the show. Another lady told them "you guys are the worst band ever!!" Haha how can you say that? Those guys are super nice too!
Phantogram @ the Palladium Feb 22nd. Gonna be sick .. heres a sneak peak
So my friend's at Sundance right now and apparently Nick Cave did a surprise performance in the middle of the crowd in honor of the new documentary on him that's showing there. She fucking walks outside afterwards, hears "can I join you?", turns around and it's Nick. So they share a smoke and talk for 20 minutes. Haha sorry I just think that's the most amazing story ever and I'm extremely jealous.
It's Sundance, stuff like that happens every year.
Fuck off Chris.
