Sufjan Stevens made it seem to me that he would never do a fest like Coachella but after Jeff Mangum this year I think they may be able to offer him enough money to get him to do an outdoor stage sunset act.

At the time (2010) he said he had a lot of material coming but it still hasn't yet...

Are you saying you heard this yourself from Sufjan, or read it in an interview somewhere? I'm not being snarky; just curious.

It would be a big bummer if he's stopped playing at the more energetic venues (someone else said he doesn't like shows where people are standing, or something like that).

The Presets and How to Destroy Angels would both be amazing. The Presets' album has been rumored for like 2 years though, so who knows when it's actually releasing.

Speaking of bands with long overdue albums:

Tool (fuck yeah)
No Doubt (fuck no)

And another band releasing new albums soon:

Green Day (dear God, no)

I could definitely see Ed Sharpe. They've toured at regular sites behind the album this spring and festival bookings seem like a natural next year.

Two Door Cinema Club will have an album out soon and are likely festival-ers next year as well.

Beach House and SSPU seem like naturals as well.

Then again, last year I was positive (in fact, you can pull up old posts where I think I obnoxiously proclaimed this at least a half dozen times) that Bon Iver, TV on the Radio, Fleet Foxes, and Lykke Li were all shoo-ins because of new albums. We got one of the four.

All these repeat acts are boring. I like the sound of Yeasayer and Beach House. Maybe Xx.

Let's get new blood here though! Ty Segall + White Fence, The Men, Porcelain Raft, Grimes, Bear in Heaven, John Talabot...

Missy Elliot + Timbaland
Sigur Ros

Did no one mention this yet?

"Elton John Cuts Raw LP With T Bone Burnett"

http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/elton-john-cuts-raw-lp-with-t-bone-burnett-20120315

Called The Diving Board, the album was written and recorded in a matter of weeks in Los Angeles and produced by T Bone Burnett. "It was T Bone's idea to get back with piano, bass and drums," John says. "He said, 'Let's start with that.'" Backing John are Raphael Saadiq on bass and Jay Bellerose (who played on The Union and has worked with John Mellencamp, Ray LaMontagne Robert Plant and Alison Krauss) on drums. On two tracks, the trio is augmented by guitarist Doyle Bramhall.

Animal Collective Are releasing Centipede Hz September 4.
Minus the Bear is mastering their new album now.
Beach House just came out with Bloom and are apparently blowing the fuck up.
If Pearl Jam comes out with a new album, I'll believe it, especially considering the 20 year anniversary.
Silversun Pickups fit in, but I heard disappointing reviews on Neck of the Woods.
I'm not a fan, but Garbage just released their first album in 7 years I think?
I could definitely see Edward Sharpe in the same spot Florence and the Machine played this year.
Flying Lotus will have his new album but played '10 and '12.. Dunno if I'd hold my breath on that.
If Crystal Castles releases their album this year they could show up.
The XX is also fairly blown up and may release an album this year. They said its more "club-influenced" http://www.digitalspy.com/music/news/a355038/jamie-xx-new-xx-album-in-time-for-2012-festivals.html
Passion Pit are releasing Gossamer July 24.
The Temper Trap just released their s/t album.
Metric are coming out with Synthetica on June 12.
Green Day would not fit in at all, but I'm still going to mention that they are releasing 3 albums this fall titled ˇUno!, ˇDos! and ˇTres!

Cat Power has recently announced a new album is imminent! As she randomly dropped from the 2012 lineup, I'd say there's a good chance it was because her new album wasn't quite finished yet.

2013 is looking very likely in follow up to her new album due to be released on the 11th of September!

On that note, I'm inclined to agree with the people who think there will be a lot of similarities between 2010 & 2013. I agree with you that Billy is really all that's left of the Pumpkins, but it would be an epic reunion if he could at least get Jimmy back on board. They had a big crowd but that doesn't mean they were well-received. I didn't see them so I can't say, but all of my neighbors from that year were "underwhelmed" and "left to get a good spot for Muse" and I saw mostly negative responses on the forum. They didn't play Kids (which I think is awesome but most people bitched about), and they played a lot of their new album which had been released less than a month beforehand so a lot of people didn't know the songs.

Again, I'm not saying they were bad or didn't have a big crowd (I remember hearing nothing but Oracular Spectacular on the campgrounds that year), I'm just saying the post-Coachella reviews were negative, and I think they have a reputation as a pretty weak live band overall. When I saw them they were solid though.

I was up pretty close and was excited to see them but left disappointed. It was so crowded up front and underwhelming that people were literally crowd surfing out of there. What it seemed like to my friends and I who were right up front was that MGMT was gearing up for an encore but were over their time limit and were not allowed to go back out. We could see them on the side stage looking like they wanted to go back out but just didnt. Case and point, they typically played Kids and Congratulations during an encore while on that tour. Unfortunately, those are my two favorite songs of theirs and their lack of "time mgmt" left me dissatisfied.

Some newer bands with new releases I've just discovered that feel like Coachella naturals.

Allo Darlin' - for the Jangle Pop Slot
King Tuff - For the Best Coast/Waves slot
Screaming Females - for the Wild Flag Slot
Lower Dens - For the Cold Cave slot
Miniature Tigers - For the Metronomy/Hot Chip Slot
Royal Headache - For the Suedehead/Vaccines Slot

What's your favorite album of his? I have the chance to see him live in September.

Wondervisions is tight as shit but I really like the new album, Positive Force, that is streaming for free right now on NPR and Spotify. A sure fire live jam band I'm sure since it's mostly instrumental

Here raises the possibility of two headliners The Strokes & Eminem... both working on a new album.

There will be a lot of clusterfuckchella repeat bands in 2013.

I hope so. Missing out on death grips, st Vincent, flying lotus, and the shins was a bust

Shins were such a bust. I didn't even get to hop along with my giddy throng. That's all I wanted from him. For him to give me that line.

Eminem wouldn't surprise me, but The Strokes headlining two years after they headlined with Kanye in 2011 seems highly unlikely.
