So happy Mazzy Star will be there. Their new material should mix in well with their older songs. I bet a lot of people will be crying during their performance, like whenever Bjork plays.

Placement on the second line is the serious WTF of the festival. Nothing against MS, but how is she (they? it's just Hope Sandoval, right?) any more relevant than James, who is buried on the Friday lineup. At least James had multiple hits. 'Fade into You' was the theme of my high school prom. Are they saving Ziggy Marley for next year?

Um. No. Who has Mazzy Star influenced? Other than virtually every high-school prom right around the time 'Fade Into You' came out. She had one hit in the 90's. It was a very popular hit. You think if the Spin Doctors were to reunite they would be on the second line? How is Mazzy Star more influential than, say, Suzanne Vega. Or Meredith Brooks. Or Sinead O'Connor. I'm not hating on Mazzy Star, it's just unusual that she's on the second line.

And nowhere near as good as Belly. :)

Belly was nothing special.

I can mostly agree. They were pleasant for their time. I still like 'Untogether' and a handful of their other tracks. There's a great B-sides collection out there (I think called 'Baby Silvertooth') with covers of 'Trust in Me' and 'Hot Burrito #1' I remember liking a lot. Tanya Donnelly is definitely the less talented half of Throwing Muses. But they are still as relevant as Mazzy Star, who is playing the second line purely out of nostalgia value. Hard to believe anyone older than a college freshmen still thinks 'Fade into You' is anthemic or resonant or meaningful.

Very right you are. PJ was my favorite moment of Coachella last year... I managed to sneak up during the Chromeo set before, and secured a front row seat to see that amazing set.

If I get up front again during MS... And if they sign... (Not likely due to Hope's shyness) I honestly am becoming more excited by the day.

I pray there is no conflict between them and Pulp. And they play late. Utter darkness is a requirement.

Belly was stellar live. Both records translated well to the stage, MS playing a festival (probably in daylight) Not as much.

Ok, what am I missing with this band? I've YT'd them a few times and everything I've heard sounds the same - dream-pop influenced acoustic guitar music with whispery female vocals. It's not bad, but it doesn't sound like its going anywhere. It's just...."boring". I feel like I should like this band, so if anyone wants to point me in the right direction, please do.

"So Tonight..." is a pretty decent listen, I must say, but I don't get the allure here. While comparisons to Belly may or may not be accurate, they're both in the same ballpark of mid-90's acts that were ok in their time but never left you thinking they'd be around 15 years later.

Easily my most anticipated act for this year. Usually I do not give a shit about getting close to the stage for a band's set but I'll be making an exception this year for Mazzy Star, gotta get there early and get near the front so that I can properly soak in the beauty of their music.
