Those are all good songs. But, you know, they just don't matter. Not like a dinosaur rock band who has lost most of their original members and hasn't cut a good record in 30 years, a fringe AOR band who is an acquired taste at best, and a band whose primary members have barely spoken with each other since 1982.

BANDS THAT MATTER!

Graham Parker and the Rumour, who collaborated on an incendiary series of albums in the 1970s and early ’80s, have reunited to make Parker’s latest record and will appear as a unit in Judd Apatow’s next film.

In an interview posted today on MusicFilmWeb.com, Rumour drummer Steve Goulding describes how a music documentary in progress on Parker led indirectly to the quintet rejoining their former frontman this past spring to record the album Three Chords Good, due out next year.

When Apatow, a Parker fan, subsequently asked the singer to appear in This Is Forty, a spinoff of Knocked Up now in production, Parker brought the Rumour into the project. Their performance was shot last week in Los Angeles, where Goulding talked to MFW by phone during a break in rehearsals.

The documentary, Don’t Ask Me Questions, made by Michael Gramaglia (co-director of the acclaimed Ramones doc End of the Century), was slated to be finished last fall after a successful Kickstarter campaign. Goulding said filming has been extended to take in the new developments, which he expects to juice interest in the doc:

"They were having problems getting [the original version] accepted into festivals, showcases, basically because Graham is this moderately successful figure. He’s not really incredibly weird, like Daniel Johnston or something like that, and he not hugely successful like U2. He’s in that middle ground, so I think people really weren’t that interested. But now I think it’s a much more unusual story, there’s a lot more to it. Now the story’s definitely weird."

Drawn from veterans of England’s punk-precursor pub rock scene, the Rumour joined Parker in 1975 and backed him during a fertile period that produced the albums Howlin’ Wind, Heat Treatment, Stick to Me, Squeezing Out Sparks (#335 on Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 greatest albums), and The Up Escalator before breaking up in 1981.

Goulding said that after he, guitarist Martin Belmont, and keyboard player Bob Andrews joined Parker to perform (as the Kippington Lodge Social Club) at a New York preview of the documentary in October, Parker recruited the other original members of the Rumour – guitarist Brinsley Schwarz and bassist Andrew Bodnar – to play on the new album for a “full-on” reunion. The Apatow film following was “a complete, out of the blue, very weird coincidence,” he said.

This Is Forty, expected to come out in June 2012, centers around the married couple played by Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann in Knocked Up. Jason Segal, John Lithgow, and Albert Brooks are also in the cast.

Goulding, who did brief stints with Gang of Four, Roxy Music, and other bands in the early 1980s before joining the Mekons in 1985, offers more details on the Rumour reunion, the Apatow film, and the upcoming Mekons documentary in his interview for MFW’s The Ask.

This is an "old" act I would really like to see. There should be a festival for seasoned groups to keep people from suggesting a lot of these acts for Coachella. Santana, to me, is major. Too old to headline, and far too substantial to play Coachella if he's not headlining. Same goes for Neil Young. These acts are cut from a far different, far superior cloth. They don't belong at a festival where e-tards are frequently found at the wrong stage in between acts. They belong at Oldchella, where people show up for the aged acts, and can properly appreciate them.

Instead, I'll take Bob Mould Band ("The Descent" is a total earworm). I'd also steal the Fugazi suggestion.

Basically, give me any band that has sac and melody (Redd Kross, Superchunk, early Nick Lowe, etc). I'm so sick of the herky-jerky wuss, keyboards and hand-dancing of today.

I disagree on so many levels. Sure there are young kids wandering aimlessly but who cares?? Some of the most best concerts I've seen were "older" acts... Prince, Roger Waters, Paul Weller. That's what I love about Coachella! You can see bands like that and then go to another stage to see up and coming talent. Besides that, maybe the younger crowd can gain appreciation for bands that have been around. When I was watching the Buzzcocks play last year there were tons of young teenagers singing along.

Besides that, maybe the younger crowd can gain appreciation for bands that have been around. When I was watching the Buzzcocks play last year there were tons of young teenagers singing along.

Prince and Roger Waters aren't too big for Coachella. That's what you fail to realize. Prince has, arguably, one or two good albums. Roger Waters is PART of a great band that no longer exists. Did Paul Weller or the Buzzcocks headline? Neil Young could easily play a four hour set. Have you ever seen a headliner at Coachella play a four hour set? Now you're trying to tell me that Neil Young is comparable to any COACHELLA headliners in drawing power? We've all heard the stories of him headlining other venues. Cool stories, lil bros. Go ahead and tell them again. If you have SMH vs. Neil Young. Chemical Brothers vs. Neil Young. Deadmau5 vs. Neil Young. Any major non-DP EDM act will overthrow him as a headliner, if they're put on any other stage at the same time as him. Paul McCartney, on the other hand. Roger Waters, on the other hand. Prince, on the other hand. Is it starting to make any sense to you? Neil Young has practically no airplay, and the majority of his fans won't buy tickets to Coachella, because the tickets are already sold out (by the time the lineup drops, eh). You guys can rage about this all you want, but it's 100% the word of God.

Perhaps because the directions you gave were tear-stained to the point of illegibility. Try again.

I think it's funny that you have to change your argument to try and refute what we've been saying here. You were arguing that old acts don't belong at Coachella. Nobody was talking about headliners. Follow the conversation.

I'm down for some Santana at Coachella! He's all about House of Blues in Vegas though these days. He's doing some over sea's shows in February and March and back to Vegas in May. Looks like he has April all free.

http://www.lasvegassun.com/blogs/kats-report/2012/mar/04/santana-plans-turn-house-blues-spiritual-swingin-c/

Santana has a Vegas radius clause preventing him from being booked at Coachella for 2 YEARS.

Where did I say that? What's wrong with modifying stances, if in fact I did say that? It must suck to be the same person without variation year after year. Tell us about it.

this too. i'm not mocking them for their age, it's just that when people talk reunion what they have in mind is often different from what you'd actually get. alot of these reunions would be pretty hard to stomach

Ahahahaha perfect. Also bob mould was fucking awesome at FFF

Yep. He was super solid in the 4pm straight on sun no less! Props to Narducy and Wurster, too. Love all of them. FFF's lineup and aftershows made me joyous. I'll take the dust of FFF any year as long as it keeps up that sort of curation.

I keep fine track of what I say, actually. You seem to be the one spouting off bullshit facts that you can't prove. Run along now, kid. You won't be able to make it up to your parents for dropping out of college on a message board. Go boohoo to them, cretin.

30,000 posts of this exact same line later, and what have you to show for it? A heart condition, and a healthy start on your fourth chin? Kudos. If you laughed when I burned you, it'd be a lot less of a burn. Why do you think I continue to pay attention to you? ;)

nice one with the post count reference though.

Mostly though you are spending time fantasizing about me. You don't know me, you know nothing about me, and yet you continue to post your fantasies about me and try them out as "insults". With Lemmy on bass? Count me in! I'll get my space rock on.

Btw, love Brian Wilson solo stuff with the Wondermints. Pet Sounds at the Bowl with them still one of my top shows ever.

Your mistake was coming on here and thinking you could control other people without recourse. You clearly aren't liking it, so why not reform your strategy? I'm still here. I'm not going anywhere. While that reality must hurt you, it means very little to me. Finger strokes, lil m8. If variety is any marking of intelligence, then you, from a multitude of observations, have very little of it to show. Am I a rube for countering every undersexed "stud" on the internet, or for treating you like an asshole when you act like an asshole? You clearly don't understand the word rube, so I invite you to read a book that's dear to me. Maybe if you spent more time reading offline, you'd gain the ability to articulate beyond your dismal monosyllabic being. Or.... in your words.... "Get the fuck out of here, you fucking idiot." Even an imbecile can figure out a plethora of ways to burn people for lacking intelligence. Feeling the need to burn people of less intelligence would make you a total douche. Reality: You're a total douche who feels challenged by me. Now continue to follow me from post to post trying to prove your manhood to me. Go ahead.

I do. But we are just dreaming, yes? Here is the only reason I really even brought it up ...cr****

2011 saw the band tour Australia for a second time, and play a series of festivals in Europe, including Sweden Rock Festival. A small UK tour was held in December. April 2012 saw the release of a new album, Onward, on the Plastichead arm, Eastworld Records. Keyboardist Dead Fred guested with Hawkwind for the 2012 tour in support of Onward.

In November 2012, a power trio subset (Brock, Chadwick and Hone) of the current touring line-up released an album under the name "Hawkwind Light Orchestra. titled Stellar Variations, on the Esoteric sub-label of Cherry Red Records.

The spring Hawkwind tour, which launches at their HawkEaster event in Devon on 30th and 31st of March will include a full performance of the Warrior on the Edge of Time album, and will be complemented by a long awaited and very special album release ;)

In what will be a first for Hawkwind, the current line up will play the entire Warrior album in it's original sequence as part of their set.

Warrior 2013 tour kicks off with some regional dates in April, with more dates being planned for later in the year.

This has always conjured similar nostalgic passions :
