okay in this thread I'm going to try to compile the list of Coachella acts that have listed their set times on their myspace (ignore the ones that are at 8, 12 and 1 for the most part) I'll Start with one on each day. I'll edit this post as we uncover more.

Hmmm unless they go Manu Chao at sunset, Rage and AIR to close the main.. I think that might be the ticket for that..... It solves all the problems regarding a bad crowd for AIR..

rage patton
03-17-2007, 07:31 PM
From what Ive seen on past schedules... theres usually atleast a 1 hour stright period on each stage where no one plays. Perhaps they will put like an hour and bit between Manu Chao and Rage? That would avoid alot of major heckling. If anyone boos Manu Chao...
MSTRKRFT at 10pm??? Would that put them onstage at the same time as Tiesto or RHCP!?!?!?! Guesses? Fuck! I dont wanna miss the Chili's for MSTRKRFT.... but I might have to.

Boourns
03-17-2007, 07:39 PM
That could be perfect, actually. Depending on conflicts, of course:
Manu Chao 7:00-8:10pm
Rage 8:40-10:20pm
Air 10:45-closing time

suprefan
03-17-2007, 07:48 PM
That sounds about right... Rage with an hour 40 is a good estimate considering there is an emphisis on more set time..

Fair to Midland on the main stage?
Mando Diao on the main stage?
I would MUCH rather see Rodrigo y Gabriela in a tent then on the outdoor stage.
Also, I would think Willie Nelson would play during the day. He doesnt seem to me like a nighttime performance.
P.S. I DO realize this is just speculation. I just find some of those acts/times strange.

Do headlining bands ever do encores at Coachella? Because if Rage doesnt do an encore, I bet you some Rage fans will stay and wait for an encore and when they see Rage, they will bicker and boo.
Notice how I say SOME Rage fans. Just like SOME Tool fans chanted Tool during Massive Attacks set.
But if Rage does do an encore, you can garuntee all the hardcore-only-there-to-see-Rage fans will all the leave the festival grounds as soon as the last note on Toms guitar stops ringing.

If MSTRKRFT is playing at 10 I think its safe to say at this point that there will be no Sahara headliner on Saturday and everyone will be funeled to the main stage for Tiesto. In fact, at thispoint, I think it's safe to say there will be no Sahara headliners period. Neither Paul van Dyke nor Faithless can fill that role. Jack called it, this is the year Goldenvoice throws in the towel on EDM.

If this were to be how things played out, I'd start the day out in Sahara (as I always do), check out Regina Spektor, dance to Girl Talk and Justice, catch all of Travis so that I have a good spot for Arcade Fire and have my mind blown, get a look at the end of LCD Soundsystem and beginning of MSTRKRFT, and finish the night with the Decemberists. Not a bad way to spend a Saturday! And for the record, The Crane Wife is the best album I've heard since Funeral.

I'd wander around until Girl Talk, then catch the first half of the Good, the Bad & the Queen, then half of the New Pornographers, then rush to the Mojave for PB&J, then run back to the Outdoor to catch Blonde Redhead, and force my way up close because I want to see Kazu, then Arcade Fire, then either grab dinner and stay for RHCP or run to the end of LCD and check out MSTRKRFT, depending on how tired/stoned I am, and then the Decemberists.

God, even when I do such biased speculation I end up missing acts I wanted to see like Travis, LCD Soundsystem, half of the New Pornographers, !!!, etc, but that just goes to show how many great bands are playing. Can't see them all.

Instead of making my own i used Boourns' and toyed around with it a bit, a lot of it i agreed with some i didn't. Like LCD and Gotan Project in the Sahara that's what really started things and then i had to move things around to make room for them. Gotan Project confuses me though I honestly don't know where to put them...the thing that gets me is how high they are on the poster. I tried to get Girl Talk out of the Sahara as well, but I couldn't find room for him anywhere else.

Girl Talk belongs in the Sahara. He just uses a laptop instead of turntables. Do you think MSTRKRFT will play during Tiesto? Since there's fewer dance tent acts than usual, I can't imagine two playing at the same time. Good speculation, though. I don't like the idea of having to choose between Blonde Redhead and PB&J, but then again, tragedy has happened before.

I think I recall someone saying that the Rapture said they were playing one of the tents. Plus the tricky thing about them is that I dont think you can put them on during the day because it would be too hot to dance. Here's a thought. What if they closed out the Sahara? They are opening for Daft Punk and would be on during Tiesto instead of having two techno acts going against eachother and you dont have to shut down the sahara early (which just seems wrong)

8:00-9:00 LCD Soundsystem
9:30-10:30 !!!

I just wanted to point out that I'm fairly certain this is how it will go down with these three bands because LCD Soundsystem's live band has Al Doyle of Hot Chip and used to have Tyler Pope of !!! in it. Plus it'll be one huge dance party

I want Willie Nelson to play at noon, so I can take a weed nap after his set and get ready for the night... I really want the Roots to not play during the day and not during RATM. I'm pretty sure that is my biggest worry.
Also, closing Coachella with anyone other than Rage would be stupid. Sorry, but really???? And Teisto closing Saturday over the Peppers????
No.

Tiesto is closing out the Mainstage saturday I'm going to put a link on the front of the thread next to his name just in case others don't believe me. Oh and I was thinking another reason why they might be having other artists close out the mainstage instead of the headliner is so it won't be so hard to get out of the venue and the parking lot. I'm sure many people will leave after RHCP and esp. Rage (if Air closes out the mainstage). So Air closing out the mainstage would accomplish a lot.

It's possible for dancey rock bands to play the Sahara, I figure, since there aren't as many clearly defined Sahara acts this year. I mean, The Prodigy played it, and they seem more like a moshing/meth act than ravey/X.

Hmm, is it possible there won't be a Sahara tent? We know that Stagecoach will be four stages...

I was actually looking at a ton of Rage concert footage. Every video I looked at of thiers, had them playing during the day time at a festival. What are the odds GV will put them on during the day? I still think they are gonna close the mainstage, or possibly play before Air. But does anyone actually think they would put Rage on during the day?

Let's just get THE PRODIGY to headline the tent on sunday

Personally, Id rather have The Prodigy headline the Saharah tent on Friday. Sunday is too packed already. And Saturday has too many good artists. But a big Hell Yes! for the Prodigy to be there!!!

12:00- Tilly...1:00- Evil 9...2:45- Jarvis (check out Noisettes on the way over)...3:45- a little Benassi for the wife...4:40- S.Y....5:40 listen to Nickel Creek in distance...6:30- JAMC...7:30...end of DJ Shadow, then Faithless...10:30- Bjork.

It will never be conflict-free. I imagine the point of the NME article was that it would be possible to see the big Sahara act AND then the headliner, for a change. Usually they play at the same time, and a couple times the Sahara act plays after.

I think I recall someone saying that the Rapture said they were playing one of the tents. Plus the tricky thing about them is that I dont think you can put them on during the day because it would be too hot to dance. Here's a thought. What if they closed out the Sahara? They are opening for Daft Punk and would be on during Tiesto instead of having two techno acts going against eachother and you dont have to shut down the sahara early (which just seems wrong)

that was me - I talked to Mattie when they played here. He said he thinks they are playing in one of the tents - but he was also quick to say nothing was certain at the time.

What about Infected Mushrooms supposed 11pm show time? Any chance that it wont happen? And they just randomly put 11pm? Or is it a conspiracy by GV telling bands to put up wrong set times on thier myspace, to confuse us?

yeah i have no idea where people are getting the placebo time, but like i said the IM time is on their official website. Even has "closing set!!!" next to it

Silversun Pickups on the main stage at 5? That's rather weird. So I guess that means Jarvis will be playing at night on the second stage, conflicting with the headliners? Damnit!
My guess for main stage now:
Silversun Pickups 5-5:50

JAMC 7:30-8:30
Interpol 9:00-10:00
Bjork 10:30-12:00

If Manu Chao is on at 7 and HM is at 8:30 then how the hell does AIR close out main? Lets say Rage does 90 mins, they finish at 11:30 or so. Unless HM is on the Outdoor Theatre which would have to be the case. So ideally it would go like this:

Manu Chao 7pm
Rage 8:30
Air - 10:30

Is it confirmed anywhere Manu Chao is starting at 7? I am not challenging you, Im just wondering. If he does start at 7, thats actually exactly what I envision the main stage to look like, except I see Rage getting a little more than an hour a half, but not two hours. I figure an hour and 45 mins. That just my guess though.
So Happy Mondays is playing at 8:30 on the assumed outdoor theatre, correct? Who is closing the outdoor then? Placebo? Crowded House?

I think you are on to something here. Willie Nelson should play the Outdoor Theatre now, because revolutionary or not, meaties will not like an old man with pig tails.

It's entirely possible that the Manu Chao time of 7pm is wrong. So here's the only realistic possibilities I can imagine:

Main stage (if that 7pm time is right):
7:00-8:10 Manu Chao
8:40-10:20 Rage
10:45-12:00 Air

or:
7:30-8:30 Air
9:00-10:00 Manu Chao
10:30-12:00 Rage

I really don't see the Happy Mondays playing the main stage.

So if the Silversun Pickups are playing the main stage at 5, maybe Jarvis will play the Outdoor Theatre at around 6pm. That's actually a more prime timeslot than later at night, because the conflicts are more severe later, and Jarvis needs a big crowd.

Well, either JAMC or Interpol will play at sunset, with the other playing afterwards. And then Bjork. If the Silversun Pickups do play at 5pm, I can't imagine the main stage being anything other than this:
Silversun Pickups 5-5:50
Sonic Youth 6:15-7:05
JAMC 7:30-8:30
Interpol 9-10:00
Bjork 10:30-12:00

If that's the case, then maybe a second stage lineup like this:
2:30-3:20 Tilly and the Wall
3:45-4:35 Nickel Creek
5:00-6:00 Of Montreal
6:30-7:30 Jarvis Cocker
8:00-9:00 Rufus Wainwright
9:30-10:30 Stephen Marley
11:00-12:00 Arctic Monkeys

So just as long as Jarvis doesn't conflict with the big three, I'll be fine. It would be preferable if he also didn't conflict with Sonic Youth, but, well, shit happens.

Pick up Pulp's Hits album. Different Class, His 'n' Hers, and This Is Hardcore are all really great. I think Jarvis is an okay album, but I mainly want to see him out of appreciation for Pulp, which is really amazing.

I don't think there are going to be many opportunities to see Jarvis Cocker.

Boourns

The Jarvis album is amazing! The focus is more on the words and less on the music, and while Pulp came out with some amazing sounds (This Is Hardcore), it's still good. If you give the album a chance, you can really hear what a great songwriter Jarvis still is. Still as amusingly bitter and cynical as ever. But it's not always the sound of loneliness turned up to ten, for tracks like "Black Magic" and "Don't Let Him Waste Your Time" reveal a real mastery over pop.

And yes, this is probably the only opportunity Southern California will have to see Jarvis for at least a decade. He hasn't played here since the days of Pulp, back in 1996. The brief US tour in 1998 was east coast only, and probably became a tour since they were going to be in the country anyway for the Tibetan Freedom Concert. And conversely, the only reason Jarvis will be playing a handful of cities this month is because he will already be in the country for Coachella (thank you goldenvoice!!!), so adding a few dates makes it more worth his time. Don't count on a second tour.

Yes, most of my appreciation, for Pulp at least, were from Jarvis Cocker's lyrics. He is hilarious and witty, and you can really connect to the things he talks about. Especially back in Pulp, and if you're like me, a guy just looking for a girl to have sex with, no hassles, no problems.

My favorite song from Jarvis is Big Julie. I think that song is AMAZING and I really hope that he plays it.

It is a shame that Jarvis doesn't come to America more often.

6:30PM Arctic Monkeys
7:45PM Jesus & MC
9:30PM Interpol
10:45PM Bjork

Side Stage
8:40PM Jarvis Cocker
9:50PM Sonic Youth
11PM El-P

Dance Tent
8:30PM Benny Benassi
9:45PM Faithless
10:30PM Evil Nine

Mojave Tent

7:15PM-8:05PM Rufus Wainwright
8:35PM Peeping Tom
9:40PM Circa Survive
11PM GoGol Bordello

God, this is a joke right? 40 minutes for Jarvis (because of the downtime between stages), 75 minutes for Bjork? Jarvis and Sonic Youth conflicting with JAMC and Interpol? Disgusting. And things are supposed to be more spread out, right? That's why there's only 30some bands playing that day instead of the usual 45-50. This is the blog that claims that ScarJo will be singing with JAMC, but they were right about the Glasshouse JAMC gig and they were right about Rage and Bjork headlining. Then again, they also said No Doubt was headlining.

Maybe this should get it's own topic because all of three people actually read this bloated thread, but here we go...
