is it just me but has the number of Coachella bands playing in LA within a week increased significantly? taken from the Filter LA newsletter, I found all of the following Coachella artists playing within a week of the event:

4/25 The Lemonheads @ El Rey
4/26 Tapes 'n Tapes, The Harlem Shakes @ Spaceland
4/26 The Jesus and Mary Chain @ The Glass House
4/26 !!! @ Amoeba Music Hollywood
4/27 Crowded House @ The Glass House
4/29 Coco Rosie, Busdriver @ El Rey
4/29 Travis @ The Fonda
4/30 The Kooks @ Slim's
4/30 Cornelius @ El Rey
4/30 Andrew Bird @ Amoeba Music (Hollywood)
5/1 Rufus Wainwright @ El Rey
5/2 The Teddybears @ El Rey

ok, so two of them are amoeba shows, but still. I don't remember it being like this at all. was I just oblivious to this in past years?

well with the ticket sales taken care of well in advance, there is no worries with the bands playing around the coachella dates. :)

I had actually wondered that. Are the bands asked to hold up on performing locally within a certain number of days of the show and were they given a release from that provision due to the fact that Coachella has sold out this year (ticketwise)?

8 of those shows are at GV controlled venues, go figure. You are missing plenty of other ones if you count SD,SF AND Vegas.

I dig this...I'm seeing DJ Shadow, VNV Nation, and Arcade Fire all in LA so I don't have to worry about conflicts at Coachella much

If a band has a show at a good-size venue, they usually can't promote any other shows in that city anywhere from a week to a month before and after the venue's show.

that's not unusual though. denver is far far away. :-)

again, not unusual. I have noticed that every year, I think those cities are outside the radius that bands are restricted to.

VERY good point. that explains a lot. especially coming from you. :-) now I am at peace. thank you!

down in the south bronx
down home
saw you walking down the street again
saw you looking sweet again

i saw you coming through
i turned my head away from you
why do you come here
why do you come around
why'd you go home
why'd you head on home to rockaway?

Faithless has a show in SF on Monday night as well.

That's probably going to be a much better show than their Coachella performance.

Too bad I'm not a jetsetter.
