MODEST MOUSE (also comes in deluxe version)
LCD SOUNDSYSTEM
TRACEY THORN (first true release since EBTG)
THE PONYS
EL-P
TED LEO
ANDREW BIRD
I'M FROM BARCELONA
PANDA BEAR
ADULT
THE LOCUST
PATRICK WOLF (import only)

so whatcha gettin? I'm ponying up for the deluxe MM and LCD for sure.

It sucks that LCD Soundsystem and Modest Mosue come out on the same day. I was kind of hoping that James Murphy's wish would come true.

The idea was that, if everyone who bought LCD Soundsystem bought Sound of Silver in the first week, it would sell more than the Dreamgirls Soundtrack, which only sold like 60k and debuted at number one.

FYi - the more I hear MM the more I like it.

Dare I say me likes it more than Arcade Fire? Time will tell.

definitely getting LCD.
maybe andrew bird and el-p.
not terribly impressed with MM.
a few fun tracks, but some don't click for me until the end of the track.
i'll wait to decide about MM.

The I'm From Barcelona album is fun, and their live show is reminiscent of The Flaming Lips. I have a friend who wanted to go to their show in London next week, but he'll be in Barcelona for the England (soccer) game. Uncanny!

Saw Patrick Wolf supporting The Arcade Fire last week - Quite entertaining. I prefer his previous albums tho.

that's a great album to not be into.

on the new album, the ultimate track, for me, is "Someone Great".
beautiful.

The new disc is way more accessible than the self-titled album. What sealed the deal for me was when I was getting my dad's house ready for a huge dance party and we put that disc on right after we got the sound hooked up. Its one of those albums that must be listened to at HIGH volume to truly appreciate. Also, it is pretty much designed to be listened to while setting up a party.

hence: "You've got to set them up kid, set them up."

codytwo
03-19-2007, 03:18 PM
Yes. The first track on Sound of Silver is one of the best songs to come out in several years. And Someone Great is also excellent. This album has a very personal feel to it, which I did not expect. All of the songs are flawlessly structured. And there's some excellent songwriting as far as lyrics are concerned. Most people who don't like LCD Soundsystem are turned off by the weird inflections or the deadpan shit that James Murphy uses too much, sometimes. But this CD has more soul and feeling, I think.

On sat night I went out to eat and the wine list at this restaurant (Cowboy Ciao for you Az folks) is huge. in the middle of one page it said in big print: "I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than listen to Tom Waits sing."

Evidently it's a Dorothy Parker quote though someone said they thought it might date back to W.C. Fields.

I agree, except on Missed the Boat - you can definitely hear his Marr-y jangle. I liken his use on this album, albeit smaller, to what he did in The The's Mindbomb. That was obviously Matt Johnson's band, just as Modest Mouse is Isaac's.

I'm glad for the experimentation going on on the record though, I was worried after hearing Dashboard. Also, nice pakaging too, from Decoder Ring!
