So my group and I plan on having a pretty sweet camping set up.. and want to incorporate some string of lights (like christmas lights) along the inside of our canopy. We obviously will not have an outlet to plug them in. Im no light/LED expert but can some one give me a lowdown on the best type of lights/way to do this? Fortunatley we do alot of camping and traveling so have large car type batteries we can use for battery power if need be.

Suggestions/info?
Thanks guys!

there are battery packs you can buy, with electrical outlets, usb ports and car chargers. you charge them on the car battery on the way to the firlds, then if the car battery dies, you can charge the battery using the pack.

How long would the battery on one of these things last if you just had lights plugged into it and maybe a phone or 2?

I'm pretty sure I remember seeing battery powered string lights when I was doing wedding research.

they last for a long time, and you just recharge them on the car battery if they die. then if the car battery dies, you charge it using the portable battery.

at roo we had a stereo, cell phones ipods, and we may have only recharged once or twice over the 5 days.

i got two 10-packs of fairy berries from http://lightsandfog.com/ . the saveoncrafts site has it too but this site was a couple bucks cheaper

i also got a 3 meter/30 LED long strand of lights from ebay like what was linked above...they have auctions for them going all the time, i ended up winning one for like $2.87 and free shipping..it takes 3 AA batteries and is cool but my only complaint is that the controller switch has three settings on it - off, flashing, and on...except flashing is dim flashing and on is bright flashing so there isn't really any steady light with it. i figure for 3 bucks tho its great and will be good to have hanging in our canopy but we will still need to get something with a more solid light. (if anyone has bought these before, have they had the same experience with flashing and no steady-on? if so, please lmk!)

update - even with the lights only flashing i just bought another set of them for $3.75 with free shipping..can't hurt right?

also got my fairy berries in the mail..they are really cool but they are small pieces that only turn off if you take the battery out (the whole battery/led contraption only takes up half of the sphere so you can store the battery in the sphere in the other half with no problem), and i don't see that boding well for coming back to a dark campground and not being sober. if anyone is interested in these i'll gladly sell you them for cheaper than you can find online, otherwise i'm just gonna eat the shipping cost and return em b/c it's not worth the hassle for me :) hope this helps anyone who is considering buying them

eBay is offering $7.64 off any order right now with the code CUKFB1. So using http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l2736&_nkw=led+battery+string+lights you can get a few strands for free :) thats what I did anyways. Suppose you could also use it to get a discount on any of your other camping needs.
