Mick Jagger says Rolling Stones are not playing Coachella
Jan. 21, 2013, 3:41 PM EST
WENN

Mick Jagger has killed fans' dreams of catching the Rolling Stones at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in California this spring, insisting it's "too early" for the rockers to consider.

Reports suggesting the reunited supergroup would be headlining the annual Indio event swirled in December when a post on the band's touring app hinted that Coachella would be a possibility for 2013.

Bing: Rolling Stones' 50 and Counting tour ticket sales

Insiders have since suggested such a gig is unlikely, and now Jagger himself has announced the Stones will not be playing there, as organizers prepare to release the lineup.

The singer tells the NME, "We're not gonna do Coachella 'cause it's too early. There was a rumor we were gonna do that one, but it's very early, Coachella. It's April or something, isn't it? And we're not gonna be ready to go by April."

But he has confirmed there will be dates in 2013, adding, "We're not gonna stop." The Rolling Stones reformed last year for five dates to mark the group's 50th anniversary.

I think Coachella had the Rolling Stones in their plans...thus the photo of the rock/ball in the field add to it the second photo that matches the logo on the rolling stones app + the Rolling Stones app added Coachella as an official tour date.

My bet is that they thought they had them locked up, but shit somehow hit the fan and they have been searching for a major replacement band.

Due to the late release of the schedule and every other statement above my hunch is that they had a deal in place and somehow one of the parties broke out of the deal and Paul and Co. have been searching for the replacement.

For christ sake that photo is a polo ball. Has Coachella ever given hints as to who's headlining?

EXACTLY. It was a POLO BALL.

It may have been a polo ball, but consider the picture of the dragon mouth is 100% match with the Rolling Stones app pict
Add to it the stones placed Coachella directly on their tour dates (pictures confirm)

This is simply a deal where Coachella had a MAJOR band and they dropped out. They have to find aMAJOR band to replace

Phx isn't even the same world as the stones.

They'd have to get the who, pearl jam or roger waters doing the wall to be close.

note: I have no idea if this is the exact dragon mouth app thingy that baily is talking about. But it is a dragon mouth associated with the rolling stones. actually, it's the whole dragon, with the RS lips-and-tongue logo superimposed so as to create the illusion of a dragon mouth. Also it seems to be standing on top of some sort of stadium.

malcolmjamalawesome

wrong.

They are playing?

And how exactly did the negotiations break down?

Mick said April is too early. Does that mean he wanted them to hold Coachella some other time? They agreed to do it but wanted too much money?

Seems like it always more of a faith based issue, faith on behalf of the Coachella audience that they would be there.

The one on coachella matches this one

match up the mouth on this one to the coachella facebook page...it's damn close.

and deny all you want, but the band The Rolling Stones just doesn't accidental post a tour date.

ok....off topic ...but you right.

I think the real problem Paul and Co is having is getting a major band to play both weekends. Paying anyone for one gig is no big deal if you've got the cash, but to keep them around town for a 2nd show is where I think they're running into issues.

Come on - there's too many dots not to connect them. Rolling Stones dropped off the festival....thus we are still waiting to find another to be a major headline act.

It's not gonna look good if the Rolling Stones admit there were 'issues' and they backed out and eventually they are replaced by some 1/2 act like one direction.

I have heard from someone that works with GV that they are too far apart as to how much GV is willing to pay, and how much the stones want to play. Bummer, oh well. Glad I have already seen them or I'd be pretty bummed.

If this is all true, that makes three "classic rock" headliners canceling in the past four years. Maybe it's time to ditch the classic rock headliner...they are just unreliable.

when all the hoopla started with the stones 'leak' and the quick attempt to recover, then the cchella 'ball/rolling stone' pic that followed, i was hopeful. but when the official news about them not playing came out, i figured that cchella might have tried to discipline them for the leak, and the stones f**ked them back.
as for the rock headliner - the who would be amazing but they are on tour already and playing soon - i cant wait...

The Who play everywhere all the time. They are good, but not who (pun not intended) I want to see at the festival. I would most likely watch another band in one of the side stages at that point.

No one with the Stones organization was actually behind the tour dates on the app either.

It was never going to happen.

I'm going to go "Yes" on them headlining. Why would Mick even bother addressing this kind of "rumor" if there was nothing there? Stirring it up.
