Well I hope you get into it, because it needs fucking ratings/viewers bad, or else fucking NBC is gonna cut it next season I'm sure. Just go watch an episode online...no time to explain. It has a good cast, good story, good soundtrack, good cinematography...and it's not really about football. But if you keep thinking it is, then that's exactly the kind of mindset that's gonna kill this show.

I'm trying to get into more shows that are new to me. Here are a few comedy shows I like:

Jacob and I recently went through a couple seasons of Big Bang Theory about twentysomething nerd physicist friends. Funny as hell.

We also like Better Off Ted about a fictional corporate research company called Veridian. This shows gets better with every episode.

Flash Forward still gets my vote for best new drama.
Does it get better after the first several episodes? Everything was so sappy, and I felt like the show was beating me over the head with every new "clue" or plot point. And the show made me realize how much I hate Joseph Fiennes' acting.

i watch the big bang theory. the nerds ate pot cookies last episode and i laughed pretty hard... stoned nerds are funny. :)
OK! We're caught up then. We watched 2 1/2 seasons' worth in the past couple weeks. I love how the characters only wear a certain set of wardrobe choices (like Sheldon's Green Lantern shirt, Leonard's Recycle shirt, Howard's green and turquoise striped ensemble complete with turquoise pants). AND THE CYLON TOASTER!! Hilarious.

I don't know that its really changed much since the beginning other then they are focusing more on one or two story lines per episode instead of jumping all over like they did in the first few. There is more investigation of the clues instead of them all being thrown out at once.

Although I do have to admit, I like being beaten over the head with the clues, probably because I usually watch it stoned and need the extra push. :)

Yeah I noticed the show tends to throw Sheldon and Penny together a lot for easy laughs. I keep wondering if the show will thrust Sheldon into some sort of sexual encounter with anyone, and they keep teasing about it but never fulfill it.

Lost is so worth it. I enjoy Dexter, Modern Family (I have missed the last couple episodes but this show is very funny), Top Chef, reruns of Criminal Minds (new ones I've seen are kinda lame. Last week it was about vampires). I've lost all interest in South Park. Heroes had me for 1 season. Is Weeds still on? I think I watched the first 3 seasons, not sure. I also like No Reservations, Man VS Food, and Sam the Cooking Guy.

locachica73

We're still slogging through Heroes. Parts of it are good, but there are so many characters that come and go (and come back again, WTF ALi Larter playing 3 different people?!?), so many looming disasters that have to be averted, so many abilities people have that change arbitrarily to fit the plot. :nono But I still watch it.

The new shows i am digging the most this year are Glee and Pawn Kings (History Channel). Glee is a show unto it's own. Very funny, great cast, colorful and they execute the musical numbers week in and week out.

Pawn Stars is a reality show set in a pawn shop in Vegas. It's like The Antiques Road Show on PBS, but more entertaining. Fun history lessons with any object that enters the place:

Fringe is a good one. By far one of my most highly rated shows of late. It's like we have the X-files back but with more humor.

I also (like a lot of people) Lost... but even more than Lost is Friday Night Lights. Seriously, people need to give this show the love it deserves. I think people see it's a show about high school football and write if off. But the acting is top notch, the story compelling, the scenes believable, and is basically great television. Anyways, that's my 2 cents.

I think the quality of television has actually improved as the years have gone by. Unlike movies, they are able to tell long narratives, create rich character development, and really draw the viewer in. This is why even comedies are now having complex story arcs that go from season to season. Now if you simply do not like visual media, that's something else entirely.

I'm enjoying the hell out of Channel 4's Misfits.

Pitched as a cross between Skins and Heroes, it's about a bunch of young offenders on probation who get caught up in a storm and start developing superpowers afterwards. They're all spectacularly obnoxious, but in a variety of different ways and entertainingly so, which makes for a fun new spin on the whole superhero idea. They're on probation, for a start, so they're already criminals; criminals with superpowers!

Best character of the lot being Nathan, who spends most of the first season - six episodes, in common with most British season lengths - wondering what his power is and being an outstanding asshole to everybody and still being brilliant.

U1j4gwso6Pk

It's refreshingly confident in it's own premise, and it's got a nice mixture of cheeky British humour and a genuinely grim sense of menace running right through it. I've loved every bit of it I've seen so far. You guys probably can't watch it on E4's online player, but I'm sure it's out there on torrents and it's well worth seeking out. The DVD is dirt cheap too, but probably has a load of music changes; the last episode had, hands down, my favourite use of Lady Gaga ever, and a scene where somebody saves the day in part thanks to Smack My Bitch Up, so it would be a shame to lose out.

It's currently my favortie ongoing TV show.
