Naturally this is just one mans opinion, and I ask you to list your own favorite,
but for me no other song fits as pitch-perfect as
The Dandy Warhols' "Godless"

(Mp3 of the song here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/k766jm )

Seems perfect for that stretch of the drive when you come over the hill and are all-of-sudden surrounded by windmills.

Whats your choice?

I love the windmills, pretty much only thing out there worth seeing. I drive out there just to see them somtimes.

As for a song, I can't pick one, but I am quite partial to the Works of Ryan Adams for drives through sparce desert scenery. He's normally on when I head out to Vegas.

This is the way
That the windmill goes round:
High, then low;
High, then low;
Brushing the sky
And the air and the ground,
High, then low;
High, then low.

Arms spreading wide
In the soft summer breeze:
Round they go;
Round they go;
Fanning the fields
And the flowers and trees,
Round they go;
Round they go.

I've always come through the mountains on highway 76 to 79 to 371 north east of San Diego County so I miss the windmills, but it's a pretty trippy drive. Last year I came to Coachella through the mountains at about dusk listening to Dungen and almost drove off the side of a cliff. I kind of just spaced out with the music blaring in my truck and wasn't really paying that much attention to the road. In any case I made it to the show just fine and I have all intentions of doing the same this year; minus the space out.

I'm not sure. I'll have to go watch DIG again to find out.

BJM was definitely all pissy - they did not look like they were having a good time. They looked exactly the same way in 1999 while watching The Super Furry Animals. (again also with Danny Masterson nearby)

weird

The dinos are a couple miles west of the windmills [off the I-10] in the Cabazon area. I've never actually stopped to see them, but maybe I will this month. http://www.roadsideamerica.com/attract/CACABdinny.html

Thanks for this thread! I have to listen to GusGus every time I drive by the windmills [unless its at night and you can only see the little lights on them]. It is hands-down my favorite part of driving from Phoenix to L.A. I still stop and take photos like a lunatic every few trips. It's the little things...

I have been wishing for a couple years that someone would go with me on a tour of that windfarm. I've had people promise me a few times and then flake [it's like Coachella really!]. I think it would make such an EXCELLENT date.
