View Full Version : Rage was a disappointment

We went to Coachella just for Rage. It was our first time seeing Rage. This was just my 4th concert ever. So we took off around 5 and got there at 7. We caught the last 3 bands on the main stage. Rage, well, I wasn't really feeling it. Honestly, Manu Chao was better and I never heard of them. Family Values at Hyundai was better. The System of a down show at long beach was better. Last year, with Tool headlining, now that was 10x better. I'm not even a big Tool fan but I mean Tool vs Rage, no contest. Of course, all imo.

I agree with pet4h. They just didn't bring it. The sound was shitty. I couldn't hear the bass or drums. It's the low end that brings the energy and all I could hear was Zack and Tom. Love 'em both, but I wanna hear the whole band not just the two egos that crown themselves as da kings.

It was the sound, which FYI, sucked at main stage all three days.

It wasn't as bad the two previous nights. I guess it's easier to accept Bjork and Tiesto at a lower volume than Rage.

Rage fucking rocked! Best show of the weekend and you are just a negative nancy or have just plain bad taste if you are honestly comparing rage to a family values show.
Zach rocked it, the voulme could have been better (as mentioned earlier the sound on the main stage pretty much sucked all weekend) but the rest of the band was plenty audible. RAGE FUCKING DESTROYED IT!

Yes the sound was shitty all weekend there. I figured they would at least invest in professioals to run the boards all weekend. They completley murdered Sonic Youth's sound. Fucking Assholes. RHCP sound was the shittiest by far. THey murdered they're set too. I thought Rage's sound was decent though. I could'nt believe how loud it was for J&MC.

I've never seen Rage live, and I loved it.

Adam2uBer - He talked about the problem (which he identified as a system in which countries have to survive in order to start wars with other countries and profit off their demise) not being something to be solved by fighting against an administration, but that it went much deeper and was something we continually have to fight through each generation.

The best part was, he smiled right before he launched into the speech. A great moment.

first rage performance--thought i was i never gonna see one of my fav bands. and i was plleeeeased. the crowd totally FUCKED ME UP. i was next to a rail so i was able to tell security to get me the fuck out... i thought i could take it but damn no way-- i was dehydrated and starving for the longest time cause of waiting past roots, willie, crowded house (sucked!)and manu chiao at the same place. anyways, security routed me out after the first 3 songs towards the exit which was on the way to the direct FRONT OF THE STAGE, so i got to see ratm right in front for a few seconds!! my god it was tight.

i had to enjoy it from the back left, but it was tight none the less

i wish there was an encore. i thought there was gonna be a che gueverra flag roll down in place of manu ciao's--or some other decoration other than the star on the bass drum. they ended almost exactly at 12am, as if they had to stick to the schedule. zack's hair is cool. his voice is the same.

met some really down to earth people, including some cool japanese people--talked to them in japanese i learned from college. but who gives a shit..

EVERYTHING WAS TIGHT. SOME OF THOSE THAT BURN CROSSES, ARE THE SAME THAT HOLD OFFICE.

fdsafdsafdsa!!

why the fuck do you guys like willie nelson? i could understand his son (rocked onthe guitar) but willie nelson?

saw some guy who looked exactly like him after the rage performace when walking toward the coachella exit. "willeeeeee!"

after the concert i cleaned my nose--full of coachella dust. exit after parking was a bitch. i wish i brought food and water.

Who ever said Rage sucked is blind, dumb, and deaf. I've seen bands live from A to Z. I've been to coachella for the last four years. Where were you standing, at the Gobi Tent? Considering the acoustics of an outdoor stage, they rocked it. Next time try to stand closer to a speaker or the sound booth. And coachella's sound does not suck. For an outdoor festival it's one of the best there is.

I was left center, started about 20 rows back. By the end, I was 5th row back and about 5 rows away from the center barricade. I was about 15 rows back for the majority of the show. I wasn't feeling it otherwise I would have been closer as I'm 6 feet, 210. where were you? This was my 2nd Coachella and last year wins easily.

think man for a second if you have 60,000+ angry fans that are fed up with this regime, then you add "RAGE" he says a few words that we all know and feel allready he gets all pumped and ready to go nuts... then you have a riot...so think next time...

Is that a big surprise?
The past 2 years Toillet has been putting angry unimportant headliners on the bill. First it was Tool, then RATM. It gave me and my friends a head start on traffic. That's always good. It seemed like they had a lot of fans although I wouldn't call them "Coachella Purists".

The main coachella stage sound sucked all three days. Rage sounded flat. You could tell they went up there and did what they had to do, not cause they wanted to. Diehard Rage fans of course didnt hear the bad sound (which was a sound fading in and out) or see what non rage fans see cause well, their fans regardless. And thats understandable. If you put me infront of my favorite band and they played crappy, I probably couldnt tell the difference either.

I love Rage. They were a great hard rock band, but Sunday they just didn't seem like a band at all. It was as if they were just going through the motions. There was no interaction between them on stage, especially Zack and Tom. I couldn't hear Tim or Brad. It's the bass that gives them that energy and it just was flat. I had been looking forward to seeing them and yes, I was disappointed. But no worries, Infected Mushroom lifted my spirits.

Quite funny. Some would argue all the electronic music is overdone and why would they need a fucking dome when there is dance tent.

Someday music snobs like yourself will understand music is subjective and that you sound like nothing more than a mindless tool when you say things like that.

Now, you can talk about a portion of the fans of those bands but that's where the conversation should probalby begin and end because you can call them angry headliners but they are obviously important because they sell out shows across the country ten times over and over and over again. So they are angy, important headliners.

Maybe we should all bitch about Tiesto being on the main stage when there are already a dance tent, a fucking rave dome and now this trance asshat is on the main stage too?

Nah, I'll let people be happy seeing what they went to see and that goldenvoice gives us a variety of acts to watch at every single time of the day. You are never just given one option so quit the bitchin'!

Speaking as a Coachella Purist, I was watching Rage.

I wouldn't call yourself a purist considering you left to the parking lot instead of watching the Lemonheads or one of the other bands that were playing during rage. Coachella purists don't leave the fest because they want to beat traffic.

Jesus and Mary Chain sound was by far the worst on the main stage...so freakin' loud it killed. Rage was alright, not great though. They lacked the good sound from the main stage, and good energy. Zach's performance was pretty intense, but lost due to sound problems.

Don't know what your problem was but Rage fucking tore the place down! If you wanna see a concert, don't stand in the back! I was up front or near the front the whole time and it was the best musical experience of my life. If you can't appreciate it, then don't bitch about it.

People that can actually hear and have an ear for sound were able to tell the mixiing was being messed with and the overall sound was very flat. Not necessarily Rages fault but maybe the soundmans fault but christ if I had a bunch of morons climbing up my structure I was working under, i might have a shitty night too.

If anyone saw Tool last year they know the fucking sound was dead on for Tool and sonically there was no comparison to the flat sounding Rage show. Tool was HD while Rage was barely in stereo.

OK I am a huge Rage fan, I've seen them around 13 times going back to Lollapalooza opening band in '93. I must admit they were not on top of their game. Zack didnt have the energy he usually does, the volume was not loud enough, and last but not least the crowd sucked. I am from Detroit and in the D when Rage comes out theres almost a tidal wave to the front, not just a bunch of people hopping up and down like a fucking Weezer concert. I do blame it on Zack he was not on point there where gaps where he'd be catching his breath and I was not impressed. I do believe a band feeds of the crowd too so everyone look at your self and wonder did I give them my 100%?

faxman75
05-02-2007, 01:46 PM
The crowd was obviously giving 100 percent. Zach was just not on his game so to speak. I dunno, all the hype all the while they were a band things were hunky dory in the US and now they come back in the midst of a crumbling administration and he has NOTHING to say other than we should hang some washed up presidents.

What? Why would you even speculate? My only concern was for who they landed on if they fell. Hopefully people would have moved in time and they would have just killed themselves.

Yeah this was my bazillionth show ever kid. I had a good time and I saw them when you were probably in grade school still so I had a way to compare of course. Yeah you should have gone the whole weekend and Family Values wouldve been just a stupid fest against Coachella. For me, it was great, but, they were rusty and I coudl tell. The sound was an issue but that comes with the territory sometimes I guess.

The crowd sucked? Are you fuckin kidding me? The crowd was insanely intense! I was roughly 50 yards away from the stage, diagonally to the right. Not my choice, I would be have been closer if it were possible. Its a miracle I made it all the way there without the shit being kicked outta me. Anyways, by the end of Testify, I was right at the front! And it was cuz I was pushing. I just went with the flow. By the time I got to front, it was pure madness. It was easily the most packed, most rough, most intense pit I have ever been in. It was rediculous. I was in there until the end of bombtrack, then needed to be crowd surfed out of there. That is the first time I have ever needed to be surfed out of the crowd. Also, before I got lifted out, a full grown man bumped into me and was crying and asked me to lift him up. He was crying! No offence meant. I was just using the prove a point. Also, I dislocated my thumb just before I got surfed out.
Anyways, on their performance itself, initially right after, I felt a little disapointed. But then I really thought about it, and what just happened and what they played, and I realized it was an amazing performance. Sure they were a little rusty, but that was the be expected. Also, you have to take into account that their sound system sucked. From the back, you could hear the Lemonheads over Rage. The Lemonheads!!! In the end, it was not a dispointment at all.

I was front row, right infront of the speaker on stage left... and the sound was pretty terrible. The first song was mixed poorly. All guitar and vocals... couldnt heard the bass or drums. By the second song they cranked it and it sounded great. But a few more songs in the sound cut out a bit and it sounded meh again.
It still fucking rocked, though I did expect more from them.
Peeping Tom stole the festival for me.

Wheres the beef?

I actually kind of agree. I was pretty dissapointed by Rage, but the audience didn't seem to really care because most of them were into it, especially the die hard fans. They were going ape shit. I was tired of hearing about them throughout the festival though, it just got way too overhyped I think. By the second day, the main stage sound just sucked too, so you can't really blame Rage I guess.

I had a difficult time hearing Rage, but that was likely due to A) my location or B) the fact the sound people sucked all weekend, especially at the outdoor stage.

The message Zach finally issued was that every U.S. President since Truman should be shot and hung for war crimes. His criticism wasn't so much against Bush, but against the system. He basically told people that voting doesn't matter and our democracy is a joke. To some degree, I agree. But, I personally think his message is counter-productive. You the people can change it, just care about it, get informed, vote, run for office, be involved.

I found the fans at Coachella for Rage only to be extremely rude. I mean, come on, taunting Crowded House? I agree that someone royally effed up the lineup, but it was a reunion show. Those fans weren't there for the music. Now, I agree we all have different tastes in music, but it was completely disrespectful to keep chanting "Rage, Rage, Rage" at Crowded House. Some of us were there to see Crowded House and not Rage.

I can't fault bands for the people that choose to listen to their music, but at least the Tool fans were a lot nicer and more respectful last year than the Rage fans.

I think people who were disappointed expected too much..I mean the band was out for 7 years, so everyone probably built in their head what a ideal rage show should be. I still enjoyed even theough I was a mile (Felt like it) and thought it was pretty good. Not the best show of the weekend for me anyways, but if you went to Coachella for 1 band only you missed the point of the festival.
