Hi there, this will be my 4th year going to Coachella. My buds and i usually rent a room for 1 night...but since this year its 3 nights, we're considering onsite camping for 3 nights.

I'd appreciate any advice anyone can provide in regards to the camping experience...what's the food court food like? i heard the showers are great, but what are the restrooms like? ~that one is a big issue for one of my friends.

Are we assigned a spot when we buy the camping tickets or is it first come first serve? we plan to show up Friday afternoon by 5 or 6 (hopefully)

Also, we're gonna be a group of 5 and we'd like to use one tent, one of those big ones with two or three rooms...is a tent that size allowed? what's the largest? i didnt quite understand the conditions in the FAQS, is it 50 sq ft per person without a maximum?

Thank you in advance, and i wish you all an awesome coachella experience!!:)

Last year was my first year and no major issues.

Showers-clean, warm water, no waiting if you shower early or late (before 8am or after 11pm before 12:30am)

Restrooms-they are portapotties, BUT they are cleaned every 4 hours. They are really clean, and dont stink. However, stay away from the ones right next the to bar, those are used the most and get funky fast. My friends and I used the one closest to the venue and they were always clean.

Food-The food is like what's in the venue, price is a little high but not bad. I would advise taking all your drinks. Freeze your water/tea and you will not need much ice, maybe a single bag on Sat. For breakfast go to Augistine Casino for their $3.99 steak, eggs and potatoe(12am-9am). Its 3 miles away of ave 54 right past Van Buren.

Camping ticket- If you get there early, pre 8pm, you can pretty much choose your spot. We were in J or G 34, I believe, and we didn't have any issues. While in line look for a letter that is far enough from the bars, food, showers, and restrooms if you want the best camping experience. After the check your bags, they scan your ticket, and you line up in front of the letter you want. They will assign you a spot within that letters zone. Since you said there will be 5 or 6 of you, you will be allowed to take up to 5 or 6 7x7 spots in that area.

Tent- a big tent is fine, as long as it doesn't take up more space than there are people ie each person is allowed 7x7. So a tent that is 10x17 is fine if there is at least 3 people.

ummm are you missing fridays shows? Or did you mean to say you are arriving Thursday? If you arrive friday, you will be forced to go where ever there is space, and not really have a choice.

hope this helps

WOAH WOAH WOAH. So basically, if we come Thursday, we'll get good spots?

From what I read on the website, the camping seems pretty decent.

We're flying in to LAX on Friday, at 11:45am, so I'm guessing it will be pushing 5pm by the time we arrive? The only good thing I can get out of this is that the big rush will have already passed, but we won't have much choice as to where we're camping.

Wait, so does this mean if I get there Sat morning I wont get a spot? Should I be worried?

Okay, so I"m taking a greyhound to ***** we'd probably get to the grounds by 6 pm thursday... will we be looking at a long wait?

Camping doesn't open until 5pm on Thursday, so the wait would be longer than it was last year, since camping opened earlier, but 6pm should be fine. I;'d say any time after 8pm is bad, and that's when the line gets 4 hours long.

You may get stuck by the showers or portapotties, but last year people just kind of created there own new areas to camp. If you have a ticket, you will have a spot. But if there is a bunch of you guys, you might not find a big enough area for all of your tents. If in doubt, have one big tent, instead of smaller ones.... but that might kill any plans.

if i get there really late on thursday night (maybe even in the early AM's of friday...) will i be doomed to a shit spot? will there still be an impossible line and will everyone be snoozing as i'm trying desperately to set up my tent by moonlight?

I just assumed that camping closer to the bar/food would be better. Why would you set up camp farther away from those areas? Is it the smell or the noise?

Both, and drunk people trying to walk back to there tent, or to the bathroom. Plus do you really want to be directly down wind of the bathrooms that are used the most? If you get the ones closest to the fence line where people waiting to come in, it will be loud all night. To each there own though.

After camping the last two years I'd advise getting there as early as possible and finding a spot away from the main thoroughfares (as mentioned above). Most importantly though, I'd highly recommend either bringing or camping next to an easily findable landmark, such as a tall flag or weather balloon. Seriously, after running around the fields all day, the campground that you return to will not be the same one that you remember from the daytime.

Are they really strict about opening at 5 pm? We're getting into LAX at about 12 pm, and after lunch and a bit of shopping, we were planning to head to the camping grounds. If we get there at, say, 4:30, will we have to wait?

Thanks!

Hi. Once you're in the festival area, can you go back to the tents for a bit to snooze and then re-enter the festival?

Nope. Just do your napping in the shade of the AT&T Blueroom, aka "myspace addicts anonymous"
