Tom, what music player do you use. There are better "scrobblers" than the one Last.fm now provides.

mountmccabe
12-14-2006, 02:48 PM
Better how?

Also what I really want is one that'll take data from my mp3 player. My mp3 player doesn't collect its own data so I doubt that'll ever be possible.

I use winamp. Maybe I should google winamp and scrobbler to see what shows up.

I use my iPod. At home I'll sometimes play stuff on iTunes or (gasp!) I'll put an actual CD in the CD player.

I hate when Last.fm douches you. I don't know what the hell happened, but on Tuesday, the website decided it wanted to record each song I listened to from Young Team on Saturday afternoon 20-40 extra times each. Now it completely fucked up my totals. It makes complete sense. Thanks Last.fm!

You can go thru and delete individual listens. I did that when my former roommate listened to one song by Chromeo on my computer 50 times in a row while I was gone one weekend

Yeah, I did that yesterday. The website updated a couple hours ago so it obviously didn't take those deletes into account.

50 times in a row?? Wow, he must have really liked that song.

Last.fm is buggy as all hell. Half the time, my top artist for the week is something I listened to once or twice. Right now, I only have one weekly top artist and I only listened to one album of theirs twice while I've had a lot of other stuff on repeat. Also I sometimes throw on the same thing every night for a couple of days when I go to sleep, so shit gets misrepresented. Here I am anyway http://www.last.fm/user/evabraunscervix/

Hannahrain
06-05-2008, 01:47 PM
That's not misrepresentation. You're listening to it. It's doing exactly what it's supposed to do.

SoulDischarge
06-05-2008, 01:53 PM
Eh. True, but that wasn't my point about it being buggy. Some days it'll scrobble everything as I listen to it and sometimes it won't scrobble anything for days.

chiapet
06-05-2008, 02:14 PM
Hrm, I've never had any problems scrobbling, except from iPods which have been a bit flaky (and that's one reason my scrobbles are so low - I didn't get that working properly until 3 months ago). On the other hand, I have a lot of PEBKAC scrobbling issues. Mostly that I just forget to scrobble at all. ;)

So I just signed up for last.fm right now.

Looking at my top played artists, and I am very surprised. Now, I should mention that last November my computer decided to fuck up and they had to restart from scratch. Luckily all the files were able to be backed up first and I didn't loose any of my music. However, I did loose all previous information of what I had listened to. Now, with that being said... my top played artists is Boards of Canada. By more then double of my second top played artist (The Black Keys). Now, the only time I ever listen to Board of Canada is when I study. So, I guess I study a lot more than I thought I did.

Anyways, besides track my music and shows... what else can last.fm do that I should know about?

It'll recommend other artists that you may like based on your listening habits. You'll also get a list of neighbours who have similar taste to you who you can interact with if you so wish (they don't call it anti-social networking). If you add people you know as friends, you can keep track of when they add shows through your news feed and mock what they listen to (paulb?).

Cool, thanks for help Chris. For my suggestions it told me to check out Fleet Foxes because they are apparently similar to Yeasayer and Grizzly Bear... so I am not sure how well it works.

I am here (http://www.last.fm/user/xiuh)

Josh, what's your last.fm ID?

Yes, the radio stations can work like that. If you've used Pandora, you can also import your Pandora stations. You're also automatically given suggestions based on your listening history.

I most like listening to my 'neighborhood' and have found lots of new music by looking at people who are my 'neighbors' to see what they listen to that I've not heard of. I end up using it in kind of a wikipedia recursive crawling stalking way where clicking on one person or band results in an hour of following other links/recommendations.

If you click on the name of any artist or perform an artist search and access their last.fm page, the artist page will have a link to a radio station (Underneath the picture, it will say "Play [insert artist name] Radio").
