View Full Version : Who Are Your Most Elusive Live Acts?

I think that everyone's got a couple bands and/or artists that they would love to see live and, for various reasons, just keep missing.

For me... Spiritualized and Rusted Root

I believe RR would be a perfect sunset act on the Outdoor Stage some year.

Thanks to this year's lineup I can officially take DJ Shadow off my elusive list.

ditto for Dj shadow

...this year's lineup I can officiallly take off Peaches, Digitalism, Justice, Hot Chip.

Still on the list are Cassius, Royksopp, Avalanches, Feist

Battles (who I'm missing again this year)
Fugazi (probably will never be fulfilled)
Pelican (I usually find out too late or have something else planned)

Radiohead. They have literally never played in a city where I lived. They even played LA the night before I moved out here. Fucking bastards.

Bjork. I'm assuming I'll see her at Coachella though.

I agree with Tylerdurden31 that Boards shouldn't be factored in.

You can't beat yourself up about missing bands that don't give you the opportunity of seeing them. Like Massive Attack last year and Faithless this year, those are two acts that don't frequently tour the US.

I'm not a big jam fan, but I keep missing Moe. who I hear put on some very impressive live shows.

Last time Pearl Jam came to SLC, UT was in June of 1998. Luckily I have been fortunate enough to see them elsewhere, but PJ if you are reading this SLC misses you.

Flogging Molly!
Everytime they come to Vancouver... I cant go to their show.
Or everytime they go on tour, and I am available to go... they arent comming to Vancouver!
Bastards.

Pink Floyd
Haha. Me too.
Coachella 2008?

Asobi Seksu. For half their LA shows, I was out of town. For the rest, they were in venues way the fuck far away like The Echo and Spaceland and some place in the OC. Places I had no hope of getting to and nobody would take me. Which is why I've been begging for their appearance at Coachella for three years now.

Bands I doubt I will ever see:
Pulp
Portishead
My Bloody Valentine
Neutral Milk Hotel

Bands I just always somehow miss:
The Flaming Lips
The Dresden Dolls (well, I did finally catch a proper gig in October, but I missed the show at Henry Fonda in 2005, the warmup gig the night before, the free in-store at Virgin last year and when they opened for that shit band Panic! at the Disco)
New Order (they never tour...thought they would play LA after Coachella. I was wrong)

Fugazi
Boredoms
Spiritualized

I should have seen Boredoms in 05. I blew it. If I was aware of music earlier, I could have seen Fugazi when I was in Middle School. Spiritualized just haven't toured in awhile.

Tom Petty...It just keeps not working out for me when he's around.
And I'll finally take Kings of Leon off the list at the fest this year. I missed them about three times already.

Hmm. This is more bands I've wanted to see but not seen.

Superchunk/other Mac projects
TV on the Radio
Les Savy Fav
Okkervil River
Beth Orton
PJ Harvey
Tullycraft
Low
the Detachment Kit
the Delgados (broken up)

The Delgados toured the US and came to Phoenix... but I had to fly to Michigan to help my dad and uncle drive back a camper. I considered attempting to convince them to drive by Cedar Rapids, Iowa to see the Detachment Kit but decided against it.

Low

I just saw Low like 2 months ago and you wouldnt think it, but their live show has a lot of energy. I really enjoyed it.

PJ Harvey

I've seen her so many times that it's getting embarrassing.

My elusive acts (mostly just because I'm broke/lazy):
Radiohead
The Avalanches
The Microphones / Mt Eerie
The Postal Service

Only people still playing music I really want to see but haven't are Lou Reed and Patti Smith. Other than that everyone is broken up or I've already seen them.

Okkervil River

they opened for the decemberists and it was probably the worst bit of show i've ever had to sit through. the singer was absolutely horrid. he spent the whole time screaming and stripping, which is not exactly what i had expected.

I would like to see Lou Reed too.

I've seen Patti Smith three times. Two of those were father-daughter outings with my dad!

the band is not eluding you if you simply refuse to take the bus across town to get to their show.

i drove 10.5 hours to see Okkervil River. i'm sure tons here have made similar treks. saying they were "far away" when you were really just to lazy to make it work does not count.

Radiohead. :(
Teenage Fanclub :( :( ....... though they don't tour that much in the US.
Pearl Jam :( ........ sloppiness on my part.

Dandy Warhols
Aphex Twin
Bobby Bare Jr (Missed him last week because I was sick and dying)
Badly Drawn Boy (I keep avoiding him, because if the show sucks, I'll never listen to his nice music again)
Brian Jonestown Massacre
The Eels
Hank 3
Iron Maiden
Jason Forrest (I have my doubts of ever seeing him...)
The Microphones
The Magnetic Fields
Mogwai (how disappointing of me)
The Soft Pink Truth (they'll probably break up before I see them)
Spank Rock (I've missed them 3 times so far on shows I fully intended to go to)

I can't complain, because I got to cross DJ Shadow, Old 97's WEEN, and Sebadoh off my list in the last year.

I've missed Man Man 3 times now, including their upcoming show in LA I can't go to. I missed The Unicorns in Seattle because I couldn't find the fucking venue, and then they broke up a few months later. I missed Daniel Johnston at ATP a few years back and that really pissed me off. Missed Elliott Smith that year too, for obvious reasons. And I'm beginning to doubt I'll ever get to see Tom Waits unless I'm willing to fly out to some random midwestern city on a whim (assuming I could get tickets in the first place). I've seen Lou Reed twice and I'll tell you, Courtney, you ain't missing much. Okkervil River was amazing at Bumbershoot a few years ago. Oh, and Aphex Twin has eluded me a couple of times as well, once at Coachella.

I keep missing both The Prodigy and Chemical Brothers whenever they've toured for one reason or another.
Doves and Elbow are another couple bands that I worship and adore yet have never seen, because the selfish bastards won't do the rounds...

Battles (who I'm missing again this year)
Fugazi (probably will never be fulfilled)
Pelican (I usually find out too late or have something else planned)

Battles would be a great add for Coachella. I saw them open for Prefuse73 a couple of years ago and they kicked ass.
They're both playing the Bowery Ballroom on April 3rd (No L.A. dates though).

I can mark Cornelius off my list.
