Gary Clark Jr is better than the Black Keys.

I've heard of it, but this song is the best thing on the last few lines of the lineup.

Ooh, I like Wild Beasts too. Another band that is on a lower line that at least some of you have heard of, and definitely worth checking out: Other Lives.

I'm working backward from Sunday. So far, Gotye and Laura Marling seem promising.

The sheepdogs are a good new discovery for me. Super classic rock sound which I dig.

The title of this thread more than sums up my initial reaction to going through the lineup.

SoulDischarge

No obligatory abrasive noise/avant-garde band this year. Just lots and lots of mopey guys and gals with jangly guitars and people realizing they'd get more refined tang if they tried to be Gang Of Four instead of Nirvana.

Yea, so far going through the 40-50% of bands I haven't heard of, I am not coming up too impressed with anything. Other Lives are not bad, per the suggestion of that video someone posted though.

I'm pretty impressed with The Dear Hunter right now. All concept albums, and incredible talent.

I feel the same way. If they book Fanfarlo there, they could be worth a noon arrival.

I like some classic rock, but I also like the Sheepdogs. I'm not really lumping them in the same pile.

Just noticed you meant The Sheepdogs. LMAO.

I'll have to check them out, but I wasn't impressed with the song they played during the show.

(looking at the bottom 2 lines for each day, let's see...)
They're not going to change the world or anything, but Sleeper Agent will be a fun "straight-ahead rock" set for a mid-afternoon sort of thing. Dragonette will be fun live. And We Were Promised Jetpacks are pretty solid. Band of Skulls are already blowing up with the singles off their new album, so they probably don't count for this anymore.

Very upset that it took me 25 years to listen to James, but extremely thankful for Coachella bringing them into my life. Possibly my favorite festival discovery ever.

Not to mention that they already did a killer late afternoon set in 2010. This thread DEFINITELY doesn't apply to them.

Other Lives was great at Sasquatch last year, definitely see them. Laura Marling is an amazing artist, and normally I'd see her, but she's someone that needs a pretty quiet set, and I'm not sure she'll get it - it'll totally depend on the schedule. But Egypt '80 is gonna be one of the better sets of the weekend easily.

Some of my most memorable small types for prior years: **** Pong Bitches and Rock Steady Crew.

This year there are quite a few I think will be worth crawling out for: Dear Hunter, Other Lives, Childish Gambino, Grouplove, Jetpacks, Gary Clark, Dragonette, Augustines, Growlers, Metronomy

Utterly shameless Beirut ripoff. That's pretty embarrassing.

There seems to be a lack of quality control on the lower line bands this year. It's as if GV spent all their energy on the bigger tiers and left the tiny fonts to a drunken intern. It's a real shame, as there always seemed to be a lot of thought and care put into the booking of the up-and-comers.

I'm digging Keep Shelly in Athens.

They've only just begun performing live and so far the reviews haven't been all that favorable. However, the consensus is, with experience they will get better in the live setting.

I'm looking forward to seeing Other Lives opening for Radiohead's headlining shows.

I saw Laura Marling open a stage at Sasquatch '10 and she sounded great, granted there wasn't much sound bleed, even with the amount of people transiting through the area to get into the rest of the venue.
