While that is a just simile, I think Skrillex should replace Afrojack in that quote... unless you were basing this on genre of electronic music.

While that is a just simile, I think Skrillex should replace Afrojack in that quote... unless you were basing this on genre of electronic music.

In certain ways, I was referring to genre. But Skrillex has a lasting impact and his popularity is not really fading. Afrojack, on the other hand, had a huge hit single (Take Over Control) and did the beat for another mainstream single (Give Me Everything), and Avicii's popularity is more leaning towards that of Afrojack's (Levels used in that new Flo Rida song).

Skrillex is just...Skrillex.

Skrillex a definite maybe for this year. If not then possibly Deadmau5 & Skrillex 2013. Deadmau5 could be a "mainstage closer" Skrillex close the Sahara.

I like him too, I think he has some really good songs and he's pretty good live. I think some of the hate against him is less than warranted.

Current standings as far as likes on facebook go:

Deadmau5: 4,332,020
Skrillex: 2,210,693

keep in mind Skrillex has only been working on those for a little over a year. Skrillex is appealing to a whole new audience outside of edm, as well as in it. Skrillex tracks are more radio friendly than deadmau5, and will probably be rotated on KROQ sooner than we think (I think his track with Korn is already getting play). Deadmau5 has plateaued. Booking bad DJ's is one thing. Booking a number of bad DJ's that play essentially the same brand of crap is mystifying. Coachella is not EDC (last time I checked). With a relatively limited number of DJ sets on offer, there shouln't be reason to have conversations about "most overplayed track".

Fans of bad DJ's: does this redundancy annoy you?

In a testament to their commanding new reach, D.J.’s like Kaskade can earn $200,000 or more for a single night, according to handlers and public records. “In the late ’90s and early 2000s, there was an initial explosion of E.D.M. for a quick second,” said Joel Zimmerman, who created William Morris Endeavor’s electronic-music division in 2008 and works with artists like Kaskade, Deadmau5 and Afrojack. “The thing that really flipped the script was social media. this is simultaneously the best and worst idea i've ever had, but they should really just throw a huge EDM act out on the main to close every night e.g.: guetta, kaskade, afrojack, deadmau5, tiesto, avicii... there's really more acts than you think that could make it work.

whether you like it or not these guys are playing to crowds of tens of thousands of people at festivals all over the world, they can handle the coachella stage.

all the old fucks who hang out at the mainstage all day anyway already bitch about barely being able to take a whole day at the fest, might as well just go home at 12 (or 11 on sunday).

As for the whole needing him to take the masses away from Underworld thing...

I gotta be honest, I don't know that it's necessary. I'm still shaking my head at how the crowd emptied out when they played at Hard Haunted Mansion last year. it is inevitable that we end up with at least a couple electro house dj's so i hope one of them is lazy rich

This. I've seen him twice, not really a huge fan of that intense electro-house stuff but he makes it good.

90% of the people at hard didn't know what edm was before '07

I mean, that's fair from everything I've gathered... was even going to say something about getting that it was Hard and all... but still... it's fucking Underworld.

Names on the poster drive ticket sales, not hypothetical timeslots and stage placements. A bunch of this crap will be on the poster come January/February. 16 yr old kandi kids will be there, en masse, irrespective of whether it winds up on the mainstage.

The Sahara acts up against Tiesto in 2007 and 2010? The Rapture and Die Antwoord / 2ManyDJ's.

Not bad, but not all that great either.

Yeah the stage and time slot doesn't matter at all. I fully believe, however, that if Goldenvoice decided to make Coachella into EDC warm up by needlessly booking SHM, Guetta, and Tiesto that this will mean a bunch of underaged kids will flock to Coachella just for the fact that these guys normally headline 18+ raves

That decision was made some time ago. See recent Sahara lineups.

Though the crowds for Orbital/Plastikman weren't massive and the crowd for Leftfield was borderline embarrasing, I think the turnout for Underworld would be quite good. Not Chem Bros good, but sufficient to fill the Mojave.

I don't know why the fact that the kids, who were infants when Underworld were making the groundbreaking EDM music, aren't going to show up in droves to see them is a big deal to all of you. Over half of these kids aren't going to ever be seriously interested in EDM as a genre, they are just young and partying and listening to whatever is big and popular.

AND MOST IMPORTANTLY IT GIVES ALL OF US AN EXCUSE TO CHANNEL THE INNER RODNEY DANGERFIELD IN ALL OF US AND SAY, "NO RESPECT, NO RESPECT!" ALL WEEKEND SO STOP COMPLAINING.

God I'm trying to forget about how dead the crowd was for Leftfield... but fuck it... we were up front and center and still had space to jump around.

The thing of it is... they haven't stopped making incredible music. So you'd think they'd still be attracting new fans.

On the flipside, going back to Leftfield, it makes more sense there. Since they hadn't actually put anything new out in over a decade.

It's as if you jerks don't even respect Rodney Dangerfield and the blessing he bestowed on all of us to use a catchphrase people we are directing it toward won't even understand.

I really couldn't care less about which "cheesedick DJ's are going to infect the Sahara". I'm just hoping for 2-3 really interesting EDM acts. GV has been great on that front as of late. Crowd size isn't much of a concern either. The more room to dance, the better. I do sometimes wonder if a reeeeally small crowd may have a negative affect on the performance.

I'll be drinking punch in the corner and readjusting my bolo tie. Punch!? Remember when punch was a thing?

i thought the tent filled in fairly well eventually for them. although i was up front so once a few layers of people came in i couldn't really tell.

still though, AFRO-LEFT.

still though, AFRO-LEFT.
i didn't get to go to coachella this year and had no idea who leftfield was at the time. after watching endless hours of video during/after the festival the only act i was more upset about missing was trentemoller. the video for afro-left blew me the fuck away. need to find a way to see them.

If it wasn't for this board I wouldn't even know who Underworld is. I am forever grateful and love them. But come on you really expect some 23 year olds (let alone some 18 year olds) to know Underworld

Im 23 and through this board i have been hearing about requests for underworld since 2008,it was not until HArd 2010 that i saw them.what a great experience that was! However before seeing them there was that rumor of a special guest playing inside and i figured id wait to find out if it was worth it or not skipping on underworld simply becuz i had heard born slippy and their older stuff and did not know if there live show would be for me. when they opened with downpipe i lost it! i knew it was def for me. i think young kids these days dont care enough they just want wats easy and available, its even harder if u are a crossover group cuz america just doesnt show much love
