so radiohead is finally come back to arizona! this deserves its own thread.

http://radiohead.com/tourdates/

thursday, march 15th, 2012. jobing.com arena. presale tickets onsale through W.A.S.T.E. 11/9 (http://www.waste.uk.com/Members/MemberIndex.html), ticketmaster 11/12 10am arizona time (http://www.ticketmaster.com/event/19004764D3A534B8?artistid=763468&majorcatid=10001&minorcatid=60). AHHHHHH!

pre-show meet-up will be at 4pm at the yardhouse (http://www.yardhouse.com/AZ/glendale-restaurant/) at westgate (http://www.westgatecitycenter.com/).

4pm at yardhouse. reservation is under my name: ivy. we will be in the two booths in the back with space to mingle. if at all possible, please get there at 4pm so that we can hold down the tables for those who absolutely cannot get there until later. the restaurant prefers most of the party to be there to hold the tables after 4:15pm.

if you are later than 4:15, there is no guarantee there will be a seat free, but we can all find space to mingle i'm sure :)

and the restaurant wouldn't let me make a later reservation. they have an insane beer selection on tap and are pretty laid back, so we opted not to switch restaurants. not to mention that restaurants in this area tend to veer away from reservations on big event nights. also the lawn is not available for tailgating during this show.

pre-show meet-up list:

Ultra cheap! They are $34.15 or $54.15.

$54.15 is ultra cheap top price ticket these days for an arena show.

chairmenmeow47
11-07-2011, 01:08 PM
wikipedia says 19,000.

i would guess it won't sell out right away, but i can see it selling out. though, i could see the fact that this is the last show listed & no LA dates yet as possibly making this sell out more quickly.

captncrzy
11-08-2011, 06:43 AM
While I always support the noms at La Perla, I have a suspicion that those with GA floor are gonna want to be close by so they can get in and get a spot early. Like Yardhouse or that Irish bar close.

chairmenmeow47
11-08-2011, 06:51 AM
you know my opinions on irish food ;)

i really don't see myself standing in line outside the show for hours, so i think we'll be fine. i also get out of work earlier than most people, so i can easily do la perla.

captncrzy
11-08-2011, 06:56 AM
That's true. You can always just find everyone else later.

I do love La Perla. I also love Haus Murphys down there.

i have not been to haus murphys. la perla is my all-time favourite. i feel obligated to take tommy lol. maybe i can get them to do a mariachi version of national anthem. though yardhouse wouldn't be bad. or even native.

also, i'm kinda second-guessing the standing GA thing. i'm not all that into KOL and may just want seats. i need to think about this.

"Won't sell out for a while" = it may take a week. The consideration people will need to make is how close they want to get. Best seats will be gone after this weekend, that's for sure. Venue is large enough & Arizona crowds are notoriously slow going in selling places out, so it won't be an instant sell out like it would be in California or New York.

jen's yardhouse idea for drinks is good as they're usually not too hard to get a table and i'm sure they take reservations. i didn't realize there was one at westgate (walking distance from venue).

westgate restaurants and shops (http://www.westgatecitycenter.com/list-alphabetically/)

there's also parkwest a few miles away off northern and the 101

http://www.shopparkwest.com/directory

further north near arrowhead mall (bell road and the 101) there is pretty much anything you could think of

and ivy's preference, la perla in downtown glendale (other restaurants in the area too, but who cares :p)

If they let us gate on the lawn, that will be hilarious.

That Westgate property where the venue sits is super duper commercialized--almost exclusively chain places. Yardhouse is the best one, IMO, on the property. Other choices in the immediate vicinity:

Camarones Mexican--overpriced mexican food
Gordon Biersch
Hells Half Acre -- never been
Jimmy Buffett Margaritaville (food=bad)
Kabuki--overpriced Japanese food
Mama Ginas Pizza--pizza
McFaddens -- an attempt at an Irish bar
Saddle Ranch Steakhouse -- never been. The have a mechanical bull.
Shout -- dueling piano bar. Probably dumb.
Big Fat Greek Restaurant --shitty fake greek food

There's a Native New Yorker over by Cabellas across the street.

About a mile away, on 99th Ave/Northern:

BJ's restaurant/brew house -- actually pretty decent bar food
Sandbar (fake beach bar)
Grimaldi's pizza-upscale overpriced pizza

Over at Arrowhead Mall (a few more miles north) there are a shitload of places. Titled Kilt (bar with whores in schoolgirl outfits) comes to mind.

In downtown Glendale, there is the awesome family-owned La Perla Cafe--oldschool mexican food since the 40's. There is also Haus Murphys--traditional German food and german beers served in boots (glass boots, not cowboy boots).

Over on our end (south of the venue) there are a couple of places but none worth mentioning. Native New Yorker again, Islands, Red Robin. Nothing super exciting.

By all means, I am down for the Southwest plan. Didn't realize it would be that cheap.

On a seperate concern though, with the tickets for floor being paperless if I end up not being able to make this is there any way of cancelling my ticket if I get that ticketmaster insurance? I have read the qualifications for that insurance, and transportation is one of the acceptable issues. Would my address being in California and the show in Arizona be a good enough reason?

Yeah lets remember this show it 4 months out. You can get crazy airline deals. From burbank or lax.

Is it confirmed all of the floor is paperless through ticketmaster? Yeah I guess get the insurance. Ive heard horror stories about that not actually working at all and them just giving people the run around to make more money. But I guess you could bring it up with your bank at that point.

Question: Will I get a ticketstub going to will-call for GA floor through waste? I'm weird and care deeply about a hard ticket,

The insurance just seems unnecessary coverage for a $50 ticket. You are going to pay $6-7 for an insurance policy which you get $50 back if you miss the concert.
To claim you are going to have to put in the effort to support your claim and file it. I am sure they have lots of hidden disclosures about 'acts of Gods' etc.

Most of the things could be covered with other insurance policies e.g. home insurance, credit card insurance etc

With paperless you can give someone your card and they can swipe the card at the venue and go-they didn't check ID's at the paperless shows I have been to. Obviously don't give the card to just anyone.

How the hell do you guys keep encountering this whole business with getting your credit cards declined? I'm not trying to Supre you or anything, but who do you bank with that you're running into these problems? I think I had to tell my bank once that I was going out of the country & that there would be a lot of international purchases in a one-week time frame, and that was more than 2 years ago. Haven't updated them ever since and I never have these issues, and I've bought tickets on international websites at least 3 times this year alone. Are you maybe just not setting up a profile on those ticketing sites or not updating your credit card information ahead of when you plan to purchase? Just seems like there may be something you could do to remove this (unnecessary) aggravation from your lives.

You know what's worse is that I got a call asking to verify the charges I tried making during the presale, even though they were declined because I needed to have them approve international charges. Way to rub it in, small credit union.

Oh well, tomorrow morning!

Thats why you now know to call beforehand to make sure it doesnt get declined. Trust me, if it was ticketmaster, you wouldnt get 3 chances to try and pay for something.

I'm with a new bank now, so I didn't know how they would react to WASTE. And your point about Ticketmaster is moot since Ticketmaster is not an international purchase and would not be declined by my bank.

In any case, I realize that I was very lucky that WASTE was so patient with my purchase, lucky that my bank answered my call pretty quickly, lucky that I was able to get away with it all at work, and lucky that I happened to look at the Radiohead thread at the right time. I tried texting a couple people to alert them as well, but I don't think they ended up buying tickets.

Went for 1 GA floor right at 9, spent 8 mins in the queue, didn't get it. Trying again; if I can't get a second it won't be the end of the world but damn that's annoying.

I tried 20 times for a GA single and didn't get one :( Luckily the LN app waited about 15 seconds and then bestowed one on me.
