*regarding the Jesus & Mary Chain show

This should be good.

This should be AMAZING! Excited!

In the event that anyone going to the Jesus & Mary Chain is into Goth, Industrial, Dark 80's and/or Death Rock, The Copa Room is having an afterparty at the resident goth night (Scarlet). Doors at 10, no cover and there's usually a side "play" room that myself and another friend run ;-)

Address: 7700 S. Las Vegas Blvd., Las Vegas, NV 89123

*Regarding the Thursday night Cosmo line up..

Rumors this is the initial price and they might do some sort of promotion later. Those shows will be good for 'pay at the door', I can't stomach paying $10 extra to Ticketmaster.

I think SpyOnVegas is going to partner up/sponsor a decent amount of these Thurs. Cosmo shows..they're already doing tomorrows show for free (as long as ya sign up, print out ticket). I'm just glad they're letting you swim finally!

This made me sad since I'm going to see Scissor Sisters the same night...but I did miss most of their set in 2011 to see Arcade Fire, so I'm ridiculously excited!

Yes the smaller pools will be open.

BTW this concert is part of the Blvd Social Club series, so Spy On Vegas will probably be offering up free tickets.

Really? Lots and lots of people do that. Mark goes to Vegas by himself to go to shows all the time.

ANYWAY I am coming to Vegas the weekend of August 10th and just saw that Bloc Party and Santigold are playing the Blvd Pool, that seems like it could be a lot of fun. I pulled up 4 tickets no problem, so it seems many are still available.

I'd rather go to a show by myself than rely on flaky friends or someone who complains throughout a show. Also given some tickets, like Neil Young are coming out at $300 a piece, not everyone is willing to drop that amount.

Besides if you travel a lot for business/pleasure, then going by yourself isn't unusual.

I didn't realize Mr. Fuzz was a 12 year old bully. This is a forum for music nerds, OF COURSE people go to shows by themselves. Besides, you pull way better seats if you buy singles. Beck wasn't doing a full-on tour so he's a no-brainer to travel for.

It is correct that SpyonVegas offers up free tickets, however depending on which employee you deal with you may also need an Identity Membership (free casino reward card thing). I personally have never needed to show mine, but I had friends that were denied entry when they didn't have one. *shrugs* Again, this is specific to the Thursday shows..it doesn't work this way for the bigger concerts.

All of the Thursday Social Club shows have access to all 3 of the Boulevard pools..I've gone to the last 4 shows and swam each time in each of the pools :-)

For the regular concerts, they either drain the larger pool to use as standing room or leave it filled but not allow you to swim in it.

(That info is more to people who haven't been to the Cosmo, not to snidely correct you, Tigermilkboy :cat )

To make it clear on the Boulevard Concert series.

For the 'free' shows on Thurs, it will always say 'Blvd Social Club Presents'. Shows like Foster The People and Janes Addiction aren't part of the series. Whether they offer 'free' tickets to The Hives depends on how many they sell.

BTW for those who don't know, 'Identity' Club membership is available on the ground floor of the Cosmo. It is a free to sign up players card. Usually you get some good promo's mailed to you.

Doesn't surprise me the rules are all over the place at Blvd Pool. In April I left a show to go in and out, someone stamped by hand and when I came back the security looked at me like I was crazy 'no in and outs are allowed'. Things like that are often frustrating about the Cosmo.

It has nothing to do with Vegas. Gotye has been charging those prices elsewhere-LA Greek Theater is $72 with fee's.

It is the fee's which are outrageous on this one. $18 per ticket!

Also, The Melvins are playing the same venue (Las Vegas Country Saloon) October 23rd. The only negative with the NYE show is that the Strip is closed off and the traffic switches over to Paradise. Consequently it can take an age to get in the Hard Rock, as for getting out the parking, I would stay in the casino for a couple of hours.

If you're not staying in an HRH suite that night then you're doing it wrong. If I go to this we'll get a room for two nights, eat at Nobu, Pink Taco and the steak house, probably get a tatt and go to the spa/gym, like a boss.

Not sure I'd do that if I still lived there, but if anyone is coming in to town for these shows on NYE then I'd stay at the Hard Rock and get a suite. They run from about $600 for a 2 night stay, but if you stay on the Strip you are gonna have a bummer of a time on NYE waiting for cabs/shuttles or walking.
You can walk off the property and head over the road to Hofbrauhaus or cheap liqor at St Tropez. A bunch of other good eats fairly close by like Capriotti's, Origin India, Johnny Rockets etc.

In reality, there is no reason to leave the Hard Rock. Why travel off-site for second rate ammenities when the Hard Rock offers the very best of everything? The only places that I'd suggest venturing off to are Club Paradise and/or maybe the Double Down, if someone like Red Kross happens to be playing there. Otherwise, live it up like a boss at the HR. It truely is all-inclusive.

Ah yes, they do a good slice of pie there-I assume it is good, but since it was always eaten after many drinks I am not certain. The Hard Rock needs a pop up pizza joint like Cosmo.

The Gobbler isn't that from Farm Basket? The Gobbler, Super Gobbler and Super Clucker. The food is as awful as it sounds, but always fun to order. I'd go thru the drive-thru 8 times just to order a Stupid Fucker. The days just flew by!

Dude, Farm Basket was/is amazing and it sure beat the hell out of KFC. Best fries on the planet! What about the Cluck e' tos, best rolled tacos in town. I'm rarely on Charelston Blvd., but when I am, I stop by Farm Basket. Their rolls are the bomb too!

I agree, especially after what happened with Bloc Party. Why couldn't it have been moved inside to the Chelsea? Because of a convention they had there? Smaller capacity inside? It just sucked to have to walk out of there unfulfilled.

The Cosmo should have been prepared considering the likelihood of rain this evening.

My buddy is a pilot and the weather services were reporting heavy storms in the Las Vegas area from 4pm Weds thru Thursday. He went to the show last night and he was very surprised that the show was going on outdoors given it had been stormy in the Valley.

He said the Cosmo said they would be refunding ticketholders on request.

I've worked gigs at the Chelsea before. Its a major undertaking to get everything set up in there although its about 30-40 yards away from the pool it was most likely not enough time to tear everything down and then reset it. A stage for them wouldve taken 4-6 hours alone to build. You all shouldve come to the Cee Lo Green Xmas special taping I worked last night instead. It was thouroughly entertaining.

Jane's canccelled but both nights were held. I went for Joy Formidable & stayed for most of the Naked & Famous. There was a large glamour photo of Dave Navarro hanging on the wall entrance to the womens restroom. A crowd was gathered and people were taking pictures of themselves giving Dave's the finger. Joy Formidable was stunningly good live.

I guess I didn't investigate it very well, I just assumed since Jane's Addiction cancelled the day was off so I skipped it.

As for SXSW, it's always been that expensive, most people don't even buy badges, they just go to the free parties with bands.

I don't know if any of that will be going down in Vegas like Austin.

Anyone else really sad and disappointed at Cosmo's apparent end of booking their free shows for the Book and Stage? I would be willing to pay a cover if necessary. They were one of the few places in town booking great mid-tier indie, blues, jazz, afrobeat, etc. artists. I miss their shows.

They stopped because it was costing them a shitload of money and they were taking so little at the bar and losing a shitload of money throughout the casino. I guess a bunch of hipsters clutching bottles of water doesn't pay off.

I know I saw several bands on weekday nights where there were 30 people in there and maybe 20 watching the band. I am talking bands like Electric Six, Young The Giant, Best Coast etc.

To be honest it is a good thing they stopped because they were killing local venues like Bunkhouse, Beauty Bar, Double Down etc. My buddy at the Bunkhouse was having major issues getting people to pay covers of $5-10 because people were saying I can see this band for free. The Cosmo was effectively killing local venues and that wasn't a good thing. Free shows love them, but not at the cost of shutting down small, local venues.

That's too bad! I saw so many people there including Foster the People, Marina and the Diamonds, Vintage Trouble and many more!!!

I think one of the funniest nights was the Marina and the Diamonds night. The bartender was talking so much trash about Marina, about how she was such a bitch to them etc. And the best line was, "And she thinks she's PJ Harvey, I got news for her, she's not even close!"

Also Brad Garrett showed up that night and this drunk guy kept pestering him and saying over and over again, "You are not as tall as I thought you would be sir." And Brad's response was "Great kid." and he kept trying to get away from the guy but that space is so small. Finally he just had to sit in the corner with his friends to get away from that guy.

New festival slated for downtown Las Vegas

Not sure exactly what this is but here is a blurb I read: "Their idea is to present top acts, artists and culinary outlets in venues across downtown at a "really affordable" rate. The fest is a year away, so it's too early to know which musicians will be available on tour. "Headliners will be arena-size acts," says Allen Scott, booking vice president at Another Planet Entertainment."

APE certainly have the experience. Not sure they can book headliners anywhere Downtown and make money. There just aren't any venues that could hold more than 1,000 people besides Cashman Fields. Having it within Fremont is a possibility, but would require a lot of logistics. Within the Arts District is tough because of policing, parking and residential restrictions.

I think that I'm going to try and score a Black Keys ticket at the door with a crisp 20 dollar bill - I will pay no more! The venue is too big for them, especially pulling back to back shows. Scalpers couldn't even give away tickets to the Arcade Fire, hopefully they have the same problem...

I believe both nights aren't sold out just the 2 day passes.

But I think the face value for the GA is $140 so I don't know if $20 will do it.

According to them it's almost completely sold out but who knows, that could just be a call to action.

Mr. Fuzz
12-30-2012, 01:59 PM
Well, $20 might sound outrageous compared to the $140 ticket, but $140 is absolutely ridiculous! I'm going to roll down there and try. Was at the Killers last night and beers were $10 a piece - stupid!

Mr. Fuzz
12-31-2012, 07:56 AM
Yo, i scored 3 tickets for 90 bucks last night - 30 bucks a ticket! I had to hustle a little bit, but we were able to work it out. Ticket price is a ridiculous $120 plus fees (I think). Anyways, they're helluv good. Definitely one of the hardest working bands out there. We went to the far side and we were able to walk all the way down to the very front pit and secure a spot, about 6th from the rail, without pushing. You can totally bring in a flask, just watch for the lame ass security that cruise through the pit.

Oh yeah, wish I would've seen more of the Divine Fits cause I like their new song, but we were in and out of the venue to slam beers at the truck.

Ardentbiscuit
01-03-2013, 10:14 AM
I went too, it was a fun show. I saw the entire set of the Divine Fits and I really liked them.

I had a bunch of the free champagne they were giving out after midnight.

There was some guy in a suit talking to security who kept saying, "Happy New you all you assholes."

Why YES! I will also be heading out there. This monday the killers are playing a private show for some company i think its $100 bux tho if your not press. During the week tho appearances dont seem to be so hot this year. Wale,Ludacris all at various night clubs probably others but not worth mentioning.

As far as Djs go a few good ones are playing if you like dubstep..You got Rusko at surrender and Nero over at XS. Other djs are La riots on thurs..and Dash Berlin if that is your thing. They also just announced at marquee ZEDD with rick ross haha wtf..i just might have to check this one out!

Now all of the big companies will be having after parties as well and your badge is a good way in. Some you have to RSVP for but its already to late. Check out the Gibson Tent.. In past years they have had various rock artists grace the stage for a free private intimate show. Also with free booze. One year i saw Peter Frampton! it was great!

Thank you for the response and notes of advice! I'm driving down with friends on Wednesday, so the Monday Killers show is a no go for me. I didn't see any Wale or Luda shows in my research. Any more on those? I've never seen Luda live, but that could be fun. I liked Wale a lot in his mixtape days, but he's a good performer. Not a Rick Ross fan. I saw Rusko and Nero shows. I'm not SUPER into dub step, but love a good DJ or electronic artist that can perform a good show. As a hip hop/turntablist (DJ Shadow, Z-Trip, Mix Master Mike) kinda fan, which might I enjoy more? I know this is pretty subjective, and neither are hip hop artists. Also saw Steve Aoki listed on Wednesday, which interests my friends, but not I! I'll take a Pretty Lights or a Bassnectar, but pass on Skrillex etc. Catch my drift?

*Edit Found the Luda show info. Looks like he's just hosting a club event.

As far as CES itself, I'm still without an actual pass! I know I know. I'm hustling and keeping fingers crossed, but will be with others with CES passes. I know several companies are hosting their own parties and events outside of actual CES itself because its so expensive to show there. While I'm hoping and praying a CES pass comes up, I know there will be alternative options to be had. Thanks again!

Weird, but awesome breakthrough on the CES front. I somehow am now guest badged from Samsung and I can pick them up at the Samsung badge room on the 2nd floor of the convention center. As its my first CES, my big question is are these the CES passes Im looking for that will grant me access to the expo floor/hall(s) or something Samsung specific-only with my regular CES badge, which I do not have.

It is a strange one because they still have dates elsewhere, officially the Cosmopolitan is saying they are rearranging the date. I suspect they have ended up doing something in LA like Kimmel or KROQ radio.

Do you work for Cosmo? They need to book the Specials next month because they're playing a half dozen Cali dates. I might fly up to San Fran for the Saturday show.

Also, what's up with them booking Iggy and the Stooges and Jack White...they need to do it.

No, but I know the booking agents at The Pearl and House Of Blues.

The Specials I expected to show in Vegas. I don't know why it didn't happen but the agents were trying to make it happen. Probably broke down on money. The Cosmo is essentially aggressively booking artists by paying much more than the other venues can.

Same here. Their last L.A. show was Aug 11 -- one that was scheduled for Oct 9 @ L.A. Sports Arena has been canceled and their S.D. Oct 10 date has been postponed, so this is the closest date to the west coast for this leg of the tour, looks like.

On another note - when the hell is Vegas going to book some of the good bands from Coachella. I'm digging QOTSA and Ty Segall, but where the hell is an Outkast and Arcade Fire date? Has anyone ever been to a concert at the Beauty Bar in Vegas? I'm thinking about checking out Ty Segall on Thursday and I'm curious to hear other people's past experiences with that place. Seems pretty small.

I am returning to Vegas for Punk Rock Bowling! Any of the locals ever gone to it? Will most likely be hitting some of the after shows as well.

I went last year and it was pretty fun. The main stage is about the size of the outdoor stage and the sound and lights are pretty close to. The line to get in sucked because they only have 4 check stations and it took about 30 minutes each day to get in. They have some good merch stations with some pretty cheap band shirts. The food and water stations are about the same as Coachella. I was surprised on how many bathrooms they have for its size.

Good feedback, thanks! It's a little weird to have a no ins-an-outs outdoor fest in the middle of Vegas, but i;m really excited.

Sorry man, I just saw this. I went to the show last night - they rip!

Bands play on the patio out back, which is maybe 8,000 sf (80' x 80'). The space is walled in on three sides by the downtown buildings and the other side is open to the back alley, separated by a chain-link fence. There are these really low power lines that run overhead to a power pole in the alley - which adds a lot of character to the space. It looks like they built a new stage out there which elevates the band about 4'. The stage cant be more than 20' wide by 12' deep.

So has anyone gone to the Brooklyn Bowl since their grand opening?

I saw the Roots thanks to some free tickets from Vegas Seven. The venue is pretty great from what I've seen with decent sound, a sizable main floor area, multiple bars, and good food.

Thanks, I was most worried about sound issues since bowling takes place next to the stage. I will be there this weekend and excited to check out this venue.

It's nice that you can also buy tickets at their box office without fees.

I went last year and it was fucking awesome! Wish I could go again this year but money is not in the right place. The only suggestion I have is definitley do some aftershows but stay away from punk rock karaoke. In my mind it was going to be a karaoke bar where everyone was wasted singing terribly, instead it was a band and you went up on stage, but if you wanted to sing it was about a hour wait. Also pbr tall cans there were 10 bucks it was a bit ridiculous. My favorite part last year though was playing black jack with the lead singer from subhumans.

Were you able to get any of the club shows. Since I'm a bowler, I'll get to see Naked Raygun and Manic Hispanic. But I'll be on the lookout for tickets for All, Reverend Horton Heat, the Secret show, or Stalag 13.

I ended up not even trying. i may look out for people selling tickets at the door, btu i wanted to play it by ear. I will likely be seeing The Last on Monday night through, as my friend's band the all female Descendents cover band Des and the Cendents are opening up.

Thanks, man. Didn't make it Ty Segall but it's good to know that's a nice venue.

I did make it the Brooklyn Bowl on Saturday night for Cake. I came away very impressed with the venue. The sound was top notch on the floor and the whole layout was very well designed. There seemed to about 5-6 different bars around the stage area so getting a drink was quick and easy, but very expensive. I saw a lot of audience members sipping on little airline bottles of liquor and if I were to go again that's the route I'd go. Cake was fucking awesome, wasn't too familiar with their music other than their hits but came away very impressed with their catalogue. When the show was over we headed outside and there was another stage set up in the promenade area of the Quad. Delta Spirit was playing a free show and we caught the last half of their set, really nice surprise. Then headed back in to the Brooklyn Bowl for Karl Denson's Tiny Universe. That show was also free, and they wound up being the highlight of the evening. I'm not sure if all of the free music was just to promote the Quad and the Brooklyn Bowl opening, but after losing my ass on March Madness it was nice to finish the weekend on a high note, and one that was relatively cheap. I'll be back.
