I have begun to plan for 2 Coachella's and decided upon my midweek relaxation destination. Are any of you all making both and turning it into a very long vacation? Here are my current plans.

Weekend 1
April 12th-15th Camping at Coachella on site for the festival.

Midweek
April 16th-20th Driving to Las Vegas (aprox 4.5 hours) and staying at the El Cortez Hotel near Fremont Street for $50/night for the junior suite with king size bed, flat screen tv and mini bar.

Weekend 2
April 20th-23rd Coachella part deux in style @ La Quinta Resort & Club

What does everyone else plan on doing midweek? Anyone else going to Vegas?

As was discussed with you on fb, Vegas Monday/Tuesday after weekend 1 is a definite possibility, but I won't have anything finalized for months. Weekend 2 is a no go

My friends want to camp at Joshua Tree for 4 days in between Coachellas. I have made it clear I am not down for that. They have made it clear that they don't care what I think. I would go to Vegas except that my friend is driving his car from Salt Lake to Coachella and he is my only means of transportation. If there is a group going to Vegas I'd be down with pitching on gas and hotel for a ride there and back.

You're insane. I love you faxy but two coachellas is too much.

I traditionally stay in Vegas the Monday after Coachella to break up the drive home (and to postpone the comedown at least one more day).

For me to make it happen, I'd probably have to fly in/out Vegas. I usually rent a car and carpool with the same people out of LAX. So I need to figure out what everyone else is doing and then I can make my plans. But the more and more I think about it the Vegas thing is very appealing. As Stringer Bell would say I need to "get at my peoples"...

I'm going for the Coachella/Vegas Sandwich. Camping both weekends, with four nights in Vegas in between.

If you're into media production in any way, I highly recommend that you check out the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Exhibit

http://www.nabshow.com/2012/default.asp

happening that week - I go every year and it kicks ass - all the latest video and audio technology gets rolled out.

You can even get some decent housing deals by going through their site: http://event.expobook.com/index.aspx?eventid=213

I scored a sweet suite at the Signature MGM!

If anyone is interested in checking out the show, shoot me a message and I'll give you a code that will waive registration fees.

Thanks for the NAB housing link.

Booked 3 rooms for 4 nights at the Venetian saving $300 a night per room.

Was seriously stressing about hotels.

You are my hero!

Not that i'm aware of.

Don't have to pay deposit for a few months either as I booked 3 rooms.

The sign up is real easy, you can cancel if you need to. You get given a login and stuff to manage your booking. The rates adjust automatically if they go down.

I'm registering for attendance at the NAB just in case, but its free to do so.

Weekend 2 is only on for me if the lineup is strong enough for a repeat. Tempted to give Route 66 a shot after weekend 1.

Yeah - I've booked rooms through their housing site in previous years and it's very easy with no catches. I think registering for the exhibits is a good idea, just in case, and it is free.

You must have stayed their prior to 2006. They had a major remodel then and then again they remodeled in 2009. Stop giving bad advice. In fact the Cabana suites are probably the best bang for your buck in all of Vegas. I'm likely going to upgrade to one.

Not doing double but I'd love to meet up with other Coachella Vets and newbies for some pre-funking in Sin City.

CactusKev - I had a look at registering for NAB and the only option I could find would cost me $150.

Any ideas? Or should I just wing it?

Coming from the UK with a heap of people so don't want to be homeless for 4 days!

Use the code: EM01

And you should be able to register for free.

Seriously, you all should consider this place. Old school vibe, completely remodeled and some of the best cheap gambling in all of vegas. People love this place for a reason. I've upgraded to a suite as well (only $50/night btw for the mid week). I can't wait.

You've got all of California at your disposal for a week and you're going to spend 4 nights in post-mafia, post-shift-to-family-friendly, bro-central Las Vegas?

Come on, be more creative than that.

Looking at the Mon/Tue room rates at most places, I think a lot of people aren't being creative (because room rates seem unusually high for a Monday). But us bros gotta find a place to rage on in between bro-chella weekends. Now who's gonna go in on a Cabana with me at the Hard Rock pool ; p?

This seems kinda neato. How far off the beaten path is this integral part of my post-coachella experience?

Nope, that's not the Vegas i'm staying in at all. I'll be near Fremont St. The place where people specifically go to avoid the "bros". The place where they never bothered attempting "family friendly". Get your shit correct, son.

I also live in Arizona and have been to all parts of California on mulitple occasions so i'm not sure what i'll be missing but i'm going to guess it will still be there during my mulitiple visits in the coming months.

THIS IS SO GOOD!

I did it this summer for a friends birthday. If you're in a group, I hope you have a private stay! It's a really nice property, the people who run it are fucking awesome.

Integratron is probably about an hour or less from Coachella, really beautiful property, and the energy there is amazing. Play some acoustic instruments with friends (didgeridoos!!!), charades on the ministage at night. Have a smoke and nap sesh in the hammock village. Grill some food and use the bubble maker machine! They have misters too! A great alternative to Sin City; and you can always gamble in California ===> PECHANGA!

Sweet!

For any Vegas people - Justice is playing at the Cosmopolitan on the 19th - that will be a cool scene to make.

I've been wanting to do this for a while. I think it would be a great post Coachella recovery method. Tony Bourdain and Josh Homme went and seemed to really enjoy it. This is a great episode of No Reservations, but if you want to skip to the integratron part it's about 8 minutes in...

Hey fax man I'm going to Vegas for the second week, thanks for the Cortez tip it sounds all right for less cash than most strip hotels !

You're welcome. I finally stayed in one of those rooms a month ago. They were quite nice. The Cabanas are a seperate boutique hotel across the street. I actually loved that part of Vegas. This was in the East Fremont district which is like another world compared to vegas but I loved the hell out of it and i'm really looking forward to the return in April.

I spent an entire night in bars that didn't have a single slot machine or any gambling in site. Also, the Mob Museum opened up today which should be an awesome thing to see. I plan on not even touching the real Vegas strip when I am there in April.

I went to Instert Coin(s) which is a video game bar. The bar itself is constantly changing colors like a Simon game. They have PS3's and flat screen tv's all around the bar which are free to play if you give them your ID. They also have booths with bottle service for more vintage systems. I think you just tell them you wan a Super Nintendo and they bring one over with a bunch of cartriges and then you just pay for your drinks. Loved loved loved this place. They have plenty of specialty drinks here.

Next I hit up the Griffin which was right aross the street. A very dungeon looking place but very laid back and cool. Two fire pits and a lot of stone and wood. It's just so cozy with tons of good beers on tap as well. Highly recommend this place.

Finally I hit up the Downtown cocktail loung which is a mixology bar.

This website is really the only resource you need to spend a few days in this area and not get bored. Like I said, no gambling at any of the places I mentioned and it's only a block or two off of the Fremont Experience. It's a great escape.

I live in Vegas, so if any festivities arise before Weekend 1, or after Weekend 1 I'll be down to party.
