Pure economics. Bring in the biggest fist-pumping house acts on earth along with a bunch of robot dinosaur sounds to guarantee a sellout, and then stack the non-EDM lineup and woo the rest of the music world.

I'm calling BS on the economics argument. That doesn't justify shitty acts from top to bottom or the near total omission of house/techno. A few clowns should be sufficient to placate the horde.

The unfortunate thing is that there is no real way to make a compelling comparison to how the across the board mainstream/laziness of the EDM bookings might translate to a hypothetically disappointing rock/indie band lineup. So for the people who have little knowledge about EDM or what the Sahara used to have, it's really easy to write this off and tell people to stop complaining or to consider that there are very great rock bands booked. It's not just that there are handfuls of the typical sort of Insomniac style rave headliners, is that there is little to no variation from either the electro-womp gnarly "dubstep" or the cheesy vocal/electro house that are essentially mimics of SHM.

I also heard Bassnectar was supposed to play.

The lineup is lacking in the dubstep/DnB/Bass music department compared to last year. They are either,

A) Having no Pure Filth Stage this year.

B) Announcing acts for it later / separately.

or

C) Making the dome into just another stage for random acts to play.

I am very disappointed with the Sahara tent this year :/ , I was expecting at least ONE tech-house Dj. Stefano Noferini , Popof, Pirupa, Victor Calderone, Mark Knight , UMEK, there's so many GOOD Djs that they couldve brought , I guess its the whole 2-weekends thing fault. Many of the crappy Djs that they booked are Vegas regulars , so I guess that worked for them . It suckssssss

Swedish House Mafia - 100% (YouTube their MSG and put it on mute if you have to, huge spectacle)

I get SHM and like Avicii and i guess Alesso but GV really had to drop the $(big $ too) to get Kaskade and Guetta? Hopefully we dont have a Justice and Dre conflict on sunday. Im still in shock over this Sahara lineup, I've only been to coachella a few years but I loved the fact that the electronic lineup was at worst 50%shit. This year its like they just said "hey fuck it lets book the standard socal insomniac crew for the money grab". Id seriosuly expect more variety from Nocturnal let alone coachella. Where are digitalism? Four tet? Holy Ghost? SMD?...the list goes on. Like someone posted earlier, some of the cheese shit is unavoidable but to go 100% cheese is pretty unforgivable.

I've been trying to stay positive about the lineup because I absolutely love the non EDM names. And last year I spent almost no time at all in the Sahara except 20 minutes of Shpongle and all of Sven Vath. That's strange cause and effect. Why would getting Skrillex also mean getting Royksopp or Underworld? Do you live in a world in which such scenarios actually exist?

Not cause and effect. What I was getting at was that I wouldn't have an issue with an act like Skrillex if there was a Underworld / Royksopp / Aphex Twin on the poster as well.

Don't be silly, there is alot of electronica on there.

It's about mainstream popularity. Sahara has been changing last few years because electronic dance music has been also. House and dupstep became very popular. DJ Mag turned Facebook for votes, Guetta became #1 over trance dj AVB, and other house/dubstep djs got ranked higher this year.

Coachella is not Electric Daisy Carnival, yet in the beginning it was semi-rave because they had a lot of EDM acts. Times have changed. Coachella became very popular and EDM became mainstream so my experience in Sahara last few years has been declining. Etienne de Crecy, Plastikman and Shpongle last few years were amazing. I'm not expecting that type of special electronica acts to continue. I'll remember them as treats as no other festivals could bring them like Coachella once did. Such acts like Daft Punk's pyramid show will always be fond memories of Sahara's past.

Yes, the poster is a joke.

The Sahara will probably be more packed this year than last year. It may not be better, but it's probably filled with more well known artists. That is why Goldenvoice did it.

Since Chemical Brothers, Leftfield and Trentemoller all ended on other stages I'd say the Sahara lineup was pretty awful last year as well (although I get that this was a reaction to the EDM acts in general.) Sasha and Green Velvet were the only good sets I saw in that tent, and the latter act got screwed on his time-slot. Last year was the death rattle.

You people. This is the worst Sahara lineup I have ever seen. Its almost like the whole thing was an after thought to the rest of the fest. It's completely cheesy and lacking in any originality. There are a handful of gems among the turds but those are few and far between. I wonder if anyone put any thought at all into the Sahara tent. Looks like they just grabbed as many of the mainstream/popular acts as they could regardless of sound/vibe.

Afrojack?
Chromeo?
The Presets?
Crystal Castles?
A-Track?
Laidback Luke?
Bloody Beetroots???
Paul Van Dyke?
Fedde Le Grand?

Generic. Mediocre.

Great news re: Bassnectar. I feared his addition on account of him apparently telling a Socal crowd some months ago to expect him "in the desert". I may be misremembering the exact phrasing, but distinctly recall some boardie posting about it at the time.
