Saw this, I am very sad for his family. I wonder if it was really a suicide.

I used to make Blizzards for him at Dairy Queen in La Mesa. Bummer.

Wasn't too concerned about it. What would you have used?

I wonder if it was really a suicide.

Wasn't his "driving off a cliff" incident a few years ago an attempted suicide?

Sure was. I didn't know about the domestic violence charges though. Yikes.

So sad! I remember going down to the stadium to welcome Seau and the rest of the Chargers home after their win over the Steelers. Crazy how many players from that team have died.

Shockingly it is called Seau's...

It's crazy everytime this happens to someone who seems to "have it all". Fame, money, and beloved by football fans and especially the community of San Diego. Guess the inner demons that people have unfortunately win out sometimes.

I suspect (along with others) this has nothing to do with having it all, or inner demons. Read about CTE and the effects it causes. He shot himself in the chest, which the other footballer who killed himself did in that way so his brain could be studied for CTE research.

yep, eight from the '94 roster. Fifteen percent (give or take...not sure if anyone was cut, traded, IR, etc).

I find this extremely interesting. Especially the impaired judgment and impulse control problems.

This trauma triggers progressive degeneration of the brain tissue, including the build-up of an abnormal protein called tau. These changes in the brain can begin months, years, or even decades after the last brain trauma or end of active athletic involvement. The brain degeneration is associated with memory loss, confusion, impaired judgment, impulse control problems, aggression, depression, and, eventually, progressive dementia.

kinda makes you think he didn't "fall asleep" at the wheel off that cliff a few years back (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5699659 ). He just continued on with too much inner conflict.

It looks like the family is allowing this to happen: http://www.latimes.com/sports/sportsnow/la-sp-sn-junior-seau-brain-study-20120503,0,1280862.story?track=icymi
