Yes because the fact that I am a pretty big fan of Eminem, Jay-Z, Dre, Snoop, Nas, Daft Punk, Arcade Fire, Radiohead, The Black Keys and countless other big artists is a clear indication that I am a "hipster" who hates mainstream music.

I'm a 24 year old, I've seen them live and a year or so ago I was on here defending these clowns. The sooner you realize there is no artistic credibility behind what these greased up douchers do the better. I am not going to sit here and debate the whole thing with you like everyone else is but they aren't anywhere near as skilled as you are saying they are. There was a point at the start of their careers when they were producing decent music and playing good sets, but over time they have traded in originality and creativity for a fat pay check. Thank you for accepting me and guiding me to the light.

I understand that this struggle will never end, that there will be those who hate needlessly on Swedish House Mafia even after their performance. For some, there will be no convincing. However, there remain others, the undecided, the bandwagon-hoppers, and the uninformed. We can guide them, we can show them the light and we can show them the laser. We can spray champagne on their faces and we can play them the newest Axwell bootlegs and they will understand the sheer human energy that is Swedish House Mafia.

To those reading this: join us. What do you have to lose? Imagine letting go of your inhibitions and just being your true, unshackled self for 90 minutes. Imagine becoming one with a huge crowd of beautiful people, dancing under the stars on the grass. Imagine partying, imagine loving, imagine laughing, imagine throwing your hands in the air and making some fucking noise. Imagine it.

Before Axwell, Ingrosso, and Angello take to the decks the people who surround you will be strangers, humans separated by the cold realities of our terrible modern world. During the SHM set, however... they become your friends. Your family. United by love under the magical umbrella of house music. There are three hands on that umbrella, holding it high into the sky and making sure that it remains steady. They do this for us, for the people.

Finally, a prayer.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no hater, for Axwell, Ingrosso, and Angello are with me; their bootlegs and their remixes, they comfort me.
This reminds me of the day they took my shackles off... Talk about some fucking Happy Feet while fist-pumping my way back to freedom! Hell yeah!

Listen you fucking clownshoe, I DJ'd for five years and still do for fun on occasion. I have known people who have been spinning for over 20. You can't mix on a loud fucking soundsystem without headphones. It's IMPOSSIBLE, contrary to what these SHM assholes tell you. The pitch control on CDJ's are never EXACTLY alike. Over time, they can wear down depending on how much they are used. You can't just play on one set of CDJ's at ULTRA and then expect the CDJ's at Coachella to have the same response with their pitch control, even if they are the same brand. Issues will eventually come up if you don't have headphones.

No headphones + CDJ's = pre-recorded set

THAT VIDEO IS ONE PART OF ONE SET, as Steve stated, it was prerecorded to sync with pyro. I've worked on big shows with Pyro and this is always the case with big artists. they play a premade outro to their set. If you look at other video's you can see them Djing... WITH HEADPHONES! (oh and btw. A lot of their music is spot on 128 bpm, and they play there sets at 128, therefore tempo change is unneccesary the cdjs provided at Ultra coachella, EDC etc are as good as new or if the artist is touring, they bring their CDJ's along with them from spot to spot... debunking everything you just said.) I can sit down with you and with some cdjs and mix without using headphones if the songs are the same tempo. its clear that Steve isnt trying to mix at all in that video however, it is prerecorded

evobeatsti

Who knew....?

"Putting effects on top of a prerecorded set" is not what Daft Punk does at all. They loop everything they play in. That's what most "live" EDM sets are. That's pretty different than an artist being exposed for doing absolutely nothing at all, Trick.

I can loop everything I play in and do it perfectly with Traktor and a $40 Korg midi controller, does that make me better than SHM?

Provide proof that deadmau5 played a pre-recorded set or your credibility will be dismissed.

First of all, he plays on ableton... if you have used ableton, you will agree it is equal to "pre-recording" your set, because you have to have everything ready to go in the arrange window and can set it up to just play in order, No EQing, no tempo control, nothing. the computer does it all for you. Besides that, he played the exact same set to a tee at Coachella and EDC, same effects in the same places, same songs in the exact same order, same light effects at the same time (mau5 head turns on and talks during sometimes things get complicated for the first time) probably the laziest prep ive ever seen for a show.

Kanye is better than all the rappers you mentioned PLUS he produces his material. Every single detail that revolves around his music he works on. The guy can do no wrong whatsoever...
All of the rappers you mentioned have remained the same, they produced one good album and the rest was history. Every album Kanye puts out is amazing, tell a story, and they show how he grows as an artist.

Thanks, Trick. You are indeed the board's most wise and helpful member, and boy do I need help with this one. It appears my ears have failed me. I'm unable to savor Kanye's sweet poetry in a manner befitting such a prophet and social icon. I want to hear Kanye "coasting on heroic levels of dementia, pimping on top of Mount Olympus," as one critic described the album. Instead I languish at the bottom of that glorious peak, unable to reach the summit.

Let's start with this verse, shall we?

The system broken
The school is closed, the prison's open
We ain’t got nothing to lose, motherfucker we rolling
Huh? Motherfucker we rolling
With some light-skinned girls and some Kelly Rowlands

Now, on first listen it was easy to dismiss this verse as some 2nd grade social observations and aimless namedropping, possibly even a Limp Bizkit reference. But I know I need to dig deeper. P4K gave this album a perfect 10.0, A PERFECT 10.0, and they usually reserve those kinds of accolades for 10th anniversary reissues.

After studying this verse for most of the morning I've concluded that Kanye is suggesting that America's school system is failing the black man, while the prison system is welcoming him with open arms. But at least for tonight, Kanye doesn't care because he and his devoted entourage of white women decided to drop ecstasy with Kelly Rowlands. I thought that was as deep as I could go, but then it occurred to me that Kelly Rowlands was by far the blackest member of Destiny's Child. Compared to Beyonce, she's Wesley Snipes Molasses black. So maybe what Kanye is trying to say is that even though the American system of social justice has failed black people, his penis doesn't discriminate. Light-skinned girls, Kelly Rowlands, it don't matter. Kanye's penis takes all comers. Pretty Christ-like actually.

I think I already appreciate the album more, but any further insight you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

I'll explain how to do it though, basically look at the pitch control mathematically. so say your at 120 bpm and you need to change the song to 124 bpm. you need to find out what percentage changes the bpm by exactly 1. so set this up and cross multiply 120/1=100/x which equals 120x=100*1 divide both sides by 120 and you get x=.8333 now you need to change the bpm by 4 so .8333x4= 3.33 that means that if you change the pitch by 3.333% (or 3.34 since pitch control goes to +- 6% on cdjs) you will be dead on beat matched with the 124 song as long as you have your que point set up on the first beat. try it out without headphones, you'll be dead on pretty much every time.

So you're saying you use math to do it? What if the specific deck is off by a little bit?

Go try it, if it doesnt work let me know. also like previously stated, they typically use new cdjs or their tour manager brings their own cdjs to each show that they are used to. I can't see a brand new pair of cdj 2000's being off at all, and if they are getting off, the swedes will know which way and adjust for it.

I'm not saying this is what Steve angello did, just saying it is possible to usce cdjs without headphoens and you could probably mix a whole set and be very close to on using this technique.

Look, the way you describe how to spin without headphones is a recipe for disaster. Sloppy mixing and trainwrecking are inevidible at some point. Songs can have such slight variations in tempo that even if you do what you describe, you are going to run into problems. Even if you have two tracks that are supposedly 130 BPM, they could be such a slight fraction off that it would fuck up your entire mix. I mean, sure, you COULD do what you are describing, but I have a hard time believing you can do it cleanly unless you have been sticking to the same exact set for a long period of time. So, unless you have a software program that does a lot of the work for you, I have a feeling you can't pull this off without a hitch.

Yeah the one where he explained his reasoning AFTER he denied playing a pre-recorded mix in the first place...

Hey, how come these modern super star DJ's need a pre-recorded mix so it syncs to a light / fireworks display when shit arena rock bands from the late 80's were actually performing live in tune with fireworks that were being set off? They didn't need anything pre-recorded. I mean, why the fuck do you need anything pre-mixed? I mean, if you're big bad ass DJ Steve Angello, matching up your songs with a fireworks show live shouldn't be a difficult task to complete. Just sayin'...

The assumption is that also in addition to BPMs being exactly 130 (or whatever) that the cue points are perfect. I'd have no issues doing this at a shitty Wednesday outing in my local lounge but not at a scrutinized performance. If you are a cheesedick you could also just timestretch all of your tunes in the studio, burn 'em to disc (or put them on your SD card) and have at 'em.

Plenty of hacks do it. It's an industry standard and accepted by the masses. So it must be ok.
Just like this whole genre and crowd, expectations and appreciation of creativity have gone down the drain. Just keep the kids dancing. Make it look good and stoke the hype.

What are you looking forward to music wise?
My style of music is that tech-house Cadenza type sound -- Luciano, Loco Dice. Not that big Swedish House Mafia sound.

What do you think about that?
It's not artistic. I can't see it lasting. Anybody can play big record after big record. And you can make one of those songs in 45 minutes. Traktor almost makes it for you. They've been a real hype machine. But I can't see it having longevity.

So you think it's bullshit?
I think it's bullshit. I do. I gotta give em props and I can't take respect away from them. But it's not so hard to play anthem after anthem, especially through a computer with auto sync. You just hit play.

This guy is obviously a nub.
1. Loco Dice isnt part of Cadenza and he and the Luciano crew have radically different sounds.
2. Traktor is DJ software not production software, I'd love to see someone make a song on Traktor.
3. playing anthem after anthem isnt any different than playing techno song after techno song, in fact i find it quite a bit easier to play techno songs because it is literally bars upon bars of simple beats so you can bring in a track whenever you want.
4. None of the cheese house artists use a computer with auto sync, SHM, Guetta, Avicii, Tiesto, etc etc etc etc all use cdjs, while the vast majority of the techno scene (richie hawtin, seth troxler the Cadenza crew, carl cox, etc etc etc use traktor with autosync)

There are videos like this for Daft Punk, and one where a guy recreates "Smack My Bitch Up" from scratch with the original samples in about an hour. They are interesting but the difference between knowing how to loop samples someone else found and making Discovery or One is huge.
