View Full Version : Terrible Personalities Making Good Music?

I like Doom's music and will definitely buy his future releases.
But he is an asshole to send impostors to his live shows.

The Gallagher brothers of Oasis were notorious for being hard to get along with.

Who else disgusts you in person but then attracts you by their music?

I'd say Morrissey but he makes terrible music. Same with Billy Joel.

I would have said Axl Rose before he appeared on Kimmel and seemed somewhat affable in his old age.

Varg's manifesto of denouncing Christianity for the atrocities Christians comimitted against ancient Nordic civilization was brilliant in establishing the band and the scene. Unfortunately & sadly the world had to lose some priceless works of ancient architecture as a result of the miniscule amount of power & control he had over a few select sheep.

I met Thom Yorke outside of a Starbucks in LA. I was only able to have a brief convo with him but he was a chill guy.

What's terrible about his personality?

Wasn't the nicest guy when I met him, and he simply ignored a couple people who thanked him for playing. It definitely wasn't because he didn't hear them either, because he did cast a glance their way and just kept walking. He could just be ultra-shy, but I spoke to him for a couple minutes and I left with kind of a bad taste in my mouth.

If you're speaking about Until the Light takes Us, then I agree. First half of the documentary he seemed like a very intelligent, cool dude (I'd even bro out with him). Then he started telling stories about his past, and his beliefs...

LickTheLizzard

That is the movie I saw. I agree he came across as likable in the beginning. They didn't really get into all the church burning until much later in the film.

Black Joe Lewis is an asshole. He also called Gary Clark Jr. and his guitar playing "pedestrian." I should have informed him that he sounded extremely bitter.

Maynard

He has a very warped sense of humor and is super-shy, but I've never heard of him being MEAN to people off stage. He requests heavy handed security at but it's on his dime and he's given a understandable reason that has stayed consistent.

They will kick themselves in the future for not taping/filming more shows, I think a couple shows in 2002 is it.

Yes. This fucking guy. We carry his wine and he came to a few stores of mine for wine bottle signings. He had a very heavy security detail. They told me not to look at him as he was walking by. I ended up buying a case of his wine that was all signed, drank all the wine, and sold the bottles on ebay for $100 a pop. But yeah, he is kind of a dick. Especially to those I was working with.

Cute. Ulver and Windir would probably not have fully developed their sounds if not for what Varg did with the early Burzum material, and if you're a fan of Black Metal I think it's pretty hard to ignore the fact that Hvis Lyset Tar Oss is a masterpiece of the genre. Sure Ulver might have put out some comparable (I wouldn't agree they blow anything by Burzum away) work but it wasn't as essential to the genre as Burzum.

I imagine he has had some freaky fans that have crossed the line. Even some club level indie acts have "watch lists" of oddball fans/stalkers.

No eye-contact is usually a sign of someone high-strung. Maybe he doesn't want people looking at the mohawk that he glues onto his head.

brian Joestown massacre is just a miserable band. And that guy said in an interview "I'm like daniel day lewis" I will bring a sling shot to the next bjm show I see So I can peg that chain smoking, too tight of vneck wearing, indie captain hat donning excuse of a fat as fuck tambourine player. I'll do it. I hate this band so much. They're also cock blocks as they induce everyone in the audience into some sort of collective heroine nod. I swear to god if your chick is listening to this music she won't be able to orgasm for like two weeks.
