Is Whitney Houston Heading to The X Factor?
By Joyce Eng | TV Guide – 10 hours ago.. .

Is Simon Cowell courting Whitney Houston for The X Factor?

The diva has been approached to join the Season 2 judging panel, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Neither Houston nor Cowell have commented on the report, while Fox declined to comment.

Simon Cowell sounds off on X Factor shakeup

Houston could take one of the places vacated by Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul, who were fired last week along with host Steve Jones. Cowell and L.A. Reid will return for the second season.

Report: L.A. Reid signs contract for Season 2 of The X Factor

Cowell has already shot down reports that Beyoncé, Elton John and Mariah Carey are on the short list of candidates, but he has not mentioned Houston, who performed on the U.K. version of X Factor in 2009. He did, however, say that Katy Perry would be "fun" and "feisty."

Houston can next be seen opposite Jordin Sparks in Sparkle, which hits theaters in August.

Would you like to see Houston on the panel? Would she make a good judge?

Someone just decided to dedicate their karaoke rendition of 'My Heart Will Go On' to Whitney Houston. It was a misplaced dedication, badly sung, but it was still more dignified than anything the Grammy's will produce.

I can't tell you how many times I've followed that little bouncing dot singing this during Karaoke, or, the memory I have of taking my mom out for drinks during a visit and then surprising her by getting up to dedicate and sing it to her. In fact, I blame the high notes in this song for permanently changing my voice that night. Regardless of how she died, the fact remains...We've lost one of the most beautiful voices in the world.... Literally the first thing I thought of when I heard the news was "damn, those poor editors will be pulling an all-nighter putting something together for the Grammys tomorrow."

My friend got to go to the Clive Davis party tonight at the Beverly Hilton. I asked her if it was just a super mourning event and she said actually, other than Clive's very sad speech, everyone was more in the "lets party the fuck out of this thing in honor of her" type of mood. The only creepy thing was her body was still in her hotel room at the Hilton, too. Just a few floors up from them.

I kind of hate the whole "America's priorities are backwards, when blah blah is more appreciated than the military" argument. I mean, if a soldier dies, by all means, put it in his town's papers and his town's news show... but despite his service, who really knows him outside of his hometown? Must we say, "Out of respect to all the respectable people who die all the time, we want to say that Whitney Houston has died. A lot of you knew who she was. Moving on: We would like to talk about how you can make your cheap Thanksgiving spread look like it was from a 5-star restaurant, without you having to spend too much money, but instead, we are going to talk about the tons of people that die everyday, in African civil wars. Even though you don't want to see it, we are going to cover it, because it is death, and it is happening." I mean, come on, there are appropriate avenues and ways of appreciating the dead, and then there are silly expectations.

It's hard to choose a favorite among so many great tracks, but "The Greatest Love of All" is one of the best, most powerful songs ever written about self-preservation, dignity. Its universal message crosses all boundaries and instills one with the hope that it's not too late to better ourselves. Since, Elizabeth, it's impossible in this world we live in to empathize with others, we can always empathize with ourselves. It's an important message, crucial really. And it's beautifully stated on the album.

I mostly remember the song from the movie about Muhammad Ali. Here's Wikipedia...

"The Greatest Love of All" is a song written by Michael Masser and Linda Creed and originally recorded by Jane Olivor and then again by George Benson for the 1977 Muhammad Ali biopic The Greatest. The song was later popularized by Whitney Houston. Creed wrote the lyrics in the midst of her struggle with breast cancer. The words describe her feelings about coping with great challenges that one must face in life, being strong during those challenges whether you succeed or fail, and passing that strength on to children to carry with them into their adult lives. Creed eventually succumbed to the disease in April 1986 at the age of 36; at the time her song was an international hit by Whitney Houston.
