Just to add more fuel to the conversation, I'd also love to see bassnectar and rusko :) any time slots pleaseee and I know Zeds Dead just played but they always get me moving and its much better than afrojack as a repeat

im just hoping for more rare acts in the sahara, i think him and bassnectar would both be good but they're around all the time so i wouldnt be bummed if they're not. ill take them over guetta or kaskade though

Yeah he's doing a massive US tour this fall but I'd still love to see him on the Coachella bill. Way different set than anything that's been in the Sahara the last 2 years. His sound is original, groove oriented, and extremely danceable. It really seems like the only reason to hate on PL is that he's popular, and that's not a very good reason if you ask me. But that may upset half the board users

SepaGroove
07-02-2012, 09:15 AM
I'm all for PL playing next year. Very original, soulful, electronic sound but with a good enough groove to keep you dancing. I'd love for him to play in the Mojave.

Also going to the LA show of his tour w/ DJ Shadow and MartyParty. Really looking forward to this one!

He was terrible at Sasquatch this year. How about some new blood?

How was he terrible at Sasquatch? If you don't like his tracks, that's one thing, but it's not like he made a bunch of mistakes or anything. I saw the same set and thought it was fine and about what I expected. I am not a big fan of his music but the performance was fine.

I'm always down for some new blood.

There's no way he could be terrible live. You just must not be a fan of his music.

Gribbz
07-02-2012, 09:37 AM
He didn't make any mistakes? Regardless, I've seen him put on way better sets. Criticizing someone's performance doesn't mean you don't like their music.

Then track selection maybe? Idk I've only seen him twice and he killed it both times.

Right, but I am asking what specifically you saw that made you say he was "terrible". So you're saying you just didn't like the tracks he chose to play or...?

This was my first time seeing him without a drummer. It's subtle, but I think live percussion adds a lot to a electronic sets (Cold Cave, Booka Shade, etc.). Anyway, his live shows aren't getting any better unfortunately. Pretty sloppy.

To each his own.

Booka Shade! Now there's an act I'd love to see at Coachella next year.

^^^^ YES! Arguably my favorite Sassy act ever! Bring Booka Shade!!!

Edit: Also I didnt think PL was terrible at Sasquatch, but i didnt think he was great. The drummer adds a lot to his live perfomance. I just wish he would play more of his downtempo music during his live sets.

i agree with this completely. his edc set was my first time seeing him w/o a drummer and while his set was fun and all, my gf and i both felt it was pretty sloppy as well

that means nothing. they are the ones throwing the shows for his current tour, as they do with a ton of other artists. doesnt mean that he's likely to be at coachella

A friend of mine who went to sasquatch said his set wasnt very good either. Keep in mind he is a pretty lights fan and was excited he was going to see him. Hes coming to my town in a couple weeks and i'll also be seeing him at shambhala so I guess i'll find out for my self. Would be pretty sweet to see him at coachella any where but the sahara.. probably my least favourite tent.. coming from a big edm fan. Terrible vibes and terrible djs for the most part.

07-17-2012, 02:45 PM
I'm a fan of pretty lights, and i have to agree with a lot of what's said on here. He should never have ditched his live drummer. He was fun at edc (and from what i've heard from friends, sasquatch as well) but from what i've seen his sets are much better when he's doing his own show and can play for 2+ hours, rather than being crammed into a 50 minute time slot. I would welcome him at the sahara in 2013 because lets face it, he'd be taking the place of some shitty flavor of the week dj, and even 1 less of those would be a good thing
And if you think he is just a shitty flavor of the week dj, check out the hourly radio shows he puts out on his soundcloud every week. And consider the fact that he puts out all his music for free.

Does he even mix his songs together when he does his live show nowadays? Maybe it's hard to mix them because each song has a specific video sequence to it, but that kind of kills the vibe for me. I don't know if he always does that (never actually seen him), but I listened to a recording of him at Ultra this year and the songs weren't mixed. One would end and the next would just start right away. Pretty weak.

I don't know how much mixing he does when he plays live, but I know that he uses Ableton. Like you said, when each song has a specific video sequence everything is pretty much "pre" mixed.

Your an idiot. Just because fratbros and ptots show up doesnt mean shit, they'll be at anything with a bassline thats popular, good or bad. Atleast his music is original and not the lame ass 4x4 house or dubstep that everyone else plays in the Sahara.

PL yea why not, I'm down for some unique electro this year. They should also bring Big Gigantic w/ live sax & drums, and either PantyRaid or just MartyParty. Two Fresh would be awesome too. and now that i'm on a role, I hope Koan Sound or Brown & Gammon are chosen for the dubstep sets, they would tear it upp.

his phoenix show was incredible last night. Seems like he takes a bit to get turned onto the crowd (same slow start happened when i saw him in eugene a couple years ago) but once he got going damn. Lol. When he played that at EDC I was wondering how many of the kiddies were thinking that. Btw -the Marquee dayclub show was just ok. Probably only cuz I love his music though. The Vegas dayclub scene is not an ideal venue for PL imo. There were some really hot ladies there though.
