All That I Am

Smashing Pumpkins will also headline in 2007. Actually, they're going to be Coachella's resident headlining act from now until the end of time. Billy Corgan's shiny head has effectively hypnotized and taken control of everyone at Goldenvoice.

Widespread Panic. All three nights. Two sets each night.

DJ Peretz will be replaced by DJ Rosie O'Donnell.

Pabst Blue Ribbon will replace Heineken.

Apple will sponsor an internet tent, so everyone can obsessively check whatever site replaces myspace instead of watching Blind Melon, and said site is credited for creating Web 5.0.

No big shockers for the 2008 line-up. The big surprise will be that GV adds a two-day Polka Festival the week after Stagecoach. My guess is that Bonnaroo will compete with this by adding a Jazz Lite festival the week after Bonnaroo featuring two days of solid Kenny G.

Anything has to be better than DJ Peretz. Note to DJ P, just stand near the console and put your arms in the air during the mixes. Let the real DJs do the work.

also, nirvana are reforming, their first gig being coachella 2008. sources vary as to whether cobain will front the group, or if dave grohl's close personal friend tom jones will take the position of lead singer. grohl has been quoted to have said that he is "psyched" for the reappearance of the oft-cited-as-influential grunge act.

Green Day and Pearl Jam are very likely possibilities to headline 2008

Woh... where did this come from? This is the guy who said Daft Punk would be going on tour, and was very, very correct. And we all thank him for that.
But Green Day and Pearl Jam? I have seen Green Day a couple times, and even though American Idiot was overplayed and blah, blah, blah, they still put on a great live show! They also still play lotsa of old material and are very energetic and fun. I havent seen Pearl Jam, but they are on my to see list. However, after Rage... Green Day and Pearl Jam? Those are two huge acts, I must admit. However, it seems kind of... anti-climactic. Nothing against them. Unless they 3rd day headliner is David Bowie or Radiohead, they better have some pretty strong supporting acts.
Unless... Coachella are gonna save money next year by not spending huge amounts of money on Coachella 2008, and are saving all the money for 2009, the 10th aniversary.

suprefan
05-09-2007, 12:51 AM

Good point. I never thought about that. The reason I believed it was because both Green Day and Pearl Jam have new albums out next year. And both, especially Green Day, would be a huge draw. However, I was skeptical because A)Pearl Jam are at Lolla this year and B)Green Day is a very, very un-Coachella-esque band. But they still possible, but at this point... anything is.

I know they have played ANY shows in support of their new album, and since Mike Patton is working with Fantomas right now, I am not sure if he plans to. However, if someone can get Tomahawk to play, its GV. And if Mikey doesnt wanna bring Tomahawk to Coachella, Fantomas would be fine as well.

Goddamn it, why does Chumbawamba still get used in the old "insert joke band here" gag?

They've done, like, 20 albums in 25 years. They've got more "indie cred" in the UK than everyone in the Gobi combined. They've worked with frickin' Negativeland. But because most Americans don't know that, somehow that makes THEM the joke.

I'm not that big a fan (though they do have one album I love- WYHIWHG). I just hate hack jokes rooted in ignorance.

EDIT I expected more from someone with a Bill Hicks reference in their profile. :)

Hahahah.

Well, I heard that Goldenvoice already signed Led Zeppelin and were gunning for either Justin Timberlake or Guns N' Roses but couldn't afford both. The deal with GNR couldn't be finalized by the end of November so they were gonna go with JT but then GNR suddenly was back on the table so GV was still debating whether to go with JT still. Axl is demanding more secrecy than the line-up usually has, hence why we haven't heard anything definitive yet. But y'all need to keep this on the DL and you didn't hear it from me, capiche?

Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks Tour for Trash
As we mark off the days until Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks sully our earholes with their Real Emotional Trash, we're happy to have another scrap of Malky news to tide us over. Filthmongers and germaphobes alike will be able to pick up and file through their Trash March 4 thanks to Matador, and Malkmus and company will take their rubbish on the road in late March and early April. And, unlike those dudes in the big trucks who wake you up every morning, this trashy bunch make a racket you'll be pleased to hear.

This current spate of Malkmus dates is awfully generous to the eastern half of the country, but more Jicks live garbage is promised in April.

Dates:

03-19 Minneapolis, MN - First Avenue
03-20 Milwaukee, WI - Pabst Theater
03-21 Chicago, IL - Vic Theatre
03-22 Indianapolis, IN - Vogue Theater
03-23 Newport, KY - Southgate House

I predicted Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks in the Festival Pool. And just curious, but why would there be no Izzy Straddlin? Is he the one who was on one of those seasons of the Surreal Life or was that some guitarist from another '80s band?

M83 Reveals Full Album Details

Now that he's gotten his ambient kicks with this past fall's Digital Shades Vol. 1, Anthony Gonzalez is ready to release his fifth album as M83, titled Saturdays = Youth. The album is apparently focused on more structured songs than the Digital Shades material, though "Couleurs", available for streaming now, doesn't seem too reliant on traditional pop song structure.

As previously reported, Gonzalez recorded Saturdays with producers Ken Thomas (Sigur Rós, Suede, Cocteau Twins, the Sugarcubes) and Ewan Pearson (the Rapture, Ladytron). Mute will release the album on April 15.

"Graveyard Girl" will be the album's first single.

Oh wow, now there are tour dates. Someone in the know said a couple weeks ago that Hot Chip would play again, and I consider this even more proof. Unfortunately, I was told not to hold my breath for The Chemical Brothers, so we'll see :(

It's great electronic music, but more ambient and not dancey. I hear some shoegaze influence in it. Great music. I'd rank the albums as follows:
1. M83
2. Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts
3. Before the Dawn Heals Us
4. Digital Shades Volume 1

M83 isn't a him either. It's a band. They do have some electronic but last I checked they have a killer guitar player and drummer. Unless someone died or something or maybe I was really stoned. I dunno. I swear I remember guitar and drums though. They were stellar in 2005. A definite highlite of mine.

Because the source behind my Hot Chip "scoop" said not to hold my breath for that one, but seemed somewhat unsure. Oh, VHS or Beta is also a go, but we already knew that.

Ah! I knew I saw his name somewhere! I will have to check my old 2005 settimes to see who I was watching at the time...

Well, M83 was originally two guys, but they split sometime before Coachella 05, and now it's just one of them touring with various musicians as needed.

I would wager that Man Man is there as well this year. Their schedule lines up perfectly for a West Coast leg of the tour in April leading up to Coachella. I caught them opening for Modest Mouse back in May and they were fantastic, nearly stole the show. Their studio albums don't do them justice, they must be seen live.

It actually is a him. It used to be a duo, but it is only one person. He might have a band that tours behind him, but M83 is one person in studio. Edit: What Boourns said.

And I would not call M83 ambient in any sense. Even their "ambient" album (Digital Shades) had power to it. But yeah, not very dancy either. Definitely give them a listen TeamCoachella. I'd actually recommend starting with Dead Cities... If you want a good intro song to hear what M83 sounds like (if you are too lazy to give a full album a shot), start with "Run Into Flowers".

The Cure is playing Sasquatch this year, I bet they will be at the fields.

GV needs to bring Massive Attack back.. or bring Tricky.

I would die if Tribe Called Quest played.
