What is the oldest thing you have that is yours, not something handed down from your mom and dad or anything like that … a toy, a letter, some clothes … things like that .. I am asking because I was told to clean up my area at work and I have memo’s from my work dated 10/81 :) … my oldest thing is a couple of steel toy trucks that were mine probably around 1953 … as I have my headphones on listening to Year Zero you can skip the old man flack … cr*****

As far as stuff that's mine, I've got the blanket I was wrapped in when I was born, so that's about as far back as I can go with something given straight to me.

I've also got a mandolin that was made in the mid 18th century that's been passed down my family. It's made in the spanish Lute style and the sound is amazing on it. My parents have a family quilt that has been passed down generations since we came to the US (on my Mom's mother's side) in the 1600s, and we've got a few instruments and paintings from my mom's side of the family that have been in the family since the spanish first came to California and "founded" Los Angeles.

It's an authentic '52 with all the original hardware. It has the luthier's initials and date written on the neck (where it joins the body). I bought it 20-some years ago. The prior owner had rescued it out of a scrap heap and chose to refinish it. He painstakingly tried to recreate the original translucent butterscotch finish but it came out a little more "creamy." It would be even better with a naturally aged original finish. But it's still a great piece, and I play it all the time.

My '66 Electric 12 is my first vintage guitar. It is in pretty good shape, except for some paint chips and dents and the fact the previous owner thought it would be cool to scratch his name in the metal in the back. It sounds great though, so I have no real complaints.
