I was really anticipating seeing this guy but never caught a glimpse of him. Anyone fortunate enough to see him?

I didn't either, looked for him, prob due to the weather

I asked the Global Inheritance tent. One guy on Friday said he was still "under excavation" which is inconsistent with the twitter updates from last month that reported he was already training in the high desert for Coachella.

Girl on Sunday said they were waiting for the winds to die down and said he won't be coming until Weekend 2 (even though Sunday's weather was next to perfect). Colossal let down.

I was incredibly bummed out that this as long as a couple other art installations weren't there because of the wind

They weren't giving rides. rskapcat asked early in the day on Sunday & was told they weren't offering rides due to the liability being too high.

Yeah I asked the Global Inheritance people too and they were kinda vague. It may have been a weather issue...just one reason why I made the thread about pushing Coachella back one week

I was really looking forward to seeing this, but I was so busy going from stage to stage it didn't ruin my weekend

I asked one of the workers about Rex, and she said it wasn't ready. I jokingly asked her why they would do this to us weekend 1'ers and she seemed legitimately upset that we were let down.

A member of our group was LAMPOONING me all weekend for even suggesting that Rex was real, so on Sunday I went early to get video to be like "Fuck her" and then I got there and those kids were like "Uh yeah he's actually not here today" and you can imagine how pissed I was I seriously had a hard time getting the fuck DOWN for like 3 seconds

Based on nonsense like this are you kids thinking weekend 1 or weekend 2 next year? Of course that's supposing Coachella has split weekends again.

Still Weekend 1. Fuck 103 degrees. Fuck it. Hopefully they fucking hustle next time and every attraction is available for both weekends.

You are right. He doesn't move or take a crap. I'll look closer tomorrow.

----------------

Happily, Goldenvoice (the promoters of the event) go above and beyond to insure that the Coachella experience is not only memorable but also environmentally responsible. The trash and assorted detritus left behind after the festival is rather staggering, so Goldenvoice has employed the services of non-profit organization Global Inheritance, who maintain the festival’s recycling and sustainable efforts.

Coachella also has a knack for everything fun, and this new on-site recycling effort is definitely that: “Recyclosaurus Rex”, a 20-foot tall “half robot/half dinosaur” that will be roaming the grounds “eating” empty cans and bottles.

It gets even better: the robot Rex also comes complete with an operational digestive system, and will leave large “droppings” of recycled materials crunched into cube around the size of a bale of hay. This is where you come in.

Coachella and Global Inheritance are offering a “special Coachella prize pack” for the person who can dream up the best idea on what exactly to do with those bales of recycled materials. Send your best ideas to trex@globalinheritance.org, and good luck!

Was looking for it all weekend 1 and never saw it. Was pretty upset about it too. Understand weather plays a part in a lot of factors.

If it just stood there and did nothing thats very weak. I also thought it was going to be roaming around eating trash.

Of course you thought that - that's what they (Global Inheritance) SAID it was going to do, lol. I guess they figure they can say whatever they want, get our attention, get out their message of green-ness or whatever....and then when what they "promised" doesn't come to fruition, no one's gonna really care except us diehards. They can pretty much lie without consequence. Even when I asked them about it on Sunday they were using stupid puns and jokes about why it wasn't there. They don't care, it's just a marketing scheme/gimmick.

frizzlefry
04-22-2012, 10:28 PM
It was honestly a little upsetting how "cool" those kids were acting when the company they represented didn't come through with what they promised. I'm not expecting a free fucking t-shirt but an apology or an actual explanation on one of the fucking days I came by and asked would have been better than a fucking witless pun.

The thing didn't move and didn't poop. The way it is built, it is capable of moving. And there a non-attached weight heavy enough to crush stuff. There was no metal poop under it's metal butt today. There were just bags full of empty bottles that the hired laborers collected and dumped next to the rusting dinosaur. I'll post pix tomorrow.

I don't see how they wouldve made it move, eat, and poop? It looks like an experiment gone awry... At some point they realized physics stood in the way of their vision and gave up.

Oh Recyclo, you could've gone so far in life...

I dont know if someone made a thread for it, but where were the art installations this year? We had a huge fucking crane in the middle of the polo fields in 2010. Size isnt everything, but if you're going to make a T Rex out of aluminum and chicken wire...make it AT LEAST 3 TIMES THAT SIZE. I just dont understand how Coachella cannot find a single artist that would love to bring something new and jaw-dropping to the fields. See: Burningman
