So I wasn't aware that so many closed-minded, ignorant, anti-free speech rednecks were Coachella attendees. With the tirades against Cindy Sheehan and other anti-war activists going on in here, you'd think that a busload of Bushies just got their free tickets or something.

1. If you don't want to hear political speech walk away from it.

2. If you're coming to a festival with Rage Against the Machine headlining the closing day, you're boun dto hear political speech.

3. If you throw things at a woman for speaking her mind, then you are an ignorant grunting ape of a man. Grow up and learn to value the freedoms the nation was founded to protect, or shut the fuck up.

4. If you physically assault or throw things at someone for speaking out, then it is YOU who are a traitor to this nation. You disagree with someone then debate them...dont resort to immature violent acts.

5. To those who say things like, "I go to Coachella to get away from political issues"...get a fucking life you crybaby fucks. Oh no...your personal weekend of ignorance might be shattered by...THOUGHTS. Holy shit! End of the world type stuff!

If you really want to have a good weekend, don't let shit like that get to you. If it really bothers you that much though, go off and join the Young Republicans or something and leave the progressive people alone to have fun.

/end rant.

Did I say that? Sure, the title of the thread said "right wingers at coachella" but the rest of the post said nothing about right-wing anything. Though I must say that idiots that do nothing but whine about how some political speech will ruin their buzz strike me as being right-leaning.

have you ever thought people just don't want to hear the same shit over and over again. Or maybe that people know that no matter what we say or do at Coachella means nothing to the white house or congress. I mean he'll we voted the Democrats into power and they still haven't stopped the war. What makes you think 60,000 people, one band and one woman could change that.

Nah man...I'm not gonna cool my jets. You have fucking morons on here talking about throwing stuff at a woman who is grieving her son the best way she knows how. Politics in this country has been a joke since just after the Reagan Administration.

Clinton did some good things, Bush Sr. did some good things.

But now, it's the media feeding us all the negative. Why can't this country be positive like the "real America" and not this BS right wing - left wing cat fight.

The real America was Reagan telling Gorbachev to tear down his wall. The real America was the world saving hero of WWII, not this America of today that thinks it has to be hard nosed about every last little thing.

SubBass, what's your current stance on politics then?

That we should be communistic and socialistic and remove any chance for progress in this country?

Never said that either.

Part of my passion for politics is that when I was growing up I was taught that America was the greatest nation on earth. That we were all about freedom, peace, and equality. As I grew older I found out that was a lot of bullshit, but I held on to the ideals. Why not strive to make America that way? It's do-able. The current system isn't working. We need true democracy. We also need socialized healthcare and REAL education funding.

We need the government to recognize that war as we have fought it doesnt gain us anything anymore. The paradigm has shifted. You dont win wars by killing more people anymore. Wars are being fought by smaller lighter military units. We're like king-kong on the top of the building. Yeah, we're stronger and bigger, but they keep landing shots and we're too damn slow to do anything about it. Therefore fostering peace is in our best interest. Our alliances in the world make little sense much of the time. So does our budgetary spending. Reform is essential to our survival.

How often do people really yell in your face telling you what to believe? Have you ever been to a protest march? I have. It's a very empowering feeling. I think that's what the political acts/guests are hoping to achieve...a renewal of the energy that so many of you are lacking. You're worn out. I was too after the 04 election.

/end rant.

And I agree with you on all points there. I miss the feeling of being younger and feeling this country had it all. Kinda like watching Rocky 4 and getting a tear in your eye because Mr. Balboa knocked out Mr. Drago and USA was on top again.

Our education system is WORLDS away from the Japanese. Health care is failing our country. Murders happen everyday in every city. The homeless "problem" is taking a starting to take a huge toll in the major cities (IE Las Vegas) We've become complacent as America, and becoming "aggressive" against an attack isn't the solution.

THE ORIGINAL POST was to address the idiots that are saying they will THROW THINGS at Cindy Sheehan if she speaks out. It was telling them things they could do, and calling them out for being idiots. The right-wing tie-in came from the FACT that right-wing values usually call for ignoring problems of others around you as long as they dont effect you immediately, and you can have a good time in the process.

But now we can draw on our collective energy and be revitalized in our opposition to the war and to this chimp of a president.

Yes. I have attended a protest march. I do know the feeling, but again you draw away from the true meaning of Coachella. Feel free to throw a protest march in LA or SD but please leave the politics at home, it just makes things uncomfortable to those just trying to enjoy Coachella for what it is.

Bottom line, you can disagree with Sheehan all you want, but dont call for her to not speak out or attend. Debate her if you want. But dont throw things at her. GET IT YET?

We already covered this and you are not picking it up, we said she should feel free to speak her mind. Just don't give her a performance at a music and arts festival.

It's like preaching the word of the bible to kids at a Comic Convention. They may have a right to speak, but its not appropriate in that environment under official pretenses.

True feeling of Coachella? That's something different to EVERY person. The TRUE feeling of Coachella for me was to hear some dope-ass performers I dont usually get a chance to see live. To be surrounded by so many other like-minded people. To hear what performers have to say (RATM, Ian McKay, etc). Coachella means a lot of things to me. Jackstraw...look...I have explained this throught the thread. I'll simplify, because I know when I join a thread late, the last thing I want to do is go back and read EVERY post.

1. Right-wingers in America typically have the mindset that as long as the bad shit doesn't effect them immediately, there's no need to stop the party.

2. Right-wingers in America typically try to shout down, intimidate, shut off, and harass those who speak their minds in public. Sheehan's situation is a perfect example.

3. Right-wingers in America typically are quick to resort to violence to achieve their goals.

All of these things are actions exhibited by the people whining about Cindy Sheehan.

Also, I realized that there is something far worse to me than a right-winger, and that is a left-winger that knows what's wrong, but is too lazy/complacent/satisfied/etc to do anything about it. Even worse than that is one that fits the criteria, but wants to shut down the people that ARE doing something about it. Now I've got respect for you...you're been pretty cool so far on here. I could suggest the same of you in the fucking sheehan thread. You're not arguing with the children in your class. do yourself a favor and quit accusing everyone who disagrees with you of not reading your posts, as if you were far too cunning to be understood.

You've made some ridiculous leaps here. Just because someone doesn't agree with sheehan's method of protest doesn't mean they're trying to "shut her down". Some people think she's acting like a lunatic. And get off your high horse accusing everyone who doesn't agree with every single liberal on the planet of being "lazy/complacent/satisfied" as if you knew everything about them or what they do in their own communities or anywhere off this fucking message board. You're completely ignorant if you think that left-wingers aren't every bit as capable of acting every bit as insane as right-wingers. Now go ahead and imply I'm lazy/complacent/satisfied and worse than a right-winger again. All I'm gonna say is this:

It sucks that people are willfully ignorant to what's going on in this country.
It sucks that impeaching Mr. Bush now would just bring everything to a screeching halt in congress and nothing, NOTHING, would get done.
It sucks that no matter what happens Mr. Bush always thinks things are good and will never take any blame for anything.

Cindy Sheehan has every right to say what she wants and so do we all. I think if anyone had the opportunity to stand on a soap box, they'd take it.

The issue here is that no one should have to do anything they don't want to regardless of how much good it would do for the country. This isn't a socialist or communist country...this is a country built on free will and capitalism. People will do what they want. You can yell at them and chances are 75% of them wont listen. Most people feel like their lives are tough enough having to raise kids or go to work every day, sometimes working multiple jobs just to make ends meet. Some people do pay attention to politics and just for one fucking weekend don't want to hear about it. I'm always up for listening...but I'm going to coachella for music and art...this is my weekend sans politics. Look past that little R next to his name. Reagan could have easily bombed the fuck out of the Soviet Union instead he let them implode on themselves. But he's a republican. Nothing matters because of that.

I'm not a republican!!

Yeah...he could have, you're right. Then he would have been a psychotic fucking lunatic instead of just a fear-mongering, exploitative jackal, who was in office when the US sold arms to IRAN (later to be a permanent member of the axis of evil) to fund a right wing militia to overthrow a legitimate government in Nicaragua.

So....I'll give you that.

I've barely skimmed this thread and don't really feel like reading it.

But SubBass I want to point something out to you. I agree with your politics for the most part but I really dislike the way you've worded this poll. Calling someone "evil" just because they have different politics than you is inappropriate. That sort of attitude (and both the left and the right have it in spades) is part of the dumbing-down of the political debate in this country that we've seen in recent years.

Q The Attorney General is still getting a lot of criticism over the U.S. attorneys situation. Was his explanation sufficient, or is there more he needs to do to try to turn things around?

THE PRESIDENT: The Attorney General went up and gave a very candid assessment, and answered every question he could possibly answer, honestly answer, in a way that increased my confidence in his ability to do the job.

One of the things that's important for the American people to understand is that the Attorney General has a right to recommend to me to replace U.S. attorneys. U.S. attorneys serve at the pleasure of the President. In other words, we have named them, and I have the right to replace them with somebody else. And as the investigation, the hearings went forward, it was clear that the Attorney General broke no law, did no wrongdoing. And some senators didn't like his explanation, but he answered as honestly as he could. This is an honest, honorable man, in whom I have confidence.

dont fucking accuse me of not reading the thread before responding. Do you really think this bullshit tit for tat is so dense that it cannot be followed?

Do you think screaming your head off at a liberal leaning message board is "doing your part" for your cause? because that's all I know of you. Should I assume that's the extent of your contribution to making change?

You're still missing the point. AND putting words in my mouth. I never said lefties couldn't be ignorant. I also never accused every person who doesnt agree with liberals of being lazy or complacent. The REASON I ask you to go back and READ is that you are IGNORING a lot of what I say. I'm used to it though. And if you really HAD read my posts, you'd know EXACTLY what I do to contribute to making change. Grrr...

SubBass49
04-24-2007, 06:13 PM
seriously, do you enjoy putting words into peoples mouths. Now I'd really like to see where i said "lets all give up" i really would. If you find a quote of me saying "Lets all give up" I'll get down on my knees and suck Cindy Sheehan's twat on stage during Rage.

And PLEASE before you call someone ignorant learn to read your OWN POST. I feel bad for your students. I hope to God they are mentally challenged, cuz honestly them not being able to comprehend the shit that probably comes out of your mouth will be best for them.

OH NO!!! i capitalized the G in God!!!! AHHHHHHHHH Im a right wing jesus freak fascists!!! AHHHHH!!!

Your words were something to the effect of, "well we cant accomplish anything now anyway...so why bother?" That sounds a LOT like giving up to me. Your words may not have been "lets give up" but that was the message LOUD & CLEAR. But regardless, I have taken students from a 3rd grade readng level (in 9th grade) and now several are attending college. Some traditional Republican values are even GOOD values. Fiscal conservativism is a good thing...states rights are a good thing. The problem is that people blindly vote GOP because of social issues and we end up with a moron like Bush. That's like saying you love to drink Coke, and then seeing a news report saying it had battery acid in it, but you keep buying it anyway because you're a loyal Coke drinker till the bitter end. BOTH parties are corrupt, or better yet have corrupt people in them. Right now Obama is the ONLY person I feel is still trustworthy in the presidential political arena because he doesnt try to hide things or cover up the bad things in his past. He's real about it. That's rare. I hope it lasts.

I like how the Cold War got dragged into this thread. Russia fucked itself over from the getgo. Trying to force an industrial revolution on the backs of the peasants, while at the same time ignoring a major famine AND forcing out your agricultural force is not a good way to start a country. Yeah, they were successful for quite some time, but, besides Stalin and Krushchev, they didn't have strong leadership (and Stalin was crazy, no doubt, but he was a strong leader) who could continue their original goals.

BTW---if I could post just a few words about my feelings having served in Somalia and Iraq.

I'm normally "that guy" at work/with friends who takes the left wing position when it comes to the War, the socio/economic disparity amongst minorities, affirmative action et al... And I too, will chide/cajole people who don't seem interest, don't know enough about certain issues or are just apathetic.

But hey, the Army even gave us R & R. When I was in Somalia, they sent us to Mombasa, Kenya for 3 days and one of my buddies ordered alcohol through room service (using the alias Billy Dee Williams--we weren't allowed to drink "in theater"). Anyway, he got everyone in trouble and they sent everyone back to Mogadishu the next day.

All I'm just saying is I think even the most strident protestors can use a few days to recharge their batteries, see the good in other and enjoy the sunshine.

And if I see any guy throwing anything at any girl, chivalry is never dead!!!

True dat man...but I think part of the thing that pisses me off about all the Sheehan complainers is that they KNOW the festival is huge. You can go all day without setting foot in front of one stage or another...if you want to escape something at the festival it's easily do-able. Yet they seem to feel it'd be better if the woman wasn't allowed on site or given the chance to speak her mind. All so they could be ignorant for a few days. And much respect goes to you for your service.

Since you did time in Mogadishu I know you signed up prior to 9/11, so your service in Iraq was nothin you planned on, yet you went and did your job anyway. Much respect. Problem is that these cats (at least the ones whose myspace pages I've found) aren't stressed out soldiers who've been on edge for months at a time. I have little sympathy for them...at least not the kind I have for you and your fellow soldiers.

Peace.

I guess I didn't really pay much attention to her until she officially announced her candidacy. I'm not sure if it was her endorsement of torture tactics in terror investigations, her fake southern accent pandering when stopping in the south, or her quick rush to Rutgers to glom on to the Imus controversy...somewhere along the way I started to really dislike her.

Wandering Around an Albuquerque Airport Terminal

by Naomi Shihab Nye

After learning my flight was detained 4 hours,
I heard the announcement:
If anyone in the vicinity of gate 4-A understands any Arabic,
Please come to the gate immediately.

Well -- one pauses these days. Gate 4-A was my own gate. I went there.
An older woman in full traditional Palestinian dress,
Just like my grandma wore, was crumpled to the floor, wailing loudly.
Help, said the flight service person. Talk to her. What is her
Problem? We told her the flight was going to be four hours late and she
Did this.

I put my arm around her and spoke to her haltingly.
Shu dow-a, shu- biduck habibti, stani stani schway, min fadlick,
Sho bit se-wee?

The minute she heard any words she knew -- however poorly used --
She stopped crying.

She thought our flight had been cancelled entirely.
She needed to be in El Paso for some major medical treatment the
Following day. I said no, no, we're fine, you'll get there, just late,

Who is picking you up? Let's call him and tell him.
We called her son and I spoke with him in English.
I told him I would stay with his mother till we got on the plane and
Would ride next to her -- southwest.

She talked to him. Then we called her other sons just for the fun of it.

Then we called my dad and he and she spoke for a while in Arabic and
Found out of course they had ten shared friends.

Then I thought just for the heck of it why not call some Palestinian
Poets I know and let them chat with her. This all took up about 2 hours.

She was laughing a lot by then. Telling about her life. Answering
Questions.

She had pulled a sack of homemade mamool cookies -- little powdered
Sugar crumbly mounds stuffed with dates and nuts -- out of her bag --
And was offering them to all the women at the gate.

To my amazement, not a single woman declined one. It was like a
Sacrament. The traveler from Argentina, the traveler from California,
The lovely woman from Laredo -- we were all covered with the same
Powdered sugar. And smiling. There are no better cookies.

And then the airline broke out the free beverages from huge coolers --
Non-alcoholic -- and the two little girls for our flight, one African
American, one Mexican American -- ran around serving us all apple juice
And lemonade and they were covered with powdered sugar too.

And I noticed my new best friend -- by now we were holding hands --
Had a potted plant poking out of her bag, some medicinal thing,

With green furry leaves. Such an old country traveling tradition.
Always
Carry a plant. Always stay rooted to somewhere.

And I looked around that gate of late and weary ones and thought,
This is the world I want to live in. The shared world.

Not a single person in this gate -- once the crying of confusion stopped
-- has seemed apprehensive about any other person.

They took the cookies. I wanted to hug all those other women too.
This can still happen anywhere.

Not everything is lost.

Rumsfeld was the one that immediately looked for an Iraq connection. Bush's actions are an extension of that.

Try actually reading the PNAC document. Wolfowitz did not write it, he was one signatory. The document deals with increasing and improving intelligence operations and technologies. The Pearl Harbor quote is in that context, not in the context of occupying Middle East countries.

Direct copy from the official government 9/11 report (highlighting is mine):

http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/1508/52514260df4.jpg

And this is a quote from an article that I provided you a link to:

In 1992, just before Bush's father was defeated by Bill Clinton, Wolfowitz wrote a blueprint to 'set the nation's direction for the next century', which is now the foreign policy of George W. Bush. Entitled 'Defence Planning Guidance', it put an onus on the Pentagon to 'establish and protect a new order' under unchallenged American authority.

The US, it said, must be sure of 'deterring potential competitors from even aspiring to a larger regional or global role' - including Germany and Japan. It contemplated the use of nuclear, biological and chemical weaponry pre-emptively, 'even in conflicts that do not directly engage US interests'.

Wolfowitz's group formalised itself into a group called Project for the New American Century, which included Cheney and another old friend, former Pentagon Under-Secretary for Policy under Reagan, Richard Perle.

In a document two years ago, the Project pondered that what was needed to assure US global power was 'some catastrophic and catalysing event, like a new Pearl Harbor'. The document had noted that 'while the unresolved conflict with Iraq provides immediate justification' for intervention, 'the need for a substantial American force presence in the Gulf transcends the issue of the regime of Saddam Hussein'.

At a graduation speech to the Military Academy at West Point, Bush last June affirmed the Wolfowitz doctrine as official policy. 'America has, and intends to keep,' he said, 'military strengths beyond challenge.'

I'm not going to go back through this thread and pick out every bit of evidence. I have more important things to do. The bottom line revolves around people saying that I said things I didn't say. They said that I wrote, "sheehan haters=right-wingers" yet when challenged to find that quote, they couldn't. It's not a big challenge folks...it's the VERY FIRST POST in the thread. I made seperate references to right-wingers and Sheehan haters...something that seems beyond the grasp of more than one person on this board, which is sad.

There is a memo from Rumsfeld written hours after 9/11 instructing his staff and essentially the entire administration to "sweep it all up" .. "things related and not." This memo is in the public record. Your little article does not mention or discount it in any way. If you had taken 5 minutes to read the link I provided to you, you would theoretically understand this. That's entirely besides the fact since what you were trying to prove was that Bush initiated the Iraq conversations - a claim you appear to have given up on now.

You lack even the most basic ability to follow a train of thought over the course of a few hours. That retardery on your part is the cause of the length of this thread - you are simply not fit to converse with mentally equipped human beings on a topic any more complex than the rigging of your state mandated safety harness. It's like I'm trying to have a conversation with a brain-addled dog cowering in the corner sloppily assaulting its balls. 1. My "little article" IS THE OFFICIAL 9/11 COMMISSION REPORT written and compiled with more complete information than the supposed breakthrough CBS article you have from way back.
You fucking re-re.

2. Rumsfeld asked for INFORMATION to be swept up. He was gathering INTEL...and AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.
You fucking moron.

3. The reason it's hard to stick to the topic is that idiots keep changing the topic and bringing up new issues without first addressing the ones that I wrote the thread to deal with. PLUS the sheer VOLUME of SHADY SHIT and FUCKUPS that this administration is responsible for are mind-boggling.

I don't have hours to sit here and lay out a 6-page position paper to detail every event. If you want to educate yourself on these things, read some books. There are authors that have spent 400+ pages detailing and outlining the events surrounding 9/11 and the lead-up to the war in Iraq.

EDIT: Oh, and the description of a dog licking it's balls, combined with your description of someone beating off into their own mouth concerns me. Perhaps you should seek professional help. You may be a danger to yourself and others.

Everything Sub Base JB is saying in this entire thread is true and important.

The problem is most of her work goes unnoticed. The problem with this country is the lack of media coverage on whats really going on. Corporate pressure at so many points influences the media to be vague and watered down. Anything that might conflict with stock profits or corporate interests gets put on the back burner; page 17 of the paper, and is never in the bold print.

So I agree with Sub Base JB, it makes me feel damn good to hear some BOLD PRINT truth over some loud speaker systems at Coachella. Even if it is the preacher speaking to the choir. Coachella is about feeling unity, shared moments, and music (for me anyway). Im not going Sunday because i get the feeling there will be more Rage idiots than political Rage fans. But the other days I hope to be around some like minded "thinkers" and if some of em wanna stand up and shout about the truth, I for one will stand there and listen.
