Rumors season has started, and since no one has decided to start the annual thread, I thought I would give this one a go. I will do my very best to stay on top of this, but let the magic begin!

NOTE: If you think you have a rumor or confirmation to post, but you are not sure if someone already has, please use the "advanced search" on the search thread tab at the top of each page of the thread. You will save the rest of us a lot of redundancy. Thank you.

To be fair too, the biggest leak that everybody looked over last year was that guy who dropped ATDI/Refused on Twitter. Not saying Facebook is legitimate that often, but sometimes the social media leaks do end up being right.

What I think is interesting is that there have been several rumblings about Trent Reznor and Daft Punk in conjunction. Right before the lineup dropped last year, Pachucasunrise said he ran into a friend of Trent Reznor's at a party, who said Trent (in HTDA) and Daft Punk were going to play Coachella. Obviously that did not take place.

http://www.coachella.com/forum/showthread.php?49989-2012-Lineup-Confirmations-Rumors-Thread&p=2344632&highlight=trent+reznor+daft+punk+party#post2344632

But then Monklish, who admittedly is just marginally more legitimate than my grandmother at Coachella predictions, says that he/she/Supre believed that the headliners would be Phoenix/Nine Inch Nails/Daft Punk. Which could have easily been pulled from that thread, of course. Then there are Daft Punk rumblings about festival dates, which to be fair there are every year and are only slightly more concrete than usual, and now this, which to be fair could entirely be pulled out from your ass. The logical answer is that it is coincidental and made up and we will get Green Day/Justin Bieber/The Monkees for 2013. But the conspiracy theorist in me wonders if Trent and Daft were not in talks for 2012, when the boardie heard that rumor, but for 2013 instead. If the friend wasn't super close to Trent, just casual friends, they could have misunderstood that "in talks to play Coachella" a week before the lineup dropped is probably an indicator for next year, not this.

Flame away. I hate what this time of year does to me.

k.

I have some actual tour dates. Nothing serious. But I think we can all agree Alt-J is definitely in the running for a Coachella band this year. These dates kinda maybe could look that way as well. This is just me reaching of course.

They've got this North American tour they're on now, opening for Grouplove mostly (except for a few dates).

09/21 - Chicago, IL - Empty Bottle
09/22 - Minneapolis, MN -Triple Rock
09/25 - Portland, OR - Roseland Theatre *
09/26 - Seattle, WA - Moore Theatre*
09/29 - Los Angeles, CA - Bootleg Theatre
09/30 - Santa Ana, CA - Constellation Room w/ Blood Red Shoes (on sale July 23)
10/01 - San Francisco, CA - The Fillmore *
10/04 - Las Vegas, NV - The Pool - The Cosmopolitan*
10/08 - St. Louis, MO - Pageant *
10/09 - Tulsa, OK - Cain's Ballroom*
10/11 - Houston, TX - House of Blues *
10/12 - Helotes, TX - Josabis*
10/13 - Dallas, TX - House of Blues *
10/14 - Austin, TX - Austin City Limits Festival
* - w/ Grouplove

Then they go to Europe for a while (dates until the end of November and then two more in January 2013).

Thennnn I just noticed these dates (posted here (http://www.clashmusic.com/news/alt-j-2013-tour-dates) in APRIL of 2012 HMMM) for Europe in May of 2013.

May 2013
5 Birmingham O2 Academy
6 Glasgow O2 ABC
8 Newcastle O2 Academy
9 Manchester Academy
10 Leeds O2 Academy
11 Liverpool Academy
13 Nottingham Rock City
14 Cambridge Corn Exchange
15 Bristol O2 Academy
16 London O2 Brixton Academy'

So yeah. Obviously, this is nothing. But is it something? Probably.

Oh hell, this is gonna make me look like a weird internet stalker, but oh well.

I'm not on these boards very often so I don't know you all very well, but a few months ago a poster named Menik said something along the lines of hearing a 2013 headliner mentioned through the grapevine, and a bunch of other posters responded as if they assumed he was legit. He made a few comments about being disappointed and really hoping what he heard was wrong. I noticed the same guy post on the Australia Big Day Out thread, saying that that lineup went along with what he heard regarding 2013... I assumed he was talking about a return for The Killers, or a Yeah Yeah Yeahs headliner promotion, or that it was just nonsense. But maybe he was hinting at the Chili Peppers... It's hard to believe - I just can't imagine GV would care enough about a third RHCP headlining spot that they'd make sure and have them booked up a year in advance.

So there you go- take that added bit of heresay and throw it down the rumor mill with the rest.

A Green Day/RHCP headliner combo possibility doesn't have me optimistic.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I%27m_With_You_World_Tour
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mylo_Xyloto_Tour

RHCP would have already played most North American markets by then, with 2 notable exceptions: Nevada and Mexico. If your wondering what they might do with a week off.

This brings up a topic I've seen hinted at here and elsewhere a couple times. "Back up headliners" when promoters chase some big fish who might pull out before announcement like Prince/Who/Sabbath. GV did land some exclusive headliners with Prince, RAGE and Dre and to a lesser extent Jane's/Gorillaz. Look at the Coldplay/RHCP links and they could have been headliners in 2012(April 13-15/20-22) with a couple shuffled dates - Foo Fighters/Bjork also have both weekends open last year.

U2/Springsteen each turned down Glastonbury offers for over 30 years. U2 even cancelled TWICE.

if the rumours of The Who coming to terms then cancelling Coachella in December 2009 are true, I could see them being "blacklisted".

The Killers' tour is being promoted by Goldenvoice.

That to me is a huge indicator for Coachella 2013. Especially after that comment about Australia outside lands (sorry if that's not the name of the tour - but you know what I mean)

Anyone who is playing in Los Angeles with Goldenvoice promoting is a very good sign. That's why I'm skeptical about Fiona Apple...

Two things, despite this being obviously fake:

1. Why the fuck has Armin van Buuren appeared on every fake lineup since 2010?

2. Eric Prydz on Friday and Pryda on Sunday? They're the same person, playing the same music. Eric Prydz plays mostly Pryda tracks, actually.

Eva Cassidy (listed on the Saturday of that poster) die in 1996. I don't think anyone's developing a hologram of her.

Also The Smashing Pumpkins cancelled their show at Rogers Arena in Vancouver (home of arguably one of their best ever shows back in 1997) apparently due to low ticket sales. So unless it's a reunion with all the original members the Pumpkins headlining is laughable.

doesnt seem like a full tour is on Matt's radar...... but a "one off" is possible.

“After I play like, I don’t know, two hours with Soundgarden, my day is done,” Cameron said. “I think when we did the PJ20 show Chris came out to that and we played some Temple of the Dog stuff and it was awesome.”

Cameron went on to suggest that a one-time concert bringing together the famed bands could happen, but it’s all up in the air: “Maybe there might be a one off where that could happen, but I’m not 25 anymore.”

A friend of mine knows this guy that does the booking for some Goldenvoice owned venus in LA and Pomona, and he said that Daft Punk and GV were finalizing the details on their booking contract for next years Coachella. From what he said, the details are minor and, if all goes favorably, they should be signing the contract before the end of next week.

That said, he's told me about other artists beforehand in years past and he's been on the mark. Around this time last year, he mentioned that Radiohead, At the Drive-In, Refused, and Pulp were playing this years Coachella.

I am praying for Daft Punk. Clearly (most) everyone is, but I'm all for it moreso in the hope that having DP as a headliner would eliminate Coachella's urge to cram some ultra-shitty EDM artist on the mainstage post-headliner one night. Unless they had the balls to still find a way to cram Skrillex or Pretty Lights or Deadmau5 up there, in which case, well-played, Goldenvoice.

Skrillex closing after the headliner? are you shitting me!? Pretty Lights it's not big enough (yet) and Deadmau5 would be awesome, I actually can see this happening.

Since you seem unable to process, grasp and/or effectively communicate your thoughts in basic English, let me try this again:

A) For the past three years, Goldenvoice has showcased a high-profile EDM artist on the mainstage.
B) There hasn't ever been two mainstage EDM artists in the same year.
C) In two of these three years (2010 and 2012) Goldenvoice has shown a willingness to cram a shitty EDM artist on the mainstage (see Swedish House Mafia, Tiesto).

Now, assuming that we follow the trend of "A" (and that there will be an EDM artist on the mainstage this year), and also assuming that "B" holds true (that there will only be one EDM artist to play mainstage, while the rest are in the Sahara and Mojave), the presence of Daft Punk as a headliner would likely preclude any of the aforementioned shit EDM acts (Skrillex, deadmau5, etc.) from taking up a key stage spot, and would instead likely relegate their bro-stepping oontzness to the Sahara, where we can all fist pump along and wait for the drop and take our shirts off and totally gay out but its not really gay because we're bros, and being gay with each other is totally gross unless you really want to in which case ill try anything bros whoops no that was just the molly talking bro please dont tell the rest of Sig Chi about this.

Actually there were two main stage EDM acts this year with SHM and Justice.

Since that's what's popular nowadays, I wouldn't be surprised to see three next year.

Mumford & Sons -> Tiesto or The Fiver
Skrillex->RHCP
Blur->Daft Punk

Thanks Concertgoer for not flaming me. This board can be a tad intimidating.

Yeah, I remember reading that. Thing is, I can't remember if it was here on the board or in an interview somewhere, but the reason, allegedly, that Daft Punk said no to both of those years was because they didn't have a proper album out to promote. They had the Tron soundtrack (Was it either one those years?) but that had the Disney name attached to it, and they wanted to tour behind something that was strictly theirs. Like I said, I can't remember if I read that somewhere on here, or in an interview somewhere. I'll have to look that up later.

NicolasMata look at my join date. October 2011. I was new to the board then.

I can understand them not wanting to tour under the Disney name. I know for a long while Disney Ca adventure had the "electronica" nights. Maybe they wanted to separate themselves from that as well?

"Blur have announced that they will be headlining Rock Werchter festival in Belgium next year.

The Britpop icons, who reformed this year for a string of intimate UK live dates culminating in a massive show in Hyde Park to celebrate the closing of the London 2012 Olympic Games, also hinted that they will play more dates in 2013.

"Thank you for waiting," wrote the band on their Facebook page. "Rock Werchter is about to announce that Blur will headline next July. We're excited.. hope to travel in 2013 to play to more of our lovely fans who we haven't seen for a while. Don't know where yet, we'll tell as soon as we do."

The festival takes place next year (2013) between July 4 – 7. Rock Werchter is Belgium's biggest rock festival with a capacity of 140,000. The only other headliners confirmed so far are Rammstein.

It is not yet clear whether the band will be playing any more new material for future live dates. Blur penned two new tracks – 'Under The Westway' and 'The Puritan' – for the Hyde Park shows, and the band have hinted that more could follow, with producer William Orbit telling NME earlier this year that the band had been in the studio working on new material with him. Yeah, not to balk at acknowledged boardie inside info, but RHCP makes so little sense I have a hard time believing it’s actually true. They’d be supporting an album that was released 2 years earlier, and everyone on earth with an interest in seeing them live will have had ample opportunity over the preceding 18 months. They’re probably more expensive – and less of a draw – than other KROQ friendly acts who have actually released albums recently enough that people still care.

Not doubting the board member who brought it up, but maybe the source was pulling his leg and/or ill-informed. It just makes no sense that THAT'S the act they’d have all booked up a whole year in advance.

Agreed, especially on the source either fucking around or being mistaken. RHCP headlined this year's Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, and will be doing ACL. Yeah, the Black Keys headlined practically every festival this year but they started with Coachella. RHCP would be ending their US festival headlining parade with Coachella. That, on top of the fact that they've already headlined Coachella twice and don't have another new album to promote (unless one is in the pipeline that I'm not privy to because I don't give a shit about following RHCP outside of verifying which US festivals they've headlined this year), just gives me a lot of doubt that they're going to be on the poster come January.

Both arguments as to who was the replacement seem valid. However looking at the poster it makes more sense thatdre and snoop were the replacements. Justice > atdi > black sabbath Sunday with Pulp > black keys > shm on Friday is logistically and promotionally a better look than pulp > dre & snoop > shm. It's hard to imagine having shm close after dre and snoop, especially with the tupac hologram. That just seems anti climatic and against the convention. over the last 3 years No edm act played after tje rap headliner, rather they've been bundled with the contemporary rock band

I have to wonder if Dre aquired a profit sharing deal considering he already had a deal with burning Man and if he indeed had the bargaining power of being last minute booking. Also, Snoop already had the Austrian gig booked during W1 which eventually got cancelled in January 2012 because of a pot bust.

Makes me wonder what possible 2013 headliners(not named The Smiths) would get the big money and which would be the "cheaper" options. Where does Daft Punk fit on the money spectrum?

"FIRST CLASS AT COACHELLA: There’s plenty of chatter about Radiohead being offered a percentage of gross receipts to convince them to play two shows at this year’s expanded, sold-out Coachella. The festival’s talent budget reportedly swelled to more than $30 million, which is just a fraction of the overhead to put on the massive event. Whether or not they received backend, weekend headliners Radiohead and Dr. Dre/Snoop Dogg reportedly scored $4 million paydays for the two shows, with $2 million apiece going to Friday co-headliners The Black Keys and Swedish House Mafia. Sources say Goldenvoice chief Paul Tollett sold 180,000 tickets for the two weekends at an average of $300 a pop, earning the company a whopping $54 million gross. Last year’s festival drew 75,000 per day for a then-record total of $24.9 million, up from 2010’s $21.7 million. (4/17p)"
