Lets try this again.

$640 million $462.0 million cash.

JustSteve
03-30-2012, 08:56 AM
then cut that cash in half or so for taxes.

Have a great disdain for the lottery, truly believe it is one of the biggest rackets in this country and that it goes against everything we are supposed to be about here in America. With that said, hell yeah I bought a ticket.

Tubesock Shakur

Utah is one of four states that don't have the lottery (five if you count Nevada, which of course has good-old-fashioned legalized gaming). The local news last night had coverage (http://www.ksl.com/?sid=19784233&nid=148&s_cid=article-related-1) of all the Utahans queued up in long lines out the front door of the first convenience store over the Idaho border. That type of psychology is funny to me: I will drive an hour or more to buy lotto tickets for a jackpot that is half a billion dollars, but for approximately the same odds, I wouldn't make the same trip in order to purchase lotto tickets for a "mere" $20 million jackpot.

I don't normally buy tickets but I was in Circle K and the old lady working there was completely frazzled, I asked her what was wrong and she told me she was completely over this lotto shit. OHHHH that reminds me, can I get 4 tickets? I think she wanted to murder me at that point. When I win I will find that old lady and give her a fat tip!

Looking for a strategy (http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/ezra-klein/post/mega-millions-frenzy-can-you-ever-beat-the-lotterys-long-odds/2012/03/30/gIQAbRmClS_blog.html?wprss=rss_ezra-klein)?

Of course, another strategy would simply be to buy up every single ticket combination. That would cost $176 million. But you’d be guaranteed to win about $293 million after taxes. Good deal, right? But there’s one big hitch: “First, if it takes five seconds to fill out each card, you’d need almost 28 years just to mark the bubbles on the game tickets. You’d also use up the national supply of special lottery paper and lottery-machine printing ink well before all your tickets could be printed out.” (Also, if just one other person picked the winning number, you’d end up losing $30 million all told.)

Because the ROI is better. The jackpot going over 500 million actually means the ROI is over 100%

I put in $5 towards an office pool and if we happened to win it would get split 12 ways; splitting $230 million (from a $640 million jackpot) 12 ways is a lot different than splitting $3.5 million.

I wouldn't complain about my $300K, of course, but it doesn't excite in the way that $20 million does.

$640 Million Mega Millions Jackpot Hit in Maryland
Saturday, March 31st, 2012

Winning Ticket Sold in Baltimore County one of several nationwide

Maryland sold one of the winning tickets for last night’s record-breaking $640 million Mega Millions jackpot. The lucky ticket was purchased at a retailer in Baltimore County. Lottery officials are waiting for information on jackpot winners from other Mega Millions states. The multi-state Mega Millions game is played in 44 states and jurisdictions – including Maryland, Virginia, Delaware and the District of Columbia. Last night’s winning numbers were 2-4-23-38-46 and Mega Ball 23.

“This is truly remarkable and historic,” said Maryland Lottery Director Stephen Martino. “We can’t wait to greet the winner of this world-record setting jackpot.”

At a minimum, she needs to give them their money back.

marooko
04-04-2012, 10:43 AM
Well that's if she even won. I don't know if it's the story, or the poor reporting on it, but I read all kinds of holes and questions in this story. Winning tickets in the safe, she never returned, she sent her friend to go buy more tickets for her, her manager sent her to buy more tickets, her ticket is hidden in McDonalds even though she may not have returned, when the CCTV footage is reviewed, it's speculated a guy actually won and not her. I mean, if the pool tickets are in the safe, isn't it easy to tell if they won? She even says the numbers "look familiar..." but she hasn't checked the ticket, but she won? And apparently, she said she's going to turn the ticket in the last two or three days. Now today she holds a press conference and wants everyone to "go home".

On her Facebook page, where she calls herself Sheila Paraison for some reason, she wrote, “i don't want da money it made my life a living hell already im gonna give it all to rebuild haiti.”

Employees of the McDonalds are split between being furious that she might be trying to cut them out of a win and skeptical that she actually won anything.

"She could not have hidden any ticket here,” one of them said at the eatery. “She hasn't been back and she doesn't have any locker to hide it. She would not hide it in the bathroom or anything.”

Just a bunch of crap from her and the supposed reporters. The NY Daily News is the only place so far that i read any actual investigation of the story.

She has said she definitely won; she thinks she won; she has the ticket at home; she stashed the ticket at McDonalds; and she has it in another, unspecified secret “safe” place.
