View Full Version : Goldenvoice can eff themselves and the ticketmaster they rode in on

I started trying to get Portishead tickets right at 10am today. I haven't gotten even the remotest sense that tickets might be available and have entered about 50 catchpas (or whatever they are called). It is driving me mad.

Either scalpers are yet again gaming the system, or ticketmaster really has its head up its ass and hasn't released the tickets. I find it impossible that it sold out instantly, esp the Shrine Expo center.

I hate you ticketmaster. Goldenvoice why do you hurt me so by working with dem assholes?

Did you try getting tickets via the two presales (Band AND Goldenvoice)? The Goldenvoice presale didn't even sell out. Today what was sold was what was left. It's not Goldenvoice's fault or Ticketmaster's.

For the sake of discussion - it'd be nice if they kept more tickets in reserve for the main announced sales. These insta-sellouts for the non-presales are a bit vexing

Not hard to sell 4000 tickets for a band that has only performed twice in this city in the last 15 years....

I don't have time for all these pre-sale games. I hear something is on sale, I check in when they say it's on sale.

Thank you shermanoaksyo, for being the only one to understand.

I think we hook brothas and sistas enough by letting people know about the presales. The 1st presale was the day it was announced and tickets were available for almost two days. Thursday's had tickets all day. Sorry you didn't get any bro.

Although, you could always grab an ATP ticket and see them in NJ. Probably cheaper than anything on stubhub.

I'm actually quite a big fan of Portishead's studio albums, and Jarvis Cocker is probably one of my favorite lyricists, so nice try. I just didn't really enjoy their live show all that much, sorry. :2c

So there are less than 50 tickets still on sale on SH and about 50 have sold. So a total of 100 out of 4000 tickets were 'scalped'. The problem is dozy fucks not acting when there were loads of time to buy tickets.
Scalpers and Stubhub in this case are your friend because you couldn't be arsed to get tickets earlier.

I guess my only point is, if the actual sale date is not really the sale date because everything sells out before that date, then why even bother saying that's the sale date? If it's just to misdirect suckers with other things going on in their lives like me, well then that's just disingenuous. I accept that I wasn't with it enough to find out about the various pre-sales, but the whole game is just retarded. Like captncrzy's child.

I got there late so I missed No Age. It didn't seem too crowded to me. I mean, it wasn't Modest Mouse crowded.

marooko

I agree that the pre-sale gets out of hand. They should have a highly limited number of available tickets. I've had this happen to me with other shows. I also don't appreciate the fact that someone can buy 6-8 tickets at one time. Get your looser friends to get their credit together and buy their own with their own card. BS!

Sorry you didn't get any.

The wife considered buying more. I would have pushed to sell to a board member at face. Maybe I should have let her.

This is truth in the vast majority of cases. Before GV started mandating 3 day tickets, I got one for Sunday for less than face value.

Keep your hopes up and show up that night with cash in hand.

It was a large, but managable crowd; I think something like twice that number showed up for Modest Mouse last year. No Age was meet with a lot of indifference from the crowd. I enjoy No Age live, but you do miss out on some of their pop sensibility that comes out more clearly on record, and I guess in some ways its too bad that a lot of people who were exposed to them for the first time will now dismiss them without having heard their albums. The Tribune ran a terrible review (http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/entertainment/52194581-81/twilight-concert-crowd-explosions.html.csp) by their clueless critic that included this gem:

I had doubts that a band with no singing would be a captivating experience, but the band converted disbelievers, although the four didn’t show much stage presence.

R. Kelly Back at Home After Throat Surgery

By JAMES C. MCKINLEY JR.

R. Kelly, the rhythm and blues singer, was hospitalized briefly this week and underwent surgery to drain an abcess from one of his tonsils, his spokesman said. It is unclear when the 44-year-old Grammy award winning singer, known for his seductive vocals and lascivious lyrics, would be well enough to perform again. His appearance at a festival in Jamaica this weekend would likely be cancelled, the spokesman, Allan Mayer, said.

On Tuesday morning, Mr. Kelly went to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, where he resides, complaining of an extremely sore throat. Doctors operated that afternoon and he was sent home the following day, where he has been recuperating. Two weeks ago, Mr. Kelly finished a tour in Europe and the United States to promote his new album, “Love Letter” (Jive). Kelly won a Grammy in 1997 for his gospel-tinged “I Believe I Can Fly.”
