2005, a very creepy security guy was sticking his thumbs under people's underwear bands as they came in. He did this to me, my friends, and several others. He was a short little guy with bloodshot deviant eyes. Very creepy.

they took all of my fucking allergy medicine... i didn't want to take all of my pills in, just two to get me though the day... and nose spray.

Well, if you do not have a prescription label on it they will not let you take it in.

Yeah I am severely allergic to grass! Yeah good thing there isn't much grass on a GIANT GRASS POLO FIELD!

Looks like I am going to have to swallow a condom of allergy pills this year :S

they're not that strict - we've brought in all sorts of shit every year - they only give you a light pat down - if things are in shoes/socks, inner pockets etc. then you'll be fine...

Once again boxer briefs with rubber bands over each leg hiked up into your crotch will keep most items secure & where they won't go. make sure you take the rubber bands off when you get in though because they will slowly cut off yr circulation.

i saw a girl pull a straight-up bong out of her purse last year while i was eating under the food tent. security is not that tight. only thing i want to sneak in are bottles of water, as they cost an arm, leg, and a nose. remember its a lame search and they only do it so they won't be liable for any sht that happens.. its all to cover their wallets..

well Its not airport tight - but pretty tight for a festival and rightfully so - as far as 2 dollar water - it ain't that bad people.

if you plan on sneakin anything, be prepared to get it taken away - or get yerself an early exit out of the festival - don't say I didn't warn ya.

Or just go ask Andy Dick.

50K people, 1 entrance (not literally, but you know what i mean) = not that an intensive a search. i'm sure if you're only slightly clever you'll be OK. i mean hell, i've heard of people sneaking in ostriches.

I had my stash and utensils taken at the gate once. I have noticed a trend in the security over the last five years. The first day is pretty lax. Then the security staff gets their asses chewed out. The second day they go all out on the guys. The girls always have way less security searches. If you are going with a girl have her carry the stuff. They will glance in your backpack the first day. The second day they actually take everything out and inspect it in detail. The skinny little prick that nailed me pulled everything out of my pack, undid the laces on my extra shoes, and felt around in the toe to find my shit. Then told me I should be glad he found it and not the cops. I told him I am a full grown man who began going to concerts while he was still shitting his diaper The police are not my enemy. Scrawny pricks with an authority complex are. Bottom line, put your shit on your person. An interesting side note. They have a whole platoon of cops guarding the security areas trash cans.

Know that I know. If you choose not to follow said advice - don't come crying. With all the attention this board gives to sneaking things in - peeps are watchin, doesn't take a genius to figure that out.

Also considering the influx of new blood - they will increase security - esp on Sunday because its in the festival's (and ours) best interest. Trust that there will be strict checks in and out of the grounds - Coachella can't afford something to taint its rep - esp in this age of many-a-festival competing for your concert going dollar.

uh..my girl had her bag up-ended on the table last year...fokkin' bs..

me? I scooted thru w/o so much a pat...lol..

so the moral of the story? pay attention! the closer you get to the front, see who's doing what...

remember, they do the boy's only line / girl's only line bs up to the front..and thats your chance to shuffle to whatever security guard is lax...

the guards are usually temps who are just there to make a hourly wage..i'd say like 50% of them are regular security guards, the other half are people just making $10 a hr..and just dreeeeeeeeamin' about confiscating/seizing your contra-band..:lool

I got rolled by a security guard while smoking in the beer garden (yes, that was stupid) and watching The Rapture's set through the fence in 2004. I about sh*t myself thinking "man, I'm gonna miss Radiohead on account of this, F*CK!" But the guy was pretty cool. He stomped it out, then searched my backpack, likely looking for hard drugs, which I did not have. I was bummed b/c it was probably a $20 smoke, but just glad I wasn't booted altogether. I guess this is an "almost security horror story." Hahaha.

2005 had much stricter security guards. The man that searched me grabbed my shorts and quickly shook them up and down. My contraband was much more secure than this though, so there were no problems.

Some friends in my group attempted to sneak in a flask of booze and they weren't as lucky. I suggest you don't try to take in anything that isn't easily concealable.

^their only punishment was to empty the flask. No threats of expulsion or anything.

Really? I thought security was pretty light on Sunday. I was camping and used the main entrance on Sunday. The only day I was really checked at all was on Friday (camping entrance). No pat downs and only a quick peek in my bag on both Saturday and Sunday.

I really think it depended on the actual security person you received, and whether they liked the looks or you or not.

I had a very rigourous search on Sunday

thelastgreatman
05-06-2007, 11:18 PM
On Saturday I got delayed briefly because there were four different kinds of pills in my dextro-amphetamine bottle. I explained they were Adderall, Valium, and Mirtazapine and that I was prescribed them all, but then he recognized the fourth kind--Viagra (I do an awful lot of substances that can render one unusable, and I didn't want to be lacking in the event of some Coachella romance). So he called his supervisor over she looked at them, and then looked at me all curious, and I just said real loud, "What? So I take Viagra--I'm 23 and my dick doesn't work, you want to give me a hard time about it?" And everyone turned and looked, some laughed, and the supervisor just shook her head and let me go.

Sunday they appeared to really be stepping it up 'cause they went through everything except the balled up sock where the stash was. Before he'd started opening stuff he asked me if he was going to find anything, I said no, and the first thing he reached for was my eyeglass case where he found a pack of Zig-zags. He said, "I thought I wasn't going to find anything." I said, "Man, I'd forgotten about those, and I could have used them last night." He said, "Am I going to find anything to go with these, 'cause maybe you should stop back by your tent and come back." Being an asshole I said, "Nah, I don't think you're going to find it," and smiled.

Friday security hardly even looked at me. They didn't even have me open my bag. Saturday I got a thorough pat down, and was made to hike up my dress so they could see I wasn't wearing shorts underneath. Overall, nothing real crazy.

Security was hardest on me on Friday. I had to stand there for a good 5 minutes while the guard took everything out of my bag and opened it. She kept thinking she'd catch me with something and say really sarcastically, "oh, I wonder what you've got in HERE," but I didn't have anthing. She seemed really pissed off that she wasn't able to bust me.:rolleyes

Saturday and Sunday they barely glanced in my bag but they patted me down.

So what was with security seperating men from women in the lines to get in? The girls line was WAY shorter than the guys, so all the girls were forced to stand in the hot sun and wait forever for the guys to get through. What a pain in the ass!

Oh, and I was told that the guys line was held up even further on sunday afternoon when some guy was busted for having a fake prescription for marijuana. What a tard.

my friend had a flask in his crotch-area and got frisked. it was taken, then they took him aside and searched him. he was banned from the show and nearly arrested. for a flask. he had to buy another ticket from a scalper. i guess he looks like a junkie though so maybe they made their choices based on his looks?

I didn't really have a problem with security, nor did my gf. The only hold-up was minor on Friday, when the girl searching my gf asked to see her ID after she found her prescription stomache ulcer pills. Plus, I think the guy who patted me down on Saturday liked my "Back home at the Kit Kat Club you have to pay extra for that" line.

I didn't go this year, but in 06, I brought in a backpack full of gatorade both days.

Day 1...Backpack gets searched, security lady tells me I'll have to dump it out...so I say no problem, then we walk straight into the grounds and never look back.

Day 2...Security person tells me to head over to the "bag searching table", so I walk straight past the table into the grounds.

I blame the poor security on the fact that there were thousands of people in line and it was at least 100 degrees...they just didn't care.

Security toughness definitely varies by year and even day. I can remember hardly getting searched at all one year, and the next being forced to go through every single pocket in my WALLET to make sure I wasn't trying to smuggle something in--and then getting into an argument with security about what my bottle of BUG SPRAY was. I mean, um, HELLO! It's BUG SPRAY!

Each year seems to get more efficient, though, so I'm not complaining--yet.

He said, "I thought I wasn't going to find anything." I said, "Man, I'd forgotten about those, and I could have used them last night." He said, "Am I going to find anything to go with these, 'cause maybe you should stop back by your tent and come back." Being an asshole I said, "Nah, I don't think you're going to find it," and smiled.

i saw more people get busted this year than ever, more than i care to go into detail about but i'll mention one. so anyway for 2008...

i was at the rear of the mojave tent about 15 people deep into the crowd when i turned around and saw just a bunch of yellow shirts RIGHT behind me taking away some guy with dreads who either just rolled a joint or had just started smoking it. someone else was selling weed in the area, not sure if they got him too. the thing that was so freaky about it was how quick it happend. just some guy rolling a joint and then a mass of yellow. it seemed like some security were alot more aggressive than in years past but for what? catching stoners? that will always seem a bit silly to me. for that set and a few others i would just see yellow jackets scanning the crowd and then massing as if they had a fight to break up.

i didnt have much trouble at the front gates till the 3rd day. the guy who searched me checked every pocket, every pocket in my backpack, took EVERYTHING out of my backpack, basically didnt leave much to be checked. after i went through my friends said that he actually said "DAMN! i thought i had that guy!". well guess what motherfucker, you didnt!

on the other hand i will say i did have several encounters with some rather friendly security personnel so it wasnt all bad

All days were easy for me to get through this year.. Only difference was on Friday a security guard actually went through my shoe (which is where ironically I normally keep things).. Fortunately, I had nothing but booze in my stomach :)

Yeah, I definitely noticed a heavier security presence this year than in previous years, going through the crowds and dragging people out. It seemed really unnecessary - this wasn't a potentially violent crowd by any means, they were just after people smoking pot. I also had to take every single item out of my bag and basically describe what it was (Lip Balm. Sunscreen. Advil. etc.) to the idiot security kid on Sunday.

I didn't really have a problem with event security Friday and Saturday. They just did the standard quick pat and quick glance in your bag bit. Totally cool. Friday, however, sucked.

Going back into the campground on Sunday morning, they demanded that I take everything out of my pockets and place them on the table. I had no problem, until the guy who frisked me opened up my little case of camera memory sticks, then pulled everything out of my wallet. For some reason, the soreness from the previous three days and the heat had finally caught up with me at this point, so I started to get really pissed.

After that, we headed straight for the event. This is where it gets fun. Security again demands that, instead of me holding the contents of my pockets as I'm frisked, I place all of it on the table. Guy tells me to turn around, and I do so. First thing he does? Squeezes my ass. Full-on squeeze. Then he runs his hands very, very slowly up and down my shirt. After that, where does he head? Front side. This wasn't a pat down. The guy gave me a full-on reach around, and by that I mean he fucking cupped my balls for a couple of seconds. He grabbed EVERYTHING down there, and then proceeded to run his hands down the insides of my thighs.

What next, you ask?

He turns on my camera, turns it off, and has me show him the compartments in it for the memory stick and batteries. Then he does what the camp security did and starts digging through my memory stick case. Next, he grabs my wallet. I'm pissed the fuck off at this point. My knees feel like they're about to explode from all of the walking, the heat was making me really, really irritable and I just had my balls grabbed hardcore.

I'd had it. Right as he grabs my wallet I look at him and say, "Stop. Right now." He just looks at me. "I have to search your wallet." Fuck no he's not. I'm sick of this fucker's power trip, he needs to back the fuck up. "No. Put it down. Now," I said, just staring him straight in the face. I've pissed him off, and he gets this angry look on his face, throws the wallet back on the table without opening it and says, "Alright, go."

Oh, and anonimouse, my friend got the same guy searching his backpack. He looked through every pocket three or four times, and every time he did he asked what was in it.

The plus side of security:

During the big mob of campers marching around on Saturday night I was talking to the security guards and a police officer who had also been there last year. They were telling me how there were some small fires and tents being flipped over last year. As this is going on, literally right in front of us there were a few people drinking beer out of glass bottles and someone smoking weed from a pipe. Cops and security did nothing. They figured that since the crowd was just annoying and nothing else, they weren't going to do anything. Much points to them.

Did anyone one notice up front at the main stage how security played favorites with hot girls who would tip them for water? I was waiting at the main stage from DCFC on to get close for Portishead, and I ran out near the end of DCFC. By mid-Kraftwerk, I was a bit thirsty, but security only gave water bottles to hot girls who tipped them. I guess next year I should keep my cash with me (I was separated from my husband who had all the cash in the back somewhere). That kinda blew. I was OK though, thank goodness. The crowd wasn't too tight up front until near the end of Portishead, and after them, I left.

They did likewise when the line for the Heineken Social dome got long. We'd been waiting for about five minutes when seven or eight girls in skimpy clothes walk up, go, "Umm... hey, can we get in?" and the guy waved 'em right through.

I was right there trying to cool off a lil and hydrate a lil. I stopped by for a minute to hear a song or two in passin in between for DIOYY and audio lux, and I saw this. I overheard something about a pipe, who knows what kind of drug. I was trying to just enjoy my mushroom, heineken and mdma diet at that point but was pretty damned hot so I coulda been mistaken.

In my own experience I didn't see any real bad take downs or fights being broken up, I'd say for the most part the festival was cool. I know drugs a plenty were snuck in from experience. I really didnt have a problem, friday I had a little bit of a pat and I had to take bulky stuff out of my bag. Saturday they just had me do the bag, and I LUCKED the fuck out because I dropped my ticket on the way in, the first girl was like I hope you find your ticket hunny (that tells you how hard she looked in my bag) And I non-chalantly waited for greg (gmoneyak) who got searched a lil more thorough, but he had no prob either, and the girl in front of me distracted the other kinda dim-witted girl, and I went right in. Sunday I didnt get a pat again, and all I had to do was open my bag. All the guy did was squeeze the bag, didn't take anything out. I think this for girls, a lot has to do with your clothing choice, I had on tank tops and loose shorts all weekend with a hat of somekind and bandanna. Sunday I snuck in food, and water, and was able to find drugs through socializing carefully, and there were plenty to be found. (I shoulda snucks some drinks!!!) I spent more money on heinekein than anything else all weekend.

as long as you are discreet and not doing it right in front of the police or security, they are cool. that's what I love about coachella. the staff, security, everyone is just there to make sure everyone has a good time.

it's soooo funny though to see people get their shit taken away at the door though. morons. i got in sooooo much stuff each day and the dude in front of me on Sunday couldn't even get his sneak a toke in. that made me laugh so hard in line...

the guy i saw get rolled was being pretty damn discreet. im now thinking maybe it had to do with the guy who was selling and the guy with the joint was just collateral damage

security is not just there to make sure everyone has a good time. they are there to make sure people are safe and are following the rules, one of which is NO Drugs & Drug Paraphernalia. i can assure you the guy who searched me DID care about the rules and DID NOT give a fuck at all about me having a good time. he wanted to hand me over to the popo standing next to him but he never found anything on me to do so

cool thing was.. last year on friday
someone had put their pretty little pipe on the ground right before the security guard and i just picked it up and pocketed it.. the guard didnt even notice and didnt even check my pockets

the stupid guard ripped out my boyfriends fucking insulin pump. we had to wait 45 minutes or so for him to walk all the way back to his tent, change it, and come back.

needless to say, they didn't find his drugs.

i had a whole bunch of "stuff" on me and didn't want to get caught at the main entrance so i tried sneaking in. some guys selling water outside the actual gates of the venue said they had friends working security and could sneak my friends and me in. we ended up jumping some fences, and then getting caught by the police who detained me and searched my backpack. i was almost positive i was going to jail for a long time. however, the cop gave me back my backpack and said "i saw your weed and piece man, throw it away and get out of here." i was confused. "don't seem so nervous. nobody gives a shit about weed. it'll be legal in 6 months anyways. all we're looking for is acid and shrooms." a fucking cop said that to me - as he handed my bag with weed in it back to me. things are looking up for stoners everywhere. i guess its also a good thing the cop never found the acid and shrooms that were in the bag too.

after that i decided to just buy a ticket at the box office and successfully got the stuff in through the front gate.

i've never been shoe checked, i thought the sunday guard was going to for sure as he was checking just about everything. do you look like a suspicious person or something? did they just look into your shoes or were they feeling around in there?

i just cant imagine anyone wanting someone else to take off their shoes in 100 degree weather so they can feel around in them for contraband unless they REALLY had reason to

it all seemed so random. one guy in front of me on friday had a full on wallet search, then when they got to me he said yea whatever its cool. my wallet is like a man purse, many compartments and stuffed full of junk. is it just like "search every 10th wallet, every 7th persons shoes, every 3rd backpack super thoroughly" or what?

You want a fucking horror story?

So my friends and I are up against the middle barricade thing during Waters - and around "Wish you were Here" I take a couple puffs on a joint - horrible idea for someone who never smokes and has been drinking and sitting in the sun all day, but it was Waters...so I did it.
5 minutes later I'm feeling pretty woozy, and all of the sudden I black out - next thing I know I'm on the other side of the barricade sitting on the seat with security beside me and my friend accross from me. COMPLETELY out of it. I couldn't lift my head or move.

So the security guy starts with the usual questions "what's your name? How are you feeling? Is this your friend" Then...all of the sudden he says "Can I give you my phone number?" I think I must be tripping and fully hallucinating at this point so I say "what?" and again...he asks if he can give me his number ... I am so confused and out of it that I can't even speak so I just shake my head. 2 minutes later I'm waiting for the EMS to arrive and I see him ask my friend "can I see your phone for a minute?" and programs his fucking number in it.

WHAT THE FUCK?!?!?!

I was BARELY concious...who does that?

i didn't get shoe checked but here's how it went:

friday:

pretty standard, but they guy took away my mask and said no masks allowed. WTF? that's not what it said on the rules page, and plenty of people wear costumes. i didn't feel like arguing. he basically stopped searching when he saw the mask on top. all other contraband got in safely.

saturday:

shirt removed from bag (i though they couldn't touch your stuff, but make you remove it?), checked, quick pat down. contraband still got in.

sunday:

full on, all pockets, camera bag, etc, checked. asked if we were done,no pat down. contraband still got in. (i had a bottle of aspirin in my bag, he kinda looks at it, reads the label, puts it back in, could have been a bottle full of e, lol)

all in all, it doesn't take much to sneak in shit, if you're halfway clever you'll manage to get in practically anything.

shit i saw guys walking around with cans of bud light and my friend saw an empty fifth of captain morgan on the ground. needless to say coachella crowd > meathead marines working security

my friends and i were waiting for gogol bordello to play and we were passing around our piece... some security guy saw us and took it from us. whatever. fine. we had more anyway.

he starts tapping the bowl out against the steel barrier and we tell the guy that he shouldn't be so rough with it because it'll shatter into a million pieces... he looks at us like we're crazy and then THROWS it to the ground.

we kinda freak out a bit, but we really couldn't do anything... then the guy next to us says to the guard "dude, you're fucking awesome... gimme a high five!!" the guard goes to high-five him and the guy pulls his hand away and yells "PSYCH!!! fucking ******"

they pulled him out... don't really know what happened to him but that kid was fucking great.

On Sat night my group was sitting right outside the Sahara tent during Junkie XL's set directly next to one of the side openings closest to the stage. I guess a bunch of people were sneaking into the backstage area because all of the sudden a whole bunch of people came out of there at the same time. There was a girl and a guy standing right next to where I was sitting on the ground and I heard this conversation between them:
girl: "Dude, I think one of those guys in there was a cop"
guy: "What do you mean? How do you know?"
girl: "Because he saw you give me the ... (couldn't make out exactly what she was said)"

I kinda laughed in my head thinking they were probably trippin, cause I've been there too. They sit down in a group probably ten feet away from me and I forget about them. Right around the same time, these two guys jam up quick against the tent directly behind two of my friends, and I thought I was about to watch a deal go down and was thinking how totally not low-pro these guys were being. They're kinda whispering to eachother and then out of nowhere the run really fast through my group of friends kicking over one of our backpacks in the way, and tackle the guy (the one mentioned in the above conversation) in the group behind me to the ground and started handcuffing him. So the two guys against the tent were undercovers (and fucking GOOD undercovers too, I would have NEVER thought they were cops, hell, I actually thought I was about to watch the two of THEM throw down a deal right in front of me), and suddenly there were a good six or seven other security and cops hovering over that little group behind me going through everyone's backpacks and pockets. One of the cops points to the girl that had been standing next to me and says "That's her" and tell her to open up her backpack. They take a clear plastic bag off the top, then stand her up and cuff her too.

I immediately turned to my boyfriend and said, "Thank GOD I didn't end up eating those mushrooms!"

I've seen people get busted, but not so close to me, and not where I was so tuned in to it from the start. Security was fuckin sneaky all Sat, it was all I could do not to let the paranoia bug take me over.

There were no Marines in yellow.

The marines were in yellow or in tan T-shirts depending on the shifts that they were working. We were camped right next to where they were "training" them or basically telling them what to do and what not to do. They were mellow around us though...

most mellowest security out of all the coachellas i've been to. I took in my camelback, food, and a video camera. No pat down either.

on saturday while getting my bag checked a security double looked my bag and reached for my bag of baby wipes saying in a douchey manner "well..well..well..what do we have here?" i replied "..whipies" fucking douche bag. it's one thing to look to make sure i didn't have a shit load of cocaine, but it's another to say the annoynig "well well well" bullshit.
