until 3 days ago, i thought i was a good get.

now i think the money could easily be spent better elsewhere, and the options are vast. get 6 headliners (or 12 Coachella headliners) for the price of one.

or Paulvana & friends.

i can't stop thinking of all the acts GV could've booked for the Stones' fee..

the fest could prob pay the fines to go to 2am every night and still lose less money than they're paying the Stones to play a concert that would've easily sold out without them..

We don't know how much they are getting paid... bzzzzzzzzz

They wouldn't be booking The Stones to guarantee a sellout this year. They would book them because it would be a huge coup to land arguably the biggest band on the planet and it increases their prestige and brings even more media attention to the festival.

This. At this point, the point of each years lineup is to sell out the following year.

I think it is more the stones are trying to be relvent to a younger generation than the money aka U2 at Glastonbury.

Yes. But we can assume they ARE getting paid something.

And their quote is higher than anybody else that GV has ever booked for Chella (aside from Prince, the last year coachella lost money)

Didn't Paul McCartney get something like 4 or 5 million in 2009?

i've heard bumblebee claim it but i don't believe it for a second. he played the next night at the Joint in Vegas, and with capacity x ticket cost he had to have gotten less than 1.2 million for that show.

i believe that quote came from what was made off his Giants stadium gig, which was him solo at about chella ticket prices.

Media reports at the time had Prince/Paul in the $3-4m range.

Stadium gigs are minus their own staging costs and venue rental. Expenses that acts don't worry about at Festivals.

There's "prestige" bookings in Vegas venues all the time where they overpay for acts. They think they can make it up on VIP, scalping, the tables, alcohol and room rentals. Paul also accepted some last minute vegas arena booking 8-10 years ago when a major fight fell thru and the strip wanted some big "event" that weekend.

Based on other acts we've seen confirmed or strongly rumored...Booking the Stones, if it indeed happens, doesn't seem to be hurting the potential quality of the lineup at all.

In fact, probably got some bands jumping at chance to be on same bill as Stones. Just have a feeling the 10-20 older/reunion acts on this bill will be fantastic.

Just hope Stone Roses are there too, reviews of their past summer shows were fantastic.

This exactly. They could probably get bands that would demand more to play for less knowing they were on the same lineup as The Rolling Stones.

Look at who they to come on stage and guest with them at the america shows they did. Bruce, Lady GaGa. I can't remember the other one. But they as a band you would think could pretty much get whoever they wanted to appear.

indeed it was.

i reckon if the festival do have mumford play, they'd not even question a sub slot to the stones.

though i do reckon if them and eminem are playing, the 3rd may be a lesser band slightly.

I saw the Stones in 2005 at Angel Stadium and it was a good show. I would much rather have GV spend that money elsewhere, but I get it.

I'll probably be in the Mojave acting all weird anyway.
