View Full Version : Coachella after dark...where's the after party at?

Coming from 'Londonengland' this'll be my first festival in the US. Bit worried as I'm reading stuff like there's no alcohol allowed on the festival campsite (apart from whatever expensive drinks they feel like serving you at the onsite bars) and everyone's in bed by 2am...wtf?!

Basically where do people stay if post-gig fun/mayhem is a priority? I've always considered that a big part of going to festivals over here. There's no way I'm going to be able to sleep after seeing Rage anyway! Lake Cahuilla looks cool, but sounds like it's a good few miles away?

There are a few casinos not far so theres a good bet...

casino - good call, but was wondering more about where's best to stay...onsite or offsite?

Stay onsite man, there's plenty of drinking everywhere anyway.

They say no alcohol, and they do attempt to search you, but dont worry you can bring whatever you want if you hide it well. Once you are in the campsite its pretty much free game when the lights go out. BUT, most people there are pretty chill and it probably wont be much of a rager after the shows are done. Last year I remember a drum circle going on till the crack of dawn, so I know they dont enforce the 2AM rule very well.

You will need these 3 things 1) Tarps and poles for shade, EZ Up is best 2) Lights for night - it gets really dark 3) Water - lots of it

we camped and stayed up late the first night thinking yah this is a great party every night is going to be like this! we can sleep in , the concert doesn't start until 12 and we are only a 5 minute walk away. WRONG at about 7am your tent feels like 110 degrees and you are up! besides a few party areas most people were fast asleep from the tiredness brought on by the heat all day the next two days of camping....

Dude, you're coming from England...$6 a beer is nothing for you. Coachella doesn't charge too much for booze compared to other festivals.
Seriously 3 pounds a beer? I don't think it will hurt yur budget too much.

We got so lucky last year with the campground we found. It's right across from the festival grounds, right across from where the artist entrance and parking is. It was cool, in the mornings we could hear the sound checks and we even walked over and got to see some of the artists up close! I think the best part aside from the fact that at night when is over you dont have to get into ur car and drive in heavy traffic to a hotel (by the end of the night i'm pretty wasted ya know) is that there are no rules...yey!

With on-site camping they enforce a crewfew, you can't take any alcohol or ganja if you get caught (like we did in '03) you get kicked out! oh and they don't allow camp fires either, which was my fav part last year (chilling around the campfire after the show smoking a blunt and taking about how amazing this or that band was...lol)

So anyways this campsite is totally dope, their mad chill, I'm telling you they even got their cousins to come out and DJ after the show was over on Saturday, it turned into an afterparty.

I don't think the campground has a name.... it's located on private property across from the EPF. The owners are Manny and MaryLou. Send me an email and pass over the info to reserve a spot..... Don't worry about being alone! OneLove baby.

Hey, I'm coming over from New Zealand and am looking forward to the festival and atmosphere. What is the drinking age in California? It says 18+ to get into the camp ground but if they are checking ID for the beer garden, is it 21+? It's 18 in NZ.
Thanks,
Sam

Hey there...

My friends and I are blowin our tax returns out there this year and we need some serious help w/the planning. We're comin from NYC and though we've all been at one point or another, we know DICK about navigating Cali.

I see some people found some solid off-site camping and that is exactly what we're lookin for. Could those of you that posted good experiences give me some names of spots to check out? I would totally appreciate it!

Another thing I need help with is tickets! My bro in Denver was supposed to hook it up but his procrastinating ass never did and now it's sold out. But I got a plane ticket and no way am I missing this shit.

Anyone have any info on where to get tix w/out losing every little dime I possess in this world?

Thanks a lot guys.

If you only knew...

The crew I run with are the KINGS of afterparties..let me tell you. It works pretty much the same everywhere...there is always something afterwards. Ask around toward the end of the night and word of an afterset is bound to come your way...

Usually, around here it's either a warehouse, a hotel or someone's private home that we go to, set up some decks and continue the party until late in the next day. Most times the afterparties are even better than the shows.

Minus the fire the rest of what you are talking about took place onsite. I assure you there was no "enforce" in reagards to the curfew though I don't really know who would want to be up much past two when the sun starts beating down pretty early but to each their own. ONsite has the benefits of showers, shitters and a general store as well. i will gladly give up fire for those luxaries.

Do people do meet and greets on the first night? me and my bro wanna meet the neighbours the first night but only if its something enjoyed by all.

P.s. little worried about the possible lack of alcohol, coming from a drink nation .. festivals and alcohol become one...
