http://unlvtickets.com/eventInfo/spe/39/national-finals-rodeo/

Well it is National Finals Rodeo week from Dec 1st to 10th. That should mean lots of country acts like Miranda Lambert, Toby Keith to choose from :)

Given its NFR week, that means hotels tend to get pricier so it is advisable to make reservations fairly early to avoid spiking prices.

Death Cab For Cutie at The Boulevard tonight. There is also Adele at the Ballroom. This means parking at the Cosmopolitan will be a clusterfuck to top Coachella 10. As a result parking will be as follows:

Guest Parking
To meet the needs of our guests who will be attending Adele at The Chelsea and Death Cab For Cutie at The Boulevard Pool on Saturday, 8/20, The Cosmopolitan will offer overflow parking. From Harmon and Polaris, guests will head North on Polaris until they reach a dead end, where the lot is located. Complimentary shuttle service will go to and from the overflow lot for 5pm – 5am on Saturday 8/20.

Alternatively you might want to use parking at City Center, Planet Hollywood or Bellagio which are in good walking distance.

Give me a break I wouldn't even think of looking at a vegas show in the last couple months. The funny thing is the first/last time I saw the Stooges was at Vegoose.I hope to find Iggy and ask if it's ever going be possible for a show with "The Idiot" in it's entirely.

For some reason my post is not in order anymore. It was in response to blueblazer who has also since edited but anyway he just posted a link that's in the first post of th thread is all. No biggie.

I don't think I will be out for the Pumpkins show. At the moment I will be there for two shows. Roger Cyne & the Peacemakers at House of Blues (Labor Day Weekend) and Jay-Z / Kanye Watch the Throne at MGM (December).

If you didn't catch Walk the Moon at Cosmo yet, definitely check them out tonight at midnight at Book & Stage. I was hugely surprised and really enjoyed their set. I'm considering going again tonight.

Plus, I got to talk with their drummer for a bit last night and asked about a Coachella appearance. When I asked him, he kind of smirked and said, "It's a possibility, but we don't know yet." I'm guessing from the smirk/possibility comment, they're going to be there. I'm guessing these guys will be pretty huge by the time Coachella comes around.

You can save $10 on Iggy and the Stooges at the Joint

enter TMIGGY at the special offers box at the Ticketmaster link

http://www.ticketmaster.com/event/2C0046AA764046E5?dma_id=

Still $21 in fee's with Ticketfast, con fee's etc. I think it is still cheaper to buy at the box office on the day-it would come to about $45 cash against $49.55 on Ticketmaster with $10 off code.

Iggy Pop and the Stooges is now canceled!

http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2011/sep/02/iggy-pop-cancels-sept-10-show-las-vegas-after-foot/

Dig out your Get Well cards, Stooges fans.

Iggy & The Stooges’ scheduled Sept. 10 Las Vegas date at the Joint has been postponed after the 64-year-old punk godfather suffered “multiple fractures” in his left foot when he tripped over a mic stand during a show in Romania on Aug. 27, according to a press release from concert promoter AEG Live.

“After several days of rest at his Cayman Islands home, his need for medical attention became apparent,” the release explains. “[His doctor] has confirmed a pair of fractures in the metatarsal of Pop’s left foot and instructed the singer to take six-to-eight-week hiatus from performing.”

Tickets for the canceled gig will be honored at the makeup show, although a new date won’t be announced until Iggy “receives medical clearance,” according to the release. Refunds are also being offered at points of purchase.

The Stooges, widely considered to be among punk rock’s key early forebears, are best known for first three albums The Stooges (1969), Fun House (1970) and Raw Power (1973). The band’s current lineup features Iggy, guitarist James Williamson, bassist Mike Watt and drummer Scott Asheton.

M life Players Club
Come see Shaggy perform his hits at Mandalay Bay Beach! Friday, September 9 at 9:00PM. General Admission $36.05

I saw Roger Clyne (The Refreshments) play Fizzy Fuzzy Big & Buzzy on Saturday night at the HOB. That was a lot of fun. I didn't stick around for too much of the 2nd set.

The B-52's and Human League at Mandalay was much more fun than I expected. Human League was pretty awful in my opinion. The B-52's seem to be pretty much timeless. I'm not a big fan of theirs but I had a lot of found and thought they sounded fantastic. Rome was probably my favortie song of the night but even the stuff I wasn't familiar with was a party. The whole night and location had an end of summer vibe to it. I would see more shows at the Mandalay Beach if they got someone I was interested in. Nice sound and good atmosphere.

It was nice to see Tears For Fears attract a strong crowd last night in Las Vegas. Once again Tears For Fears put on a really good show. They really do deserve a slot at Coachella because they never seem to phone it in and play consistently high standard crowd pleasing sets.

It sounds great, but whenever I've been to these kinds of events they make the drinks hard to get. Usually you get 1-2 drinks then get fed up waiting in line for 30mins for each drink and end up at the cash bars.

Ardentbiscuit

I don't know, some I have been to have been run terribly and I end waiting forever and others are amazing.

Tiesto at the Hardrock has an open bar from 9 to midnight and I ended up getting a ton of drinks in that time.

I think all depends on who's running it.

Ticketmaster offers the easiest options, but vegas.com has the more tourist friendly show listings.

Other than that las vegas city life gives the more local concerts listings. Most the casino venues are on Ticketmaster now.

I wouldn't bank on that. Even if you did there is still quite a walk from the Cosmopolitan to Hard Rock. I would guess 20-30 minutes with the amount of people.
Getting a taxi might be tough given the Strip will be closed down, as a result the traffic will congest on Paradise (where the Hard Rock is).

Yeah it is part of the Sports Illustrated Music Festival

http://www.billboard.biz/bbbiz/industry/indies/sports-illustrated-to-highlight-indie-bands-1006082352.story

Debuting Feb. 14, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit 2012 will feature four pages of editorial and 17 model spotlight videos at SI.com showcasing 17 emerging artists across rock, indie and electronic genres. The music program will be accompanied by a two-day music festival, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Beauties & Beats, to be held at Las Vegas' Cosmopolitan Hotel and sponsored by Lexus. The event will be the first music festival hosted at the Cosmopolitan, which debuted in late 2010.

MJ Day, senior editor of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit, said music has historically played a big role in the magazine's production - from soundtracking photo shoots to energizing staffers at the end of an 18-hour work day. But when discussion turned to making music a featured part of the issue itself and its auxiliary platforms, Day contacted her friend Brent Dicrescenzo, music editor of Time Out Chicago, to help the staff select which 17 bands would be featured.

"We've dabbled in music a bit in the past with previous issues," Day says, "but now with all four digital platforms we thought it would be such a great way to integrate and basically enhance the Swimsuit experience."

Ten of the 17 selected artists will participate in the Vegas festival: Delta Spirit, Elan Atias & White Elephant, J. Roddy Walston & The Business, Little Hurricane, Maluca, Nick Waterhouse, Vonnegutt, Selebrities, White Denim and headliners The Black Lips. Seven other artists will be featured editorially: Bosco Delrey, DJ A-Trak, Hanni El Khatib, Kito & Reija Lee, New Look, Rhye, Toro Y Moi and The newno2. Each artist will be paired with a different model in the magazine and online, with new or previously unreleased tracks from each respective artist.

Not overly familiar with Aly & Fila, they sound very heavily influenced by European DJ's. I think you would be looking at laying out $50-60 at Rain just to get in and then club drink prices.

I am not in to the Strip nightclub scene, you are more likely to find me downtown at the Huntridge or Bunkhouse. I'll just warn you both of those sound like they'll be full of the usual Strip crowd, they tend to be tourist traps designed to empty your wallet more than music venues.

The Huntridge did have some amazing shows. I was at the last show held there in 04. I saw NIN there in '94. But Beck and Smashing Pumpkins also played there.

I kinda have mixed feelings about the place because it had a lot of faults that are conveniently overlooked with nostalgia.

It rocked my world! Srsly. The openers were great too. Some issues with sound check pushed the Jicks back to a 12:30 (roughly) start. The temperature dropped that night and Stephen had to put on a Jicks shirt because it was chilly. He also thanked the crowd for not going to see Die Antwoord. The show ended at around 2 a.m.

Interesting. I wasn't having the best of times because I was running up a temperature so left halfway through. There was some grumbling from quite a few folks I know about the set list, sound and Malkmus' banter-which turned me off what I heard. The sound levels were due to the city ordinance but I can't say I noticed. I thought the show was okay, but my enjoyment was stifled.

Hopefully it doesn't involve them dueling with Neon Reverb because it is no good for both festivals, which both suffered due to the events clashing. I do know Neon Reverb were close to signing of several acts, but Pastel came in and offered more money. I know it upset a lot of local promoters and venues, so they have to build some bridges.
Neon Reverb hopefully sorts out the licensing issues that affected the Saturday show which was moved from Beauty Bar to Junkyard. Don't think Neon Reverb can be all-ages. The alcohol separation didn't work, more people were 'locked in' at the bar, whilst the stage was deserted.

That was a bummer that both events happened the same weekend but I went to Pastel both days. Even though it was sparse crowds at times, I still had fun.

The most crowed was towards end Saturday evening.

Pluses: Great line up, good set up, good location.

Minuses: Cancellations without notice, not following posted set times, not checking wristbands so lots of people who shouldn't have been got in.

Minuses: not checking wristbands so lots of people who shouldn't have been got in.

Just so you know, the Pastel Project decided on both days to start letting people in for free. It wasn't security not enforcing, they were told to let anyone who wanted to come in.

Yeah, Neon reverb was pretty much the same. On the Saturday at Neon Reverb there was a good crowd for Kid Meets Cougar, after they finished most left because Facebook was buzzing that Pastel was letting anyone for free.

Hopefully they revamp the Pastel Project, go for less bands and land a bigger headliner that will get the crowds.

The only show I have seen at M was inside. The Cult show is in the M Resort Outdoor Entertainment Piazza, which is really the pool area. Nice area, but it will be just a standard outdoor temp stage set up. Should be okay, strange choice of booking for them.

Non concert stuff that people enjoy:

Watching the Bellagio fountains and seeing the gardens that change constantly in the casino.
The coolness of the Cosmopolitan, namely the P3 art studio, EA Sports Lounge, Vesper bar, the book and stage (saw Marina and the diamonds, Foster the people, Mayor Hawthorne and more for free here) with tons of free bands (that cost money to see in mostly every other city), etc.
The Mob Museum (not to be confused with the Mob Experience that is a little cheesy)
The Pinball Hall of Fame - Pinball Museum (best playable museum ever)
Chuck Jones Experience (great for the kids)
The Artisan Hotel (styled as if Nightmare Before Christmas and the Disneyland's Haunted Mansion had a hotel)
Lots of other stuff, you just have say what you are into.
The best Vegas show I've been to in a while is Absinthe, it's Cirque du Soliel with lots of dirty comedy. It's great.

Stuff to avoid:

Carrot top
Anybody passing out flyers on the strip
Free Limo to a strip club
Anything at the Hooter's Casino

Best nude show goes to Crazy Horse Paris at the MGM.

My wife laments the days during High School when Circus Circus used to have 99 cents all-you-can-eat pancakes. Apparently quite the hang out then. But yeah a few years ago I had to attend a conference at Circus Circus, they handed out free buffet coupons. I went in and circled the food stations for a good five minutes and walked out. Headed to the Steak House there. Pretty much always voted as one of the best by locals with some justification I might add.

If you have to eat a buffet, then Wicked Spoon (Cosmo) and M Resort are two of the best. More expensive, but well worth it for the quality. Wicked Spoon brunch with bloody marys, mimosas or champagne is worth the extra few bucks.

The Sugar Factory in Paris is 24 hours and you can get desserts and meals all night. They have great desserts. Never tried the food.

If you want cheap and lots of food the Peppermill is the way to go. And that's 24 hours too.

We tried that drifting through groupon. It was fun but kind of shady and I wish you got more time based on how long the wait was.

What about a nice-ish place to sit down and have a quality dinner, that's open late? Good food, but not too much $$$, since alcohol is already going to be a ton of the bill I'm sure. Looking to make a reservation somewhere for around 11 tomorrow.

Ellis Island on Koval next to the Super 8 hotel & one street behind Planet Hollywood. It's a micro brewery with tall brews for $2. The barbecue is good and the patio has a nice view of the backside of The Strip. The restaurant inside has great food also and is open 24hrs. Always killer food and cheap drink there. It also has the best karaoke lounge in Vegas supposedly.

Pretty much every restaurant in Cosmo is good Comme Ca (Modern French same one as on Melrose) and Blue Ribbon Sushi is amazing, you may not believe it but the ox tail fried rice and ox tail soup are amazing.

There is also a place called Oscar's Steak house on Fremont. Not sure how good it is but it's owned by the previous Vegas mayor Oscar Goodman (former Mob lawyer nicknamed the mouth piece) and the gimmick is that they have a good looking woman sit down and talk with you.

Oscars is fairly good. However be warned, if busy or late, that sometimes you are directed in to an overflow area shared with Simpactio (Italian Restaurant). They gave us just the Simpactio menu, although we found out later that we could have ordered from Oscars menu. Simpactio was simply terrible, one of only two times I have sent back a dish. This one was over the Chicken Parmigiani which came to me still clucking, they then compounded that by just cooking the chicken and returning it to me. Call me fussy, but when there is raw chicken on the plate, I want a new plate and the dish remade. The appetizer was also distinctly ordinary and we left.
Maybe it was just a bad night for them, but I've heard a few other people complain over the often long waits and fairly ordinary food.

Le Thai just down the road is open very late and always busy. I eat there a lot on weekends.

Yes those of those are amazing, I think they rightfully duel it out for the best Thai. Le Thai just has a great location next to Beauty Bar.

Now if we are talking Japanese or Chinese then Anime Ramen, Ramen Sora and Ichiza. So many great places in Chinatown, some make me feel like I am back in Hong Kong.

So many great Chinese places... Dim Sum... FUCK. excited to get back to Vegas for eats!

Komol and Lotus have to be one of the weirdest duos in Vegas restaurants... Literally 50 feet from one another. Lotus is always packed and Komol is always near empty, but you can arguably have a better/bigger meal at Komol just without some of the specialty plates Lotus offers. Like their bacon-wrapped prawns which are fucking insane. It sounds crazy as well but Komol has the BEST orange chicken I've ever had. That with some Pad Thai, Tom Ka, and a few Singhas... perfect dinner.

How'd you manage to get four free tickets? I'll have to keep an eye out for giveaways and the like.

We know someone at Station Casino's. They offered to put our names on the list, no idea what seats we get.

If you play/stay they mailed out an email shot with various offers 2-4-1 etc. Also you might want to watch Stubhub because prices are down to $22 each.

4 free tickets to The Beach Boys at Red Rock on Sunday. Apparently they have over 2000 tickets left, so expect Station Casinos to be pushing these.

What's the capacity...2,500?

Red Rock has consistently had the worste bookings of any place in Vegas ever. The last two years especially.

You have to give them credit for booking Tears For Fears last year. I think a lot of bands/promoters are reluctant to go out there and outdoor summer shows in Vegas tend not to do very well.

Hi, looking for some help from a local with a little more insight than me.

I'm coming from LA for my gf's birthday and she wants to go to Calvin Harris at XS. I'm reading the disclaimer on the ticket page (http://wantickets.com/Events/106150/Calvin-Harris-at-XS-Las-Vegas/) and I'm a little concerned about the whole "arrive by 10:30pm/reserve the right to decline entry due to capacity issues." I'm guessing it will be way more expensive at the door (if it isn't sold out by then).

Basically, I want to know if there is any other way to guarantee admission (without buying a bottle/table) OR what are the chances I won't get in if I arrive after 10:30 and how long would my wait be? What time do you think CH would hit the stage? appreciate the help

Well it is a obviously a nightclub and part of their mission is to get you in the door and drink. But the only way to guarantee admission is to buy in advance. CH will probably hit the stage after midnight, so getting you in by 10:30pm means you are probably dropping some $$$ on drinks.
Can't give an answer on how long you would wait if you arrive without tickets, you might walk in quite fast or be stood waiting for a couple of hours. It is a weekend and probably a hot show, so I wouldn't be surprised if you ended up waiting at least a hour after 10pm.

To be honest, if you are going to XS at Encore, you shouldn't be worried about dropping $80 on tickets to get in because that is a couple of rounds of drinks there. If the cost is a concern then you are better off not going there.

Full disclosure of bias, I know the band very well, but A Silent Film put on another great show last night. One of those bands that aren't intimidated by playing a venue that is sparsely populated, they play the same way night after night.

New album "Sand & Snow" is out on June 5. Check it out.

I think you are spot on! The Beach Boys was just okay. Lots of hits for sure but it was virtually the same as watching them without Brian Wilson. I assume the Van Halen finale was 'Jump'?

Wrong! That's the Pointer Sisters.

I guess that I'm too young to listen to Van Halen and old enough to know that the Beach Boys blow.

Yes the finale was Jump. You dont have to be old to appreciate one of the greatest guitarists on the planet.

1984 is great but there is a bootleg called Atomic Punks if you can find it. I dont care for Van Haggar all that much. If they hadnt been touring with Diamond Dave I wouldnt have gone. So glad I did tho the show was worth every penny.

I'm still trying to get over my bitterness about them canceling a few years ago :-( But I'll be there too..Now Fischerspooner just needs to come back through (and actually fucking play) and all will be well in cancellation land.
