Check the GA numbers on ticketmaster. They are expecting like 30,000 a day or so. Good enough for a first time festival.

they just got CMT as a sponsor. that will help a lot at least next year.

TomAz

I also read an article where Paul T said he listened to nothing but country music for three months straight. Now that is dedication.

The Palomino stage lineup is damned good.

Thats cool I totally thought that it was going to tank. Didnt Coachella only have 20,000 its first year?

suprefan
04-25-2007, 03:38 PM
Something like that, more abround 30k. I think it was smart of GV to make sure to give all the freedoms we dream of to the Stagecoach audience because that would be the only way to keep them coming back. They are going to freak out and love this I figure, and its great that everyone will get long set times so they dont complain. It can only get better, besides its all been word of mouth. If they all leave happy its going to get huge next year.

Is there any real difference in the rules between the 2?

RVs are allowed, ins and outs given to campers. You can bring in chairs(only specific ones) for starters.

Yeah I just read that I think that it has alot to do with the age demographic Coachella is geared torwords a younger crowd...

suprefan
04-25-2007, 03:58 PM
This is being billed as a family thing, they even have kids activities/areas so yeah they got even younger ones than we would.

I want BBQ and a lasso clinic!

And Cooter.

i be cooter over yonder...

the stagecoach message board is back up and i put a review up over there...

"it was amazing! so different than coachella and in a lot of ways, better. the best was the mid 80's temps on saturday, tons of clouds in the sky keeping us cool. sunday was clear skies and a lot hotter. the crowd was soooo laid back. everyone was sitting in their chairs and on their blankets just rocking out. i would choose a stagecoach crowd over a coachella crowd, at least for this year...rednecks > frat boys. you could leave the beer gardens with up to 2 beers. way more family oriented. i am guessing there were close to 35,000 a day, maybe even 40,000...to look out at the crowd while george strait was playing, i was more than impressed in the turn out for a first year festival. you could see heads packed in almost all the way back to the merch tent. spent most of my time at the palomino stage and the apaloosa tent and it was a great time. i am a coachella vet and will be a stagecoach vet in the near future if they go ahead with it next year...and i am not even a fan of country, just into events in themselves(the backstage access i receive makes it a lot more enjoyable for me for both events, as well).

as for that review in the oc register...i hate "critics", they're name says it all-they are there to criticize and it sucks that they can't just go as fans and enjoy themselves"

i think it's just a much more subdued vibe...families on the grass sitting on lawnchairs and blankets instead of a bunch of teenagers out to get drunk/stoned/high. just a much more contolled and mellow crowd. sure there were a few that were probably a little outta control, but it would be way worse if this was allowed at coachella.

i was there. it was not as hot, not as dirty, not as crowded. it seemed like a day at the park for us. the bbq was definitely good.

the "sahara" tent had a saloon so you can buy a drink while you listened to music and browsed their art gallery. it even had a huge wooden dance floor.

the "gobi" tent was transformed into the bullriding tent.

i didn't see much of the music except for Kris Kristofferson. not bad for my first (and last) country outting.

the cyclists were still there, they seemed like they had the most fun.

best shirt at stagecoach besides my Eazy-E shirt, a Geronimo shirt worn by some dude that said "My heroes were killed by cowboys"

The local news said there were 35 alcohol related arrests at Stagecoach - no drug arrests. They said 30,000 attendance per day. It will be held again in 2008.

Note that tix were going for $40-50 locally the day before Stagecoach - way under face value - not even close to a sell-out. Not even.

i felt the same way when i was there! it's just 2 different worlds...and the stagecoach world was much friendlier and laid back, i don't blame the staff and police for being more relaxed. now if it starts selling out and there are 60,000 people a year things could change. there was just a different vibe. everyone driving us around in the golf carts seemed way happier, i'm sure the mid 80 degree temps on saturday helped a bit! our favorite chauffer for the 2 weekends had to be karen, ran into her everywhere whenever we wanted a ride, nicest person ever!

The first (and only) time I saw EmmyLou Harris was back in the 70s. It was a concert with James Taylor & Phoebie Snow. Phoebie cancelled and EmmyLou was her replacement. The crowd was not expecting bluegrass, so she got booed by lots of people.

My favorite c/w stars that saw in the past have been Buck Owens, Loretta Lynn, Willie Nelson (35 years ago), Roy Rogers & Dale Evans, Charlie Daniels, and Ronnie Milsap. I'd go to Stagecoach if GV had Crystal Gayle and/or Dolly Parton. I bet Dolly would sell the place out.

Man I wish I couldve gone, I was off this weekend too. Next year I need to budget for this too and just go. I feel bad for the people who just dont know what it means to discover new things and walk around and check out the whole place. I wouldnt have minded being a mile away on the Mane stage for the big names, but obviously from the sound of it being able to get up close for the other stages would be a cake walk. Next year you guys should throw in a curveball(coachella style) and put a big name up against another with slightly staggered set times and see what they do. "Blasphemy!!! Burn down the Tesla Coil!!" thats what they will say. Then they will know how we feel at Coachella when we have to pick who we wanna see and not get everything we asked for. I wanna see some cowboys running around with their chairs from stage to stage that would be a treat.

"No disrespect to the pickers and raconteurs in the tents, but this crowd probably would have preferred a rock ’n’ roll stage: say, Third Eye Blind, Poison and some reconstituted version of Lynyrd Skynyrd. By now, all that stuff — bar-friendly rock from across the decades — is part of country’s heritage too."

Hahaha. Ouch. It will be interesting if Goldenvoice continues to follow the Coachella model in future years by picking diverse, less well-known acts to fill out the smaller stages. I wonder if that model can be successful for a crowd like the one that Stagecoach is seeming to attract. I hope it can.

Since the Mane Stagers were happy to just sit there all day long, I think GV would be wise to amp up the highest level Alt-Country acts and promote that side of it, too. Like someone said, some sort of dual-fest type thing. Then again, ACL has a pretty good grasp on the alt-country markert.

hey TomAz, we met Lucinda back stage one time, maybe 3 years ago, she was the weirdest song person i ever met ... i think mostly she might have just been trashed but not sure .. cr****

on Friday she:

1. read her song lyrics from a book,. which meant she kept having to look down to see what lines to sing next;

2. stopped in the middle of a song, said her allergies were really bothering her and so she couldn't do that song, and then went on to blame Bush for doing nothing about global warming;

3. had a set list, but after a few songs disregarded it and started negotiating with the audience and band what songs to play next

4. but, then, stopped negotiating and played new stuff (so new not even on her new album)

5. talked on and on in between songs, not always making sense; and

6. just generally looked confused. she kept thinking the stage exit was behind her and they kept having to point her the right way
