Either a new venue or a new layout of the stages. Sound bleed was horrible at this previous one.

I like the corner stage with the train running by. Where else does that happen? Maybe I'm still a child at heart and like that kinda shit, but whatever. I say go back to two stages, and blast that shit like a true rave. Having 4 stages is nice and all but not if you can barely hear the stage your at, AND have sound bleed.

tickets are on sale a day early. $99 plus $12ish in fees and $4.50 for delivery. You get 2 separate tickets, so you should just buy now and if you don't like the lineup or only like 1 day you can dump the other one since the prices go up. Last year it didn't sell out til the day off, but the door price was like $75 or $80.

I didn't want to start a new thread, but since it's HARD related thought i'd throw this in here. Has Jack Beats ever played LIVE? I wanna go to the Wiltern show. Oliver and A-trak are a bonus, but mostly or Jack Beats. Is Flavorus the only site to grab tickets from? I'd rather not do Will Call.

Cool. I understood that it was his first US LIVE date, i didn't realize it's his first LIVE date ever, should be fun. Buying my ticket next Friday. Hopefully they don't up the price before then. The $30 floor/$25 balc for the first price level seems high to me.

It is really weird that it is listed as the "live debut performance" for the L.A. show, because there in another "live debut performance" in NYC a week earlier, also put on by Hard. I think they are trying to sell all of these upcoming shows as the first live performance in that specific part of the world. I'm very curious about what it will be though. A group that is promoting one of the shows in Europe said this: http://www.facebook.com/tuesdayclub.sheffield/posts/318457638192812 which makes it seem like it will just be a cool light set-up, but I would love it if somehow they were working actual instruments in there, similar to what Chase and Status did.
They also posted this:
"Hyped for the UK Revolution tour! New live production, new tracks.
28/02 – Tuesday Club, Sheffield
02/03 – Fabric, London
03/03 – Concorde 2, Brighton
16/03 – Mint Warehouse, Leeds
17/03 – Death Disco, Glasgow
Keep an eye out for our app that will let you upload pics to be used in the live show..."

So based on the upcoming HARD lineups can we pretty much count on
Boys Noize
Gessafelstein
Brodinksi
Knife Party
Jack Beats

Oliver
Any other lineup predictions? I'm thinking they'll make some announcements during Coachella, or if this thing sells out well in advance, they won't even need to print flyers like how Coachella has done the last 2 years.

I bet $100 Justice headlines one night. Especially with the whole #trustus thing they tweeted today and the first pic being Justice in front of the cross. And they did take a lot of Sahara acts from Coachella for last summer (Boys Noize, Ratatat, Duck Sauce, Skrillex, OFWGKTA). I hope they book NERD or Santigold. I miss when HARD used to book non-electronic acts. I'm surprised Gary doesn't more often considering he's trying to erase that rave notion off HARD

Why dont you tell the people who put on edc the same thing when 75% of the line up is the same every year? Nobody is going to care, theyll see the same artist again.

The lineup isn't going to be an exact copy of last year just like 2011 wasn't an exact copy of 2010. While there might be a couple of repeats, I would expect the lineup to be fairly different. Also you overestimate the similarities between EDCs. The only act I saw in 2010 and 2011 was Boys Noize.
What I am wondering is whether they will stick with four stages or go back to two like they had in 2010.

That was the second HARD Summer event they did and I was also there. They were trying to find a location to hold their events and unfortunately chose a not so great of a location. Luckily they've learned from their mistake and have moved it to the Los Angeles Historic Park. I have yet to see a line-up from them that I can truly say "Wow! This line-up sucks." Every year they are booking new acts and trying to bring artist onto the scene. Been going to HARD events since 2008 and haven't had an issue with their line-ups. Yes, HARD Summer was a flop due to it's location, but tell me if that wasn't one sick line-up?

The line up was definitely the shit, but that whole thing was just inexcusable for such a high production event with so many international artists. They were just being foolish and it's difficult to want to support a company that was being so terribly greedy and selfish. I'm pretty sure you, digitalstereo, have stopped supporting a company because of similar reasons at some point in your life. it's cool that they refunded tickets, but that was mandatory.... oh, pointing out that it was their second hard summer event kind of takes away from your argument since they had a number of events before it and the change of venue was NOT the reason for the outcome soft summer.

This campaign is doing an amazing job, so you clearly have no idea what "absurd" means.
How can it be doing an amazing job when they haven't shown us anything yet? Sending out an absurd number of emails and Twitter posts doesn't mean it is amazing. Are you talking about ticket sales? They have been selling tickets for this event for months and they still are in the "limited time" $109 price range. If they were doing an "amazing" job, those same $109 tickets would have been gone 2 months ago when they first went on sale.

The venue change was to accomidate more people; unfortunately it backed fired for them. The point of the post was about trusting them to provide a bad ass line up. Never been let down by them and I know this year won't be any different. LA Historic Park isn't a bad area to throw events. I know there will be no issue with the location, except for may be the enterance gate and parking... unless they manage to open several entry areas with out violating the fire evacuation standards.

The only thing that scares me about their push is if the company is in such dire shape they need the advance sales to fund current operations, and in 6 months, if they don't get funding, they are insolvent. I have no idea of Gary's investors or who stands by with $$ if this were the case, but I can't imagine these promotion companies are well run or flush with cash.

i'm fairly certain skrillex is going to be on the lineup so i doubt they will have any trouble selling out this show. with that said HARD did the same thing last year with 40 dollar tickets IIRC then they moved up to like 100 something

really that's the only problem with the venue/stage set up is the volume, which is a HUGE deal. What I found funny last year was that stage next to the DFA tent was easily the loudest stage, even louder than the main.

The venue is perfect. They just need to learn how to organize themselves better, instead of trying to be like the rest and have 4-6 stages; they could have 3 stages. Oh, the main gate could also use some work. One single entrance for the festival is just plain out dumb.

I give credit to HARD for their lineups, they book some of the best events hands down, they just have the whole socal electronic raver kid scene barreling into their gigs at a shitty venue (the one way traffic at the shrine? jesus.) and shitty churros.
I will not let that $6 shitty churro experience go either. If you can't have decent fair food at your gig, you're doing something wrong.
AND TO COACHELLA/EDC/ETC - WHERE DEM TURKEY LEGS?!
EDIT: Why I don't like the historic park is: The logistics are just absurd, its dark so you end up trampling through a bunch of plants and the layout for event just doesn't really add up. IF anything, throw all of your concessions in the middle where the space is awkward.
Don't close the beer garden at 8pm or whatever it was, tons of space last year unused by the main stage.
Move the mainstage sound booth back about 20 feet to give the main stage a main stage feel.
Adjust the outside line fencing to make a proper restroom area.
Lose a stage. 3 stages + the DFA tent, something went wrong. Skrillex is a great example last year. I hate his music, but his fanbase all had to cramp into a tiny corner next to more shitty churro stands and portopotties. Considering Skrillex will be main stage this year, those who enjoy wonderful adult contemporary EDM won't have to be shoved into a corner or hope James Murphy's tent will save our night.
Finally - do something about the line in. I felt like I was being checked into a concentration camp.

I don't think there is much Gary can do about the terrorist sector/concentration camp feel but I do agree with you on that. It was pretty lame.

He can hold it at a different venue.

drum and bass doesn't sell. Bootsy Collins is booked so that Gary can say "hey look, its not really a rave."
That has never stopped Insomniac....They can still put said DnB artist low on the bill.

My expectations have been lowered after all the talk about the shitty logistics. Still, the lineup and price was too good to turn down.

Have to agree.. Lineup = awesome, Venue = shithole. Although I don't really blame the venue as much as how HARD uses it. I could understand not using the dirt area like FYF did (that was a dust nightmare) but people having to stand in bushes and on a bridge to watch that 3rd stage Digitalism was on when it's real dark was not a great idea. That and the whole entrance / gate setup was a mess.
I really hope they fix the logistics this year and use more of the park so we can get some volume.
Wheres the beef?
04-25-2012, 03:47 PM
Look, those are all staples of a HARD event and they aren't going to change anytime soon. This shit has been happening with HARD since it's inception at the very first HARD NYE when they decided to have it on the fucking streets of Skid Row and where their headliner (Justice) played on a stage within what must have been a wrecking yard and half the crowd had to watch behind a chain link fence + barbed wire. This is what HARD does. It's who they are. If you think the lineup is so great, then you're just gonna have to tough it out or not go.

HARD: All about the music and shitty churros in a terrible venue
Oh man - Justice NYE was a good one though, the good ol' days when people just invaded the stage. That was fun.

Not trying to defend HARD, but we easily forget how HARD and Insomniac have had troubles with the city of LA. HARD for the cancellation of HARD Summer 2009 and EDC for people overdosing.
HARD had some bad rep given that year due to the failed event and a few other issues with the refunds. Not to mention the bad reputation they had that year with event goers and the media. I was there at HARD Summer 2009 and saw it all go down. The LA riot police showed up ready to kick some kandi kid/bro ass.
Insomniac bailed LA due to bad rep the media and LA physicians gave that event and law suits for corruption filed towards the company. They also left because they did not want to deal with all that and most likely losing the legal battles. I was also at the EDC event that year that 16 year old chic overdosed... hmm, I might be giving these events bad karma or some shit. haha!
Gary tries his best to cooperate with the city of Los Angeles to try and keep these types of events legal in the LA area. Hence the tight security and prevention of many items used to smuggle drugs.
I do have to agree with the food selection being pretty terrible last year but in 2010 it wasn't that bad. They had some great selection. Yes, I had one of those terrible churros and pretzels.
As far as the venue, it's a great area to be honest. You're right though, it does feels too cluttered with all the 4 stages and the set up could use some re-arranging.

Not EDC's fault some 16 year old took bunk pills. Cancellation of Hard Summer was definitely the promoters fault

I think it was a 14 year old....and it is EDCs fault for letting a 14 year old into the venue

15. The event was 16+ but they didn't check ID's at the gate. Her friends changed their stories a few times from "drank a spiked water bottle" to "we lost her and when we reunited she was out" to finally "she only took one pill." Sad that her family had no idea what was going on.

No need to debate but Insomniac was at fault to a certain extent for not enforcing their rules of no drugs and properly checking for ids and narcotics.
HARD was at fault for choosing a terrible venue but they didn't force people to start jumping from the top seats to the bottom and it was a 12 foot drop.
The main point of my post is the reasoning behind all the security and police presence at HARD events.

Why was 2009 canceled?
2009 was probably canceled because sasha rodriguez friends were jumping off the balcony to get to the floor.
btw, ihad a churro at the polo fields this weekend and it was crap. i even asked the girl for the freshest one. i dont think it was $6 but it wasnt worth whatever i paid.
the area around the park is where i live. we share a creative space and we know there are parts of downtown you just don't go to. namely east of the park about a mile or so. i think thats why security can be so intense there.
ive been to four coachellas, three edcs, maybe six other insomniac fests and pretty much every hardthe big ones since haunted 08.
anyone who didnt get a refund for mia or the show at the forum probably bought their ticket scond hand, because i got my cc refund in full right away. just saying. ymmv
i could give a shit about nero or magnetic man but the rest of the headliners are all must see. and bootsy is a headliner. i love coachella (i mean come on radiohead justice snoop gaslamp killer flying lotus and pulp) but the sahara was so weak this year. makes hard all the more worthwhile.
please hard get spicy pie. pizza is festival food.

This. Although I feel like the oldest person there, I'm only 24, I feel like I'm also having the most fun. Last year the venue didnt bother me at all. the security wouldnt bother me if the lines moved a little faster.
On another note, what can I expect from a chromeo dj set. Seen them live twice and am looking forward to see them throw it down in the disco tent. Also, is it a virtual gurantee that a-trak shows up during their set for atleast a song or two?

LAX is not in the area.
But, heyeric, the Kyoto Grand Hotel is really nice and around $120/night. Not sure what you budget is but, I think its a great mix of quality, price, and proximity.
finding a hotel along the red line could be a move too

Maybe it was because almost every set I saw was either in the DFA tent or the main stage but I didnt really notice a problem with the sound. While I agree Hard has some improvements to make, there is no reason people shouldn't buy tickets if you like the lineup. The venue was not as bad as people are saying and hopefully they make improvements, if not do better drugs and you wont notice. Also there will be an OWLSA stage(Skrillex Label) so there are only three "real" stages this year.
2nd to whoever asked about the Chromeo DJ set. Would love to know what to expect, they are so awesome live.

No way! Really? I stated cheap, not near by. I understand, but if money is an issue LAX is not that far away. A short drive onto the 101 exit towards downtown and you're there.
