Geez, this seems like it's going to be mired in appeals courts though, no? I'm sure there are lawyers already crawling all over this.

Councilman Paul Koretz and Wesson introduced a motion that would allow 182 dispensaries opened before a 2007 city moratorium to remain as long as they adhered to strict regulations.

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa:

I support a limit on dispensaries while preserving access for those with a verifiable medical need as prescribed by state law.

I don't think they're all going away, just the sketchy ones.

They are going from 500 to 182? How many are operating now in LA?

They are currently trying to create a regulatory board for MMJ which will then attempt to pen up a proper statewide memorandum.

Until that is done, all of this other news is poppycock.

Yup; remember this (http://www.coachella.com/forum/showthread.php?50199-They-re-trying-to-take-our-marijuana-away!!!) from last October?

From what I read, the ban closes shops but still allows those with a card to grow their own marijuana plants. That's the "preserving access." Such easy access, too! </sarcasm>

I can't wait for Villaga-grossa to be out of office. This guy is an all-around idiot.

yes, but he was voted into office. so who is dumber and why do you trust citizens to make a better choice next time? he changed his last name to pander to a certain demographic and it worked, who is to say it won't happen with the next one.
