Not sure why they sold 3,000 more passes W1 than W2.

The numbers are finally in for the 2012 Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, which took place over two weekends for the first time this year, April 13-15 and April 20-21. The festival sold out quickly back in January, and the numbers are predictably staggering: $47,313,403 in gross ticket sales and attendance of 158,387 for the two weekends combined, according to Billboard Boxscore.

That broke down to 80,726 tickets sold for the first weekend and 77,661 the second. The lineup, including headliners the Black Keys, Radiohead, and Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg (with the memorable "appearance" of Tupac Shakur), was exactly the same for both weekends, a remarkable achievement in itself.

The following weekend the host site Empire Polo Grounds showcased the Stagecoach country festival, with headliners Brad Paisley, Miranda Lambert, Blake Shelton and Alabama, April 27-29. The gross for Stagecoach was $13,043,515, with attendance of 55,772 each of the three days, according to Boxscore.

Both Coachella and Stagecoach are produced by Goldenvoice, a subsidiary of AEG Live.

That is odd that weekend 1 sold more tickets. Maybe celebrity attendees have something to do with it, but I can't imagine that's the only reason.

Did they sell media passes?

i'm sure the crews/staff related to the live streams make up for some of that difference, but not 3k.

They shot both weekends. Mazzy Star has some W2 stuff on the festival youtube page. Not 100% if they shot Radiohead W2.

Maybe the reason more attended week 1 than week 2 is that the brokers sold all their week 1 tickets but not all their week 2 tickets, making them "eat" the tickets. I hate the secondary market.

The number only refers to tickets sold.

Plus brokers could sell those tickets just with Dre & "Digi-'Pac".

But there aren't more weekend 1 tickets than week 2 right? When the rest go on sale in Jan do you think there will still be Week 1 fix left?

the secondary market doesnt matter, since the primary market is all billboard reports on.
