Even though I think we know the answer (considering triple the amount of people attended the festival from 04-06 compared to 99, this makes the results a little pre-deteremined)

Possibly, let's find out.

Too bad all those Wayne C. antics cut their set way too short.

you could add:

Basement Jaxx 04
Air 04
Tool 99
Libertines (second try, following day in Mojave)
SFA 99
Queens 02 (with D Grohl on drums)
Belle and Sebastian 03
St Germain 01

I voted Lamb to give them some love. Their performance in 99 was AMAZING, although I think only me and C Dub Ya are left to testify to it. I wish I could see them live again, but I think they're probably broken up by now.

Basment Jaxx was great, and so were Arcade Fire...but Daft Punk trumped all including Pixies and Radiohead. I was in the first tier of the crowd, right up front for the entire show...simply AMAZING!

c dub ya,

do you mean B & S in 02 - the Outdoor Stage, because that was pretty good.

On my vote though (Daft 06) I would have it as a tie with The Pixiesm, simply amazing and didn't miss a beat after almost 10 years!

I voted for Pixies 2004 given that list, but I also would have added Air 2004. Their set wasn't necessarily that much better than The Pixies (The Pixies were one of the main reasons I attended), but given the timing (a sunset performance), it was amazing.

No - I am not - the political rants between every song brought the set way down in most attendees eyes. I think it did anyway, that's what I've always heard.

daft punk is prolly gonna get it. I mena a lot of people were amazaed...the light show alone....not to mention...
the coolness of it wasnt jsut the lights or the music....but that itwas daft punk's 2nd tour ever...there last one being 9 years before coachella, and they decided to start off playing at coachella. Maybe if you put madonna up there, she would beat out DP ..... even though she started late...left early...and played 4 songs

oh whoa wait! you sohuld start a poll of worst performance by a headliner..... hahah

Well they both were amazing - you saw a dandy, no doubt. Crowd was amazing, the green lazers going off to King of Snake was MENTAL! But I don't like the 100 material nearly as much as the other records, in 99, there was no such material in the setlist. We even got Bruce Lee!!!!

Video projections in 99 were the same as the ones on the Everything Everything DVD, so, very cool. It was also nice in 99 because they were outdoors and it gave it a different experience than the usual tent thing.

I put my faves like this:
Underworld 99
Daft Punk 06
Underworld 03
Arcade Fire 05
Lamb 99
Belle and Sebastian 02

Daft Punk set the bar incredibly high for any other act to strive to become or be as mindblowing. Being true to their fans and themselves they put on one of the best performances I've experienced in my 15 years of concert going. I would travel just about anywhere to see them. Thank you Daft Punk for your creativity & being the crowning jewel of last years event.

Of what I've seen:
1. Radiohead 04 (I've seen better Radiohead performances, but come on, Thom was just coming off a nasty throat infection and still sounded great, and even the worst Radiohead performance beats anything else)
2. Daft Punk 06 (once-in-a-lifetime treat...perferct mix of awesome music, mind-blowing visuals, and EVERYONE dancing and having the time of their lives)
3. Pixies 04 (such a legendary reunion and the Pixies have never sounded better than they did at Coachella)
4. Sigur Ros 06 (Hafsol -> Untitled 8 = best one-two punch ever)
5. Arcade Fire 05 (after seeing them at the Troubadour a few months prior, I knew they would own a festival crowd, for no stage can contain that energy, and I was right)
6. Dresden Dolls 05
7. Metric 06
8. Tool 06
9. Massive Attack 06
10. Nine Inch Nails 05

bauhaus did it for me. didn't know what to expect and they blew me away.

flaming lips 04 was a great time, besides the bubble thing I loved the furry dancing animals on stage with balls bouncing everywhere.

also should mention the bravery, with their bass player chugging a 12 pack of beers on stage in 40 minutes or less and their equipment melting in that tent.

be your own pet was admirable. i wonder if that girl singer gets a headache.

Normally they would be on there - their 2001 performance was much better. The 2006 Sigur Ros show I saw did not compare to the 4 shows before the Coachella set, it just wasn't even close to how good they can be. They looked a bit worn out.

There have been som egreat shows and I think I enjoyed Daft Punk last year the most. Great having the extra sceens outside of the Sahara tent and having a bigger tent with more cooling. I think Fischerspooner and a few others could be on there! I can honestly say that every show has been worth running from one place to another for! Counting down the days for this year! I hope everyone has a great time!

While reading through this thread, I started listening to Daft Punk on Rhapsody. In the top right corner, the program scrolls through factoids about the band being played and here is what Rhapsody says about Daft Punk... "Daft Punk's triumphant 2006 Coachella performance is widely thought
to be one of the most impressive live shows ever."

I mean, who can argue with a factoid???

I can symphathize.I left during the Clash's last show ever(at the Us Festival in '83) and also heard Smashing Pumpkins from the parking lot at one of the Lollapaloozas. That is why I'm camping this year,so I don't have to worry about beating traffic/getting too tired to drive.

'99 was better by a long shot! that should be an option, instead of 2006. nothing like naked contortionists hanging from the rafters. not to mention it was back when they would end their shows with jerk-off. now theres a way to close a festival!
