Me and Keriann went to Trader Joe's and I bought these kumquats because they're like adorable little miniature oranges, like the kittens of the citrus world, but I don't get how to eat them. They're impossible to peel, am I supposed to eat the skin? The inside is really sour.

I thought they were just for decoration like plastic fruit,

That video begins with the important information "a kumquat is entirely edible, except for the seeds." Then it tells you to swallow the fucking seeds.

I ate hummous say 3-4 times a week for lunch for a good stretch several years ago. I have since moved further from that AJs and access to that hummus is not as easy as it once was. Plus the pita bread they had was awesome, nice and fluffy.

I love hummous.

i strongly recommend the mediterranean hummus from trader joe's. its fairly new and has a super-creamy smooth texture. it has a few pignolias and sprigs of parsley sprinkled on top with olive oil. its SOOOO good!

But making your own is sooooo easy, if you have a food processor.

Here's a good basic recipe. (http://www.elise.com/recipes/archives/001844hummus.php) That's pretty much what I do, only I always use dried beans (which takes more planning), and I like using flake salt like Maldon instead of normal salt like Morton or something, because I like how you get random little explosions of salt on your tongue. Yum. There's nothing like the taste of freshly made hummus before the acids from the lemon juice have begun to break down, but it lasts for a really long time in the fridge too.

If you don't like the sour inside all that much, you should look for Meiwa Kumquats. They're a little bigger and rounder, and sweeter.

(hold for "that's what she said)

Edit seven months later because I didn't answer your question. Yes. Eat the skin. Usually I bite a hole in the end, suck out the inside, eat that first, and then eat the skin. The skin is really sweet compared to the sour guts of your average kumquat.

They're due to come back in season soon. I'm excited.

Maldon is the best salt ever. if you like potatoes try this some time. get some yukon golds or something like that.. small, 2" diameter max. poke holes in them then bake them at 450 for 1 3/4 to 2 hrs. That's right. 450 for 2 hours, crazy as it sounds. Pull them out, you will have these potatoes with a hard crust and a gushy interior. Cut them in half (I find a serrated knife like a tomato knife works best), drizzle with good olive oil, and then sprinkle with Maldon sea salt. man that's good stuff.

Omg Tom I love you. I'm totally a Maldon groupie. Those potatoes sound good. I'm going to try that soon.
