Nothing! I'm staying in a hotel next year. I hope I never see another porto-potty again. Yuck! If they went to all the trouble to include those bathroom trailers inside the festival, why didn't they have them in the camping area? That didn't make sense to me.

What an experience, though. There's nothing quite like that first morning visit to the porto. The minute you open the door the shit-sauna aroma smacks you in the face.

A canopy and maybe an air mattress.... But I don't know, I hate carrying shit so maybe I'll forget the canopy and the air mattress and just camp near someone with a canopy like I did this year.

I'll be driving down next year, that's for sure.
And I will be bringing a shade tent, chairs, my speakers for my iPod, lots of chips and snacks, a book for people to sign etc....saw a lot of that and I thought it was a great idea. Also, a cooler sleeping bag, mine was way to warm.

Man, I agree. I don't even like having stuff in my pockets at Coachella, and I've never done the camping there. My personal attitude is, get in, enjoy the show, do everything else off site. Who knows though, maybe I'll mix it up some year.

Wish I could have met this guy, all we had was lots of pot, beer, vodka, rockstars and water. Perfect setup you'd think, but I would have killed for some food, an air mattress, pillow, a boombox, and a tiny broom to sweep out our tent. Didn't realize Lake Cahuilla was so developed. Next year though. Next Year.

I think I'd get a tent without sides on it. Just a roof. You're not sleeping once the sun comes up anyway due to the heat, so just give yourself as much shade during the day as you can and let any breeze there is blow right through. Maybe a small pup tent to put your bags in

When did you purchase it? Did you wrap it up or leave it loose? Was it on the top of your cooler, or the bottom (possibly touching water)?

I'm curious about this dry ice possibility, but I need more information.

the dust would get all over and in everything, though. better off being able to seal up the tent during the day/night and keep that shit out as much as possible. and isn't a tent with no sides just a tarp?

I described it poorly. I'm thinking of something like a transportable gazebo. Most of them have screen sides that you can roll right up.

I'm going to definitely bring a canopy next year. We thought about it and ended up deciding against it for the sake of space. We were gone for two weeks with 4 people in a car though so we had to pack light. Next time I'll be sure to make time to use the laundry facilities in the hotels I stay in on the way back.

Dry ice is a great idea.
I camped next to some people at Bonnaroo that had a cooler with dry ice that they accidentally locked in there car. On the last day they had a locksmith come out and open thier vehicle. They gave us a giant zip lock bag of chili that was still completely frozen! My friend put the bag of chili under a blanket and took a nap on it to keep her cool that afternoon.
So we started thinking about how we could use dry ice and a fan to keep cool in the tent. Might be slightly dangerous, but possibly worth it!
If anybody has any ideas on this let me know

Next year, I'm leaving my tent home and just bringing a child's blow-up pool to chill in. And I'm not gonna wait until the second day to carry a wet towel around to keep over my head and shoulders. Once it dawned on me that I could carry a towel around and just keep wetting it in the tubs of ice at the water stands, I was cool for the rest of the weekend.

amyzzz

Honestly, I could have a blast no matter what but I think its essential to have a camera, chapstick, money good shoes. Although I did wear flip flops my first year and it went fine. Ive heard about dissapearing flip flops but I made my way to the stage a few times completely intact. Studly ;)

word of caution...we brought a canopy last year and it was great for the first day it was set up, but on saturday night the winds tore that thing to shit. we had to be resourceful and put two tents next to each other and hang the flies between them. also, make sure you bring sheets or something for the sides of the canopy, otherwise its pretty much useless. anyway, next year I'm bringing a better canopy and more weed (or just not sharing as much).

I did the wet towel thing on Saturday this year. It made waiting in that insanely long line somewhat bearable.

I won't be bringing a space blanket again. It's far too noisy to wear as a cloak and too much a pain in the ass to put on my tent. Unless I bring duct tape. Ah yes, that stuff fixes everything.

Camped last year and definitely will be bringing a canopy and tarps to block the sun. It was the only miserable thing about camping - the hot temperatures by 10am so you couldn't even rest inside the tent. The tent fans didn't touch the hotness. Also, a cooler with wheels. We arrived after the camping parking was closed and had to schlep our stuff for what seemed like miles. It was HELL and almost ruined the experience. This was the first lesson in "to have fun at Coachella, break the rules". The 'camping' parking lot wasn't separate from the regular parking, it was just one big field and the campers got to park closer. We could've drive then car close to the entrance, dropped our shit, then drove back to a parking spot. It would've saved us so much aggravation and energy.

oh well, live and learn and BREAK THE RULES. heh.
