not as a top line...as a second liner he'd be great

There's no way he would be anything but a headliner though.

bmack86
03-15-2007, 08:04 PM
He'd be an amazing headliner. Solo or with Genesis. I could seriously see the Lamb Lies Down on Broadway tour starting at Coachella next year. Holy shit, just thinking about that makes me happy.

I wonder what would have happened to Genesis had he stayed on. Mike Rutherford, Phil Collins, and that other guy seemed to be on the same page except for Gabriel. Probably a good thing he got out.

Anyway, I like some of his songs, but I don't think he's THAT great.

Jerpar, your homework is to dl the following:

Peter Gabriel I (Car)
Peter Gabriel II (Scratch)
Peter Gabriel III (Melt)
Peter Gabriel IV (Security)
So
Passion

To start. You will experience the genius. And you have heard some of his songs I'm sure:

Sledgehammer
Solsbury Hill
In Your Eyes
Shock The Monkey
etc.

Edit:
And yes, it is hard to argue with Biko. Phenomenal song.

One of the greatest performances ever was watching PG perform on the Amnesty International Human Rights Now Tour. When he did Biko, the entire crowd raised their fists as one, singing at the end. It was inspiring. Made me want to be a musician.

I'd narrow that down and say start with III and IV and work your way out from there. III contains both "Games Without Frontiers" and "Biko" which are the two best songs he's done.

Also, jaspar, I'd bet a million dollars and a tuna fish sandwich that you've heard "Solsbury Hill" (which is on I).

If you really wanted to narrow it down, III and So have a bunch of his best songs. IV has some good songs too. Don't start with II. They are all good records, but to really get started, go III and So.

When he was with Genesis, part of the elaborate costume thing was in order to alleviate some of his stage fright. I think that carried over a bit to his solo career. His shows are evidently really cool multimedia extravaganzas, but I wasn't into him when he last toured so I can't confirm it firsthand.

Excuse me boys, but did I just imagine the album "Us"? Is it just my imagination that it, in objective reality, has THE best song Peter Gabriel has ever written called "Blood of Eden"? Did I dream that? One of the many reasons that song rules: Sinead O'Connor sings backing vocals with chill-creating expertise.

Us is actually a better version of So. No matter what people say.

games without frontiers and solsbury hill are both stellar. as is "i have the touch". also bonus points if you can name the 80's movie the latter was used in. under rated in many respects. ok then.

Solsbury Hill shows up in the trailer for The Shining but I don't think it is in the actual movie.

PG did the soundtrack to Birdy but I don't Solsbury Hill is there.

Solsbury Hill shows up in Vanilla Sky but that was from 2001, not the 80s.

also uses "we do what we're told" from So. also IMDB claims bowie wanted 100K for "heroes" so they used kate bush for the closing credits instead. funny.

Solsbury Hill is in every movie trailer ever. It was int eh Ice Age soundtrack, but didn't actually appear in the movie. In the movie, they substituted a very similar song composed by Elfman or someone, and it was the world Walking in the title. This exact thing seems to happen in a lot of movies.

It was in the fake trailer for the Shining, not the real Kubrick approved trailer.

My only copy of III is in German. It rules so fucking hard.

Excellent, we can do that later.

I completely fail at knowing where my CDs are. The three tracks you don't have are not on a "I don't know where those are" list. I know the two later ones should be easy to get (say, Yabs) but the non-English one might be more difficult. Ehh, I'm sure someone will have it.

I don't wanna spoil the surprise though so I'm staying mum as to further identification.
