Happy to see some nice Afrobeat representation. Seun is Fela's youngest son.

Yes I'm so fucking pumped. Afrobeat in the desert, doesn't get much better.

With Tony Allen on drums??? This will easily be one of the most under appreciated sets of the weekend.

If he has Kuti as a last name, you probably can't go wrong by seeing his set. I stumbled on Femi Kuti at Bonnaroo a few years ago, and it was a fun and interesting set. That whole family is pretty awesome.

Yes! One of the few "lower tier" (not meant disparagingly) acts I'm really looking forward to seeing. Hope they're not too early in the day.

He's got a pretty powerful stage presence. This would be great on the main stage in the late afternoon as sort of a warm-up to Dre & Snoop later.

There's gonna be more weed at coachella this year than ever before.

This is one of my most anticipated acts of the festival for sure. I cannot wait.

He only has two, Many Things from 2008 and From Africa With Fury:Rise from 2011. Both are awesome.

Fela Kuti once married 27 women on the same day. True story.

I think I heard one of their songs the other day on a Discovery Channel documentary about prairie dogs.

I should hope Tony Allen will be on drums. It says Egypt 80 and he is known as their drummer....Allen and Jimmy Cliff in one weekend would be legendary...

Also, I am going to dance my skinny white ass off to the fullest extent at this set.

"As a tribute to his father, Seun Kuti opens his concert with one of Fela's signature songs, "Zombie," a scathing indictment of the Nigerian army for blindly following repressive orders. This is Afrobeat at its most provocative written by a man who repeatedly challenged the military regime and paid the price in countless beatings and arrests. The older members of Egypt 80 played this dangerous, defiant song with Fela himself.

The lyrics are a mixture of English and Nigerian dialect: "Zombie no go go, unless you tell him to go...Zombie no go think, unless you tell him to think."

I'll lose a few pounds of sweat during this set both weekends. Close to my number 1 most anticipated of the festival.

I don't think Tony Allen is part of it anymore - at least, not as a regular. The videos of Tony Allen with Egypt 80, in recent performances, seem to present him as a special guest. It probably depends on what else he is doing.

Yeah, Tony's been busy making Rocket Juice and the Moon with Damon Albarn, Flea and Erykah Badu.

Could have definitely been louder, but when Seun came out and the band launched into Zombie... I don't think I danced that hard all weekend. Amazing set in the sun.

were you on the right side of the sound booth wearing a fedora style hat and dancing with a cute lady with short hair? there was this couple right in front of me dancing their asses off.

anyway, this set was fun! for knowing basically zilch about the band other than a few youtube videos i really enjoyed it. the impromptu conga line and then dance circle on stage-right were awesome to watch. really just the perfect fun-in-the-sun set.

The proper order was Seun Kuti into Santigold. I watched all of Egypt 80 from the rail on the Outdoor and still caught the last 15 to 20 minutes of Santigold from a respectable distance.
